Ocean Awareness

A group of Students from Lowanna and Ulong were able to experience the wonders of the Ocean, including dodging blue bottles. Activities at Park Beach included body surfing, Iron Man races, board surfing and resuscitation. Thanks to the eager surf lifesavers our students were able to participate with enthusiasm.

Year 6 Big Day Out I was privileged to share the Year 6 big day out with our girls and the girls from Ulong, what a lovely way to celebrate the end of primary school. Our girls did Lowanna

PS proud, with their quiet and courteous approach to activities. They all participated in each activity, and well just seem to love being upside down at the moment.

Snr Constable Jo Brooker, Youth Liaison Officer

Jo Brooker came to visit Lowanna last week. She spoke to the students about the importance of cyber safety, and about the occurrence of vandalism, graffiti and being on or in a property without permission. The students were able to speak about the consequences of “bad choices”. In addition, about how

this could affect their future job opportunities.

Mrs Denise Knight, Mayor of Coffs Harbour The Mayor of Coffs Harbour, Mrs Denise Knight, came to visit the students at Lowanna today and apologised for not being able to make it to our End of Year Assembly. The students were able to talk with Mrs Knight about her job as Mayor and what she loves about it. She encouraged the students to visit the Coffs Harbour Council, the Art Museum and the Library.

Please send in an extra bag with your child so we can send home the books used this year. We will begin Packing up tomorrow and students will be able to take home the majority of their schoolwork. For those who walk home, you may be able to collect their books on Thursday at our end of year Assembly.

School Attendance Whilst attendance at Lowanna Public School has shown great improvement with 100% for a few days, I have noticed the amount of school absences are quite high. It is VITAL that ALL students attend school on a regular basis to enable them to gain the

most out of their learning and to retain the skills taught. I have included a quote from The Schools Attendance Policy, for you to consider in the new year. Make education important!

Habitual Absence is defined as ‘The child/young person is of compulsory school age (6 years to current leaving age) AND is habitually absent’. ‘Habitually absent is a minimum of 30 days absence within the past 100 school days. However, principals should consider other factors, such as the student’s age and learning support needs in deciding on action earlier than the 30 days indicated.

Looking forward to celebrating Lowanna Public School’s End of Year with you all on Thursday.

School Reports Reports have been completed and editing is almost finished. They will go home at the end of the week. Just a reminder of how grading works. Below is an example of a chart that can be found on the front of your child’s report.
