What previous attendees had to say about LTM: “Attending LTM institute was a huge game changer in our life. All the topics covered were

incredibly helpful, educational and motivational. Most of all, it was wonderful to meet and talk to other families who were in the same situation as us. There is no other place where you can receive so much information (on how to support children with hearing loss) in one place and in one week. It helped us to focus our energies on our son and armed us with the tools we needed to be effective

advocates for him in his journey.” —2013 Parent Alumni

“Attending LTM was such a great learning experience! Our son had just been implanted and turned 12 months old when we attended in 2011. We had gathered some knowledge about CI's

prior to LTM, but after attending we were amazed at how confident we felt about going forward. LTM truly lays out a path for you and your child to succeed post surgery. Specifically we loved the

individual therapy that was provided, MIRAH (Making It Real At Home), and connections we were able to make with other parents.” —2011 Parent Alumni

These wins ultimately resulted in insurance companies changing their making bilateral cochlear implantation available to most medically qualified individuals. Amy and the Advocacy Program then focused on improving the special education services for children with hearing loss. LTHF created a free internet-based resource center to explain key concepts of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to families. Amy continues to support special education advocacy work by serving families pro bono and by teaching at Listen to Me! Summer Institute, PPCI, and other organizations.

Our FounderJennifer Jordan McCall President, Founder, and Chair of the Board

“Like all parents, when my first child was born I wanted her to have the happiest life possible. I was devastated when she couldn't learn to talk. Once I accepted the fact that Caroline couldn't learn to talk without medical help, it still took me almost 12 months to obtain a correct diagnosis and to get her the help she needed.

By this time, Caroline was already two and a half years old.

In search of a diagnosis (this was 1991) we saw psychologists, neurologists, cardiologists and oncologists. As it turned out, we found the help we needed from an otologist, an audiologist and a speech pathologist, as well as through group and individual speech therapy sessions.

During the critical formative years of her childhood, Caroline could not hear or learn to talk because she did not yet have hearing aids or a cochlear implant. This put her behind her chronological peers. Not just in terms of speech and language acquisition, but also in terms of her substantive learning, which is dependent on acquisition of language.

While Caroline eventually made substantial strides in closing the learning gap between her and her age group and while she went on to earn a university degree her struggle to perfect her language skills will always be a challenge.

Once I had finally obtained a diagnosis of her hearing loss, I wanted Caroline to learn to talk so she could attend a "mainstream" school and be able to attain a job of her choosing, with fewer challenges when communicating with the hearing population. This, too, is what we want for the children helped by the Baker Institute.

The Baker Institute aims to help families get the information they need without the undue delay which my family endured; and we want to ensure to the extent possible with our resources that the ability to pay for such services is not a barrier to any child being able to join his or her peers in our hearing and speaking world.” — Jennifer Jordan McCall

Jennifer Jordan McCall is a partner at the law firm Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, LLP, based in Silicon Valley and New York, and she is the Chair of the Estates, Trusts & Tax Planning practice section. Pillsbury's Estates, Trusts & Tax Planning group ranked Tier 1 in US News/Best Lawyers for 2011. Pillsbury was named 2013 "Law Firm of the Year" for Trusts & Estates by U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers. Ms. McCall has been named by Chambers Directory as a National Leader in the fields of Trusts and Estates for 2006-2011 and by PLC Which Lawyer? for 2009-2011. She was recently nominated as one of only nine women in the United States as Wealth Management Lawyer of the Year. Furthermore, Ms. McCall was recently admitted to the Florida Bar and opened a new Palm Beach office.

In addition to Ms. McCall's work with the Baker Institute, she serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the San Francisco Ballet, is a member of the Planned Giving Committee of Princeton University, and serves as Trustee of several charitable foundations and charitable trusts.

Ms. McCall's daughter, Caroline Clark, was born with a hearing loss and uses two cochlear implants to listen and speak. Caroline is currently a successful spoken language communicator, and she is a 2011 Princeton University graduate. Because of Ms. McCall's experience with raising her daughter, she knows what it takes to help children with hearing loss succeed. She is passionate about helping other parents become empowered with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to make this possible for their own children.
