Volume XIV, Issue II Love Thy Neighbor Ministries t The Good Neighbor April, May, June 2018 “For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Galatians 5:13 Ministry Update Steve Kacprzak, Executive Director All is well with the work of the ministry. We’re seeing some changes at the inner city nursing homes that we will discuss in more detail in a later edition of our newsletter. Because large print complete (that is, Old and New Testament) Bibles are always in need for nursing home and assisted living facility residents, we have a plan to raise funds to supply some. One of our wonderful volunteers has donated two beautiful quilts that she made to help us in this effort. Pictures of both quilts are enclosed with this mailing. Our plan, as you can see by the enclosures, is to raffle off the quilts. All the money will go directly to purchase large print Bibles and Bible study materials (highlighters, pens, memo books). You will find enclosed 6 raffle tickets should you wish to help us supply the Word of God to residents. The cost is $5.00 per ticket. All you need to do is write your name and phone number on the ticket(s), tear that portion off and return them with your check in the enclosed self-addressed envelope. The drawing of two winning tickets will take place at the end of June. The first place winner will receive the quilt of his or her choice, with the other quilt going to the second place winner. Winners will be notified and need not be present at the drawing. Please support this worthwhile project! The Good Neighbor Get Together program has been operating successfully at Vistoso Community Church in Oro Valley for over 12 months and we’ve enjoyed celebrating with our guests such themes as The Wild West, Get Your Kicks on Route 66, The Wide World of Sports and The Great Outdoors, to name a few. At every event there have been interesting crafts, exciting activities, engaging puzzles, special musical entertainment, and at the last event, a wonderful magic act. Guests and volunteers also enjoy a snack and full lunch at each event. Everything is provided free of charge. We are also happy to report that another church, this one in Tucson, has indicated an interest in hosting a monthly Good Neighbor Get Together event on their campus. Over the next few months we’ll be helping them to promote the program at their church and community and to recruit and train volunteers. For four Tuedays in May, beginning on the 8 th , we’ll be presenting the Teepa Snow video series “Practical Tips for Better Living with Parkinson’s Disease”. It will be hosted by Vistoso Community Church, at 1200 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd., Oro Valley. In this series you will learn: What is Parkinson’s disease How is PD diagnosed How is PD treated Medication & drug intervention What is Parkinsonism Who gets Parkinson’s disease After the diagnosis: what you choose matters What helps, what hurts and what gets in the way Using rhythm and movement to overcome freezing and rigidity Medication and drug intervention And much more!

A man is driving down a country road, when he spots a farmer standing in the middle of a huge planted field. He pulls the car over to the side of the road and notices that the farmer is just standing there, doing nothing. The man gets out of the car, walks all the way out to the farmer and asks him, "Excuse me, mister, but what are you doing?"

The farmer replies, "I'm trying to win a Nobel Prize."

"How?" asks the man, puzzled.

"Well...I heard they give the Nobel Prize to people who are out standing in their field."

Laughter Is Good Medicine

“A test of a people is how it behaves toward the old. It is easy to love children. Even tyrants and dictators make a point of being fond of children. But the affection and care for the old, the incurable, the helpless are the true gold mines of a culture.” Abraham Joshua Heschel

We thank God daily for the ministry opportunities He’s so graciously entrusted to Love Thy Neighbor Ministries. We are doing our best to be faithful Ambassadors for Christ in our outreach to the residents and staff of the local nursing Homes, assisted living facilities and, through special programs, those who are homebound and their caregivers.
