The purpose of the factory measurement service is to measure and provide layout drawings for each bus run. We are there to avoid mistakes in measuring and take the worry out of laying out the busway, which could cost you time and money. To help you make the most of our site visit, we have outlined what to expect from our service and what we need in the way of preparation before the visit.
Service
• Our on-site measurement personnel are factory-trained and experienced with busway products
• We use handheld laser distance measuring tools to save time and ensure an accurate measurement
• One set price includes travel expenses, site visit and measurement, and layout drawings for your approval
• Expedited approval drawings within two weeks of the site visit
Site preparation
The following information should be worked out before scheduling your on-site measurement:
• Are the walls, floor and other obstacles the busway will penetrate or be routed around in place for measurement?
Scheduling
• To help ensure the best possible service, we send only engineers and technicians who are trained and experienced in busway measurements and layouts; as a result, we have a limited number of personnel available. Requests are fulfilled on a “first come, first served basis”
• Please allow two weeks’ notice to schedule a site visit
• We will accommodate expedited requests whenever possible; an additional fee will apply if service is required in less than two weeks
• Are the termination points identified and in a fixed location?
• Where is your gear lineup?
• Will it be sitting on a pad?
• What are the utility requirements, if applicable?
• Where is the transformer to be set?
• What are the on-site requirements and restrictions? (minimum headroom, maximum height, and the like)
• Where is the busway being routed outside and throughout the building?
• What other trades are also occupying the area, and where are they being routed?
• We will need the assistance of one person on the job site who is familiar with all of the above and who can work with us for the day to complete the measurements for the busway layout
Guarantee
• Most variance in the layout dimensions can be accommodated with our Pow-R-BridgeE coupling, whichallows a 1-inch adjustment per joint connection. Should there be a measurement error that exceeds this adjustment, we will provide a replacement piece in a timely manner at no additional charge 1
AThis free replacement does not include changes made in the layout or site after the factory rep has completed the measurements.

Pow-R-Way III low voltage buswayFinal Field Fit Program
The exact fit the first time
Eaton is dedicated to producing a quality product and delivering it on time. The Final Field Fit Program was established to effectively manage the dimensional uncertainties that are often inherent in busway layouts. This program has been successful for many years, and it provides the assurance of an exact fit the first time. It allows for busway runs to be released for manufacture when certain dimensions are not yet determined. It also eliminates the costly delays that can occur when sections have to be remade to accommodate last-minute job site changes in routing.
Benefits:
• Exact fit the first time
• Eliminates incorrect pieces
• Facilitates on-time project completion

What is a final fit piece?
A field fit section of busway is typically an elbow or a short section of feeder that is intentionally left out of a run for later shipment. It is most often a mutually agreed upon section between the customer and the plant. In Figure 1,the field fit piece is identified as item F01, a downward elbow flange.
Upon release of the order, this item is kept on hold for field measurement. The contractor will install the busway (items A01 through A12) and is then able to obtain an exact dimension for the final field fit piece. In this case, the measurement for item F01 should be made from the top of “SWGR 1” up to the outside edge of the busway (dimension “A”) and from the outside edge of the busway back to the edge of the housing of item A12 (dimension “B”).
When should the program be used?
If you are uncertain of the exact dimensions on long runs or if you have pathway obstructions that will require job site routing of the busway, this program can help you.
Here’s how the final field fit program works1. Review busway
requirements with your Greenwood product engineer. Together, you can determine which piece should be field fit. Release all the busway except the field fit piece. (There is a limit to the number of field fit pieces that can be supplied, so please consult your Greenwood product engineer.)
2. The contractor installs the busway and measures the field fit piece dimensions.
3. The contractor can fax the dimensions directly to the Greenwood product engineer on the Final Field Fit Program Fax Release, Figure 2. The contractor simply fills in the requested information and transmits the form. The Final Field Fit Program Fax Release form is customized to each order and shipped to the job site with the busway. The field fit items will match the “F” items shown on the construction draw-ings provided by Eaton. It will also reference the Eaton drawing number and General Order number.
4. The field fit piece will ship within five to 10 working days of receipt. Offset and combination offset fittings may take longer to ship. Also, if more than five field fit pieces release at the same time, the shipment lead-time may take longer than five to 10 working days. Contact the factory for lead-times.

Pow-R-Way III busway
Feeder and plug-in indoor busway with copper conductors are available in 10-foot (3.0 m) and 6-foot (1.8 m) lengths. They can be used interchangeably without the use of special adapters or special splice plates, provided they are the same current and system rating.
Pow-R-Way III is constructed with a lightweight and rugged two-piece all-aluminum extruded housing, which is rated as a 50% ground path.
Copper busbars for plug-in applications have full-sized conductor tabs welded to their side edges to form the plug-in contact surfaces. Tabs are the same exact thickness as the conductors and are fully rated up to 800A.
Corner joint elbows
When it comes to bends and turns in a bus run, the Pow-R-Way III corner joint isthe most compact elbow in the industry. Given the complexity of today’s industrial and commercial distribution systems, and the need to coordinate layouts with HVAC, plumbing and lighting requirements, space quickly becomes a critical factor.
The Pow-R-Way III corner joint elbow can be installed in areas where traditional 90-degree elbows could never have been accomplished before.
Due to its compact design, the corner joint also allows for layouts that provide optimum utilization of space. Critical section length that would normally be required for a traditional elbow leg length can now be dedicated to maximizing usable plug-in section length.
The corner joint is as reliable as traditional elbows. It is seismically certified and exceeds the requirements of both the UBC and the CBC (Zone 4). The corner joint is UL Listedfor indoor applications.

The advantages of busway
There are many definite advantages to busway over cable and conduit distribution systems:
• Fewer man-hours for installation
• Busway is engineered and built to fit your specific layout needs. It is shipped to the job site ready for installation. Busway can be installed quickly and efficiently with only 40% of the labor required to install a conduit and wire system
• Compact size
• Due to its sandwich-style design, busway has a very compact cross-sectional area and therefore occupies far less space than multiple conduits
• Reusable, expandable, flexible
• As distribution needs change, you can easily relocate existing busway runs or add new sections to extend bus runs into other areas of your facility
• A safe and versatile design
• Pow-R-Way III meets the requirements of UL, NEMA, CSA and IEEE. Additionally, Pow-R-Way IIIis seismically qualified to both the UBC and CBC, exceeding Zone 4 worst case levels. The conductor bars are totally enclosed in a nonventilated aluminum housing that provides the highest short-circuit ratings in the industry today. All bus plugs are polarized to prevent improper installation, and the plug-in outlets are rated as IP2X for finger safety to IEC 529
• Lower installed cost
• The savings in labor can generate a total installed cost reduction of as much as 40% compared to a conduit and cable installation
Busway saves time and money
Myth
“Busway is more expensive than cable and conduit.”
Fact
With the higher wholesale costs of cable and conduit, busway is very competitive when comparing material costs. However, it is the reduction in the number of man-hours required for installation that provides a significantly lower installed cost with busway than with pipe and wire.
Myth
“Busway requires accurate layout and measurements. That takes too much time and effort and leaves room for errors.”
Fact
Accurate layouts can be done quickly with the help of Eaton’s Greenwood plant. Customer approval drawings are mailed two weeks after receipt of the order. The Final Field Fit Program provides the means to effectively manage the dimensional uncertainties that are often inherent in busway layouts. The savings realized with a busway installation should compensate for the time and effort required.
To learn more about Eaton’s innovative products and solutions, call 1-877-ETN-CARE. For engineering services, call 1-800-498-2678, or visit www.eaton.com.
Myth
“Busway takes too long to get to the job site while pipe and wire is always available.”
Fact
Our lead-times are more competitive than ever, and Greenwood can handle most Quick-Ship requests to meet the project requirements.
Myth
“In the low- to mid-range (225A–1600A) ratings, there are no savings.”
Fact
Busway can be competitive at any rating. A number of variables determine the installed cost of a distribution system. Contact Eaton for application assistance.
Evaluating a comparison
When you evaluate your own job comparison, try an aluminum or copper busway alternate against copper cable. As you can see from the table above, aluminum and copper busway required approximately a third of the installation time.
Pow-R-Way III has manyfeatures that are beneficial, such as Class B insulation, an integral housing ground, an isolated ground option and a 200% neutral option. Contact your Eaton sales engineer for more information.

Determine a cost-effective solution
The Busway Value Calculator has been developed to help customers determine if Eaton Pow-R-Way III buswayor cable and conduit is the most cost-effective solution for any given application. This user-friendly tool does a side-by-side total installed cost comparison of busway to cable and conduit. With the lightweight, compact design of Pow-R-Way III busway, there are significant labor cost savings resulting in an overall installed cost savings over cable and conduit systems.
How it works
The Busway Value Calculator uses the NECA labor unit system to help calculate the labor costs associated with installing cable and conduit systems as well as busway systems. There are no hidden tricks, and the user has full control of the comparison. While default pricing is included, all data, from the NECA labor unit values to material costs, can be adjusted to match your costs and efficiencies. This also allows you to see cost impacts as variables change.
Additional comparisons
In addition to the installed cost comparison, the Busway Value Calculator does a space savings comparison and a voltage drop comparison between busway and cable and conduit systems.
• Space Savings—With itscompact design, the Pow-R-Way III buswayoccupies far less space than that of multiple conduits. In the sample comparison shown, conduit would occupy 92 square inches of space along the run compared with only 32 square inches for Pow-R-Way III busway
• Voltage Drop Efficiencies— With Pow-R-Way III busway having only one or two conductors per phase and the Pow-R-Bridge joint design, its voltage drop is much lower than that associated with cable. In the sample comparison shown, the line-to-line voltage drop for cable is 39.1V at the end of the run. Pow-R-Way III busway has only an 8.8 drop in voltage at the end of the run. This means much lower losses, allowing a more efficient use of energy
Based upon your fully burdened labor rate and material costs, the calculator configures a material cost comparison, a labor cost comparison and a total cost comparison, as well as bills of material for both.
Most selections may be made via drop-down menus. Once the ampere rating of the system is selected, the Busway Value Calculator automatically sizes the conduit and cable and determines the number of each per phase. This is done per NEC guidelines and tables. This may also be done manually within the program.
The final comparison results may be printed in a report format or exported as a Word document and saved. Shown at right is a cost comparison for a 1600A tie run between two switchboards. The bill of material is for 300 feet, 3-phase, 4-wire with ground, eight elbows and two switchboard connections. Rigid conduit is used with 500 kcmil THHN copper cable. The fully burdened labor rate is set at $35.00 per hour.
