For all players in the banking sector, competing successfully in today’s turbulent and increasingly competitive markets is contingent on building a deep understanding of how to manage the risks created by disruptive forces that are rewriting the rulebook in global finance. organisations and lead change in an uncertain and highly competitive landscape.

Senior executives from offices in China, London, Hong Kong and South East Asia spent two intensive weeks with world-renowned LSE faculty from the departments of Finance and Management, gaining access to their leading-edge thinking, as well as exploring the very latest in research. With Professor Christopher Polk, Head of the Department of Finance at LSE, leading the programme, participants sharpened their expertise across a range of critical dimensions in global finance, including risk management and innovation in asset management.

In tandem, delegates developed the skills in cross-cultural and adaptive leadership, negotiation, influencing, and change management required by leaders in high-performing organisations. These concepts were explored through real-world case studies, with class discussions led by senior LSE faculty. LSE’s location at the heart of one of the world’s foremost finance hubs enabled exposure to international practices through site visits to leading business and cultural organisations, including the British Houses of Parliament.

Participants reported that they had acquired a more robust understanding of the forces reshaping global finance, and the tools and frameworks to help them navigate change as leaders in the 21st century. While the majority of the cohort said they would recommend the programme to colleagues, many concurred that the learning experience had also built greater pan-organisational alignment to execute strategy and realise vision going forward.

Describing the programme as a “resounding success,” Xue Shengli, Chief Learning Officer and Executive President of CCB University, stated: “The China Construction Bank Training Programme at LSE is a unique opportunity for our senior leaders to come together and review the latest trends, developments and thinking and build the kinds of risk-management and change leadership expertise that will empower us to execute our vision. We welcome this collaboration with LSE, one of the world’s foremost academic institutions, and look forward to delivering more editions in the future.”
