Three years ago we embarked on a mission to eradicate invasive weeds in the lake in hopes to improve
navigation, clarity and recreational use. In the spring we again treated for Curly Leaf Pondweed (CLP). AIS Consulting Services advised us that by controlling CLP we are reducing the phosphorus
content within the lake thus improving water quality. Our post inspections for these treatments are coming back with outstanding results. After this spring’s treatment there were some emails from homeowners stating they still had weeds along their shoreline. Please know that this treatment ONLY
kills CLP and that if a homeowner prefers an area to be weed free additional treatments are required.
We also treated for Eurasian Water Milfoil (EWM) this season. This was the first time we took the
business out to competitive bid for commercial application. We partnered with Lake Restoration to apply this product and they will be coming out shortly to assess the results. Because of the whole lake CLP
treatment, the DNR restricts us to treating only 50 acres of EWM compared to the 260 acres we treat for a CLP. We treated according to AIS’ survey recommendation of which 50 acres would be best treated.
We want to thank all the residents and companies who have donated this year to make both treatments
possible. With the lake level being lower we were able to save on the amount of product used and we were able to pay for both applications. However, as the lake levels fluctuates year to year so do our costs so know that a EWM treatment may not always be possible. Today we are happy to report our efforts are
working and the lake is improving.
Our next step in improving the quality of the lake is to control outside inputs from our watersheds. LSIA is working with the cities of Independence and Greenfield as well as the DNR, Three Rivers Park District and Pioneer-Sarah Creek Watershed Management Commission to help educate residents on best
management practices for their properties. This change will mean we need to encouraging the City of Greenfield to act, landowner wiliness to participate and time. We’re optimistic and hopefully about the
next steps in improving Lake Sarah. Watch for a forthcoming emails regarding Dance Hall Creek and please plan on attending the Greenfield’s City Council meeting being held July 21st at 7pm.

Fishery Update The multi-year walleye stocking efforts are showing some positive results. June 14, 2015, Joe
Baker was fishing for walleyes on Lake Sarah and landed a beautiful 19.5" walleye (pictured) and another 17.5" walleye. This is great news for the fishery as we look to continue the stocking
efforts.
