Why write a mission and vision statement?

To succeed as an organization, we must know what we are about.

We must be able to describe why we are here and what we want to achieve.

What is a vision?

A picture of what success would look like.

How we want Latino students to feel at Pali.

A powerful and attractive statement of who we are and who we want to be.

Visioning Questions

Our vision statement should answer these questions:

☆ Why did we start this club?

☆ When I leave Pali and LSU, what do I want to leave behind?

☆ What does LSU provide Latino and non-Latino students at Pali?

☆ If Pali could be anything we dreamed, how would it be?

What is a mission?

A description of what we do to achieve our vision.

How we use our unique strengths, experiences, and talents to create change.

It inspires us to be better in all areas of our lives—social, family, school, and community.

Mission Writing Questions

Our mission statement should answer three questions:

☆ What is our purpose? What are we trying to achieve? Why do we exist?

What do we stand for (our values)?

What actions do we take to demonstrate our purpose and values? What do we do?
