MANILA, PhilippinesHouseholds can expect some relief with a P2 per kilo rollback in liquefied petroleum

gas (LPG) prices effective Tuesday.

The LPG Marketers Association party-list group announced Monday its memberswho are independent

refillerswould reduce cooking gas prices on the entry of the new year and this may be followed by more

rollbacks in the coming weeks.

We see softer LPG pricesin the weeks ahead. Hopefully, this will just be the first of our price cutbacks

for 2013, said the LPG-MA in a statement.

With the P2/kg reduction, an 11-kg cylinder would cost P22 less.

The LPG-MA attributed the rollback to the drop in the international contract price of LPG.

LPG-MA Rep. Arnel Ty, in the same statement, noted that the international contract price for LPG had

been declining due to lower demand from the United States and Europe.

The strengthening Philippine peso also helped, as it became cheaper for Filipino importers to buy LPG in

dollars, Ty said.

The companies that belong to the LPGMA include Nation Gas, Pinnacle Gas, M-Gas, Island Gas,

Regasco Gas, Cat Gas and Omni-Gas.

Ty meanwhile pushed for the creation of a cylinder exchange and rehabilitation program so that defective

and substandard cylinders, which could cause fires, could be taken off the market.

He said he hoped the bill he filed seeking to put such a program in place would move forward in the

House of Representatives.

The bill also seeks to impose minimum fair standards of business conduct for all members of the LPG

industry.

Sinabi ng PhilBaking President Walter Co, na ang gagawin nilang pagtapyas sa presyo ng Pinoy Tasty

ay magsisilbing social effort o tulong sa mga estudyante at magulang sa muling pagbubukas ng klase.

Prices of vegetables, fish go up amid continued bad weather

Prices of some fish and vegetables went up anew in parts of Metro Manila amid bad

weather conditions brought by successive cyclones affecting Luzon.

In Quezon City, prices of some vegetables went up by P5 to as much as P20 per kilo at

the Mega-Q Mart, radio dzBBs Allan Gatus reported Wednesday.

The report also said prices of some fish went up by about P10 per kilo as well.

Parts of Northern Luzon, including Cordillera and Central Luzon, are major sources ofvegetables in Metro Manila.

Many parts of Northern Luzon, including Cordillera, Ilocos and Central Luzon, had been

affected in past weeks by rain and floods by Typhoon Labuyo (Utor) and the monsoon

enhanced by Tropical Storm Maring (Trami).

On Wednesday, Tropical Storm Nando (Kong-Rey) is threatening Northern Luzon,

prompting Benguet to suspend classes due to heavy rain and landslide-affected roads.

As of Wednesday morning, tomatoes at the Mega-Q Mart cost P80 per kilo, up from

P70, while cabbage sold at P50 per kilo, up from P40.

Eggplants sold at P40 per kilo, up from P35, while mustard (mustasa) sold at P60, up

P20 per kilo from the previous P40.

Baguio beans now cost P50 per kilo from P45.

Prices of other vegetables remained stable, including garlic at P80 per kilo, red onion at

P60 per kilo, white onion at P70 per kilo, and okra, ampalaya and carrot at P60 per kilo,

kilo from P80, while lapu-lapu was sold at P150 per kilo, up from the previous P140.
