Chad, A Country of Spiritual and Physical

Need

Helping the urban poor should be a priority for Christians as we demonstrate Christ’s love and compassion in the world.

It is even more urgent when those poor are brothers and sisters in Christ.

Page 3: Love In Action International PPT 2010

Population: 6.8 Million

Average Annual Income: $700

Live Expectancy: 47 Years

Four decades of civil unrest

Short growing seasons bring famine months each year.

Page 4: Love In Action International PPT 2010

4

What are we doing to alleviate the lowest

standard of living in the world?

Chadian Christians are without many of the basic

necessities of life.

Page 5: Love In Action International PPT 2010

5

We believe the best way to help Chadian Christians is with vocational training.

Training for employment is the answer to poverty

elimination.

Helping Christians Grow Churches in the Republic of Chad

Page 7: Love In Action International PPT 2010

7

We want the African church to be indigenous. We helped to plant it, now we expect it to grow and develop in its cultural context. What’s wrong that they don’t seem to catch the vision? A main reason is their poverty. We must seek ways to empower churches for development and ministry in the poverty of urban Africa. We need to facilitate vocational training and employment for Christians.

Poverty in Africa

80% of the

population

is below the

poverty line.

48% of the

population

in Chad is

under 15

years of

age.

Economy and Survival

A functional economy is essential for social structure and social survival.

Employment is essential to personal survival in the society. (1 Thes. 4:11-12)

Employment of church members is essential to indigenous ministry survival.

Indigenous ministry must be self supporting.

Page 10: Love In Action International PPT 2010

10

Economy and Survival

Since societies are integrated systems of institutions, each institution must do its part. Through LIAI it is served by the economy of enterprise:

Gov’t – Edu – Econ – Rel – Family

Ministry Survival

Personal Survival

Economy and Survival

Poverty in local cultures can be helped by evangelical missions and NGOs like Love in Action.

They must help people help themselves: providing vocational training, micro economic development, business as mission, etc.

This results in contextualized economic development among committed Christians.

Vision Principles of Love in

Action International The church in the 2/3 world is crippled by poverty and Christianity in the West has a responsibility to help.

Authentic relationships with God through Christ are foundational to successful self-help programs among poor peoples.

Poverty is only overcome on its own soil. Poverty elimination methods must be

adapted to the context.

Page 15: Love In Action International PPT 2010

15

Vision Principles of Love in

Action International Vocational training through viable business

is a multiplication solution to poverty. Training on all levels, from vocational skills

to management, is best accomplished through apprenticeships.

Management must also be able to train apprentices for local ministry.

Page 16: Love In Action International PPT 2010

16

Vision Principles of Love in

Action International Management must feel ownership. Subsidies are only used for startup capital;

occasional gifts used for encouragement. People in the partnerships must:

• be authentic in their faith and Christian WV, • possess the skills and aptitudes necessary,• be committed to the vision of LIAI and hard

work.

Page 17: Love In Action International PPT 2010

17

Vision Principles of Love in

Action International The purpose of LIAI is to empower local

churches. Local churches are central to the vision but not owners of the businesses.

Local opinion leaders must advise the cultural aspects of the projects.

Thank you for taking time to view this presentation of Love in Action International, Inc. Please consider how God may want you to participate in the lives of brothers and sisters in Chad who are often in desperate situations and always in need of employment for day to day needs.

Employment will strengthen the churches as people are able to participate in the ministries to support them. This includes hiring a pastor, sending students to Bible school to become pastors and evangelists, sending missionaries to unreached tribes, building shelters for church services, and helping the poor among themselves.
