Love Your Boat Potluck and Social A group of 42 people gathered at the Sailing Club on Valentine’s Day for the Love Your Boat Potluck and Social. Thanks to the decorating flair of Mike and Marilyn Dawson, the Club House looked lovely decked out in a Valentine theme. While people mingled and nibbled on appies, Peter and Debbie Brouwer and Kim Laidlaw served up beverages at the bar, including celebratory “bubbly”. Thanks to Staff Captain Mike Dawson and his hardworking kitchen volunteers for planning and serving up a gourmet feast of potluck fare: John and Diane Lugsdin, Jill Collingwood and Brian Gilliam, Jill Taylor, Laura and Gord Dafoe, Laurie Clark, Jan Macpherson, and Colleen Shantz. Love Your Boat Potluck and Social

Commodore Chris Cheeseman paid tribute to Sharon Hawke, long-time respected club member and social committee volunteer, who died earlier that day. She will be greatly missed by many people.

Following dinner, Mike Dawson went over the rules for the Captains/Skippers Quiz Game. The Valentiners team was able to match 20/20 captains with their boats and claimed top prize for their efforts. Roy and His Laddies (we were a bit confused as there were women on this team) and We The People tied for second with 19/20 matches. The top 3 teams were rewarded with Valentine chocolates. As the evening wound down, Mike Dawson, our Bard-In-Residence, proposed a toast to our boats and then recited his poetic masterpiece “Ode to Your Boat”.

And, last but not least, thanks to Gord Dafoe and Colleen Shantz for being our roving photographers for this event. (See lots more of their photos on the club’s Flickr page.)
