Dear Parents,

We have been very busy the last few weeks settling into various routines and enjoying our new topic.

This term both the primary classes are learning about materials, the Lower Primary children are

accessing this topic as ‘Bob the Builder’. The topic covers all aspects of the curriculum including

language.

Now that we are all settled, I thought I would share our classroom timetable with you. We don’t keep

to it rigidly as other exciting opportunities often present themselves but it gives you an idea of what

your child might have been doing in the day.

There are a few routines you might want to know more about:

* A fruit snack is provided three times a week which we share with Nursery. If you think your child

might need one, you are welcome to send a small snack in with them which they can eat at playtime.

* Lunches, both hot and cold, are free for P1 to P3. The children have the daily opportunity to

purchase a milkshake for lunch if they wish, for 25p.

* PE kits are necessary on Tuesdays but they are worth keeping in the school as we take any

opportunity that arises to do some more in the week.

* We are currently completing our achievement jotters once a week and sharing them with you at

home. Please feel free to add anything to them.

* French; ‘Camembear’ is a bear who comes to visit us once a week to help us practise our French.

* P1s have a sound book that comes home every day to share and practise with. We aim to learn three

sounds a week. Very soon, I’ll be sending home some ideas for games to play with these letters and

sounds. There may also be the occasional phonic book to read as well. P1s will begin a reading

scheme after the October holidays. In the meantime, they have daily opportunities to choose and enjoy

texts, story DVDs and phonic games.

* P2 will continue with spelling tests/new spellings on Fridays. * The school blog is always well

worth a visit and is useful for the ‘What’s On’: http://stronsay-jh.blogspot.co.uk/

I’m sure there are things I might have missed so if you have any questions at all please ring or drop

the school an e mail. If you would like to come and have a chat about how your child is settling in, I

am available:

Tues 10:25 – 11:10

Fri 9:45 – 10:20

After school Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

I’d be very happy to meet you and answer any questions you might have, share some work or show

you some resources that we use.

Kind regards,

Mrs Sarah Evans
