VOCATION NEWS: What is the reason I was born? What is the reason I came into the world? Am I called to testify to the truth by becoming a priest, brother or sister? (John 18:33-37)

A Message from Fr. Carlos _________________________________________
My beloved parish Family, today we come to
the end of our Liturgical calendar. Ordinary time is
now finished and we begin preparation for the Most
Wonderful Time of the Year, Advent and Christmas!
Our celebration today invites us to honor Jesus as
our KING. I realize that this word “KING” does not
sit well with us, Americans. Often what we think of
a King in our modern world is not something we are
inclined to honor. History has not been kind to these
peculiar characters especially from ages past due to
their egocentric and often evil behaviors. That is
why we have to be very careful when thinking about
Jesus as a King; Jesus is most certainly a King but
not the way the world thinks of a king. To
understand why we call Jesus a King, let me tell you
the story of an Irish King …
He had no children to succeed him on the
throne, so he decided to choose his successor from
among the people. The only condition set by the
King, as announced throughout his kingdom, was
that the candidate must have a deep love for God and
neighbor. In a remote village of the kingdom lived a
poor but gentle youth who was noted for his
kindness and helpfulness to all his neighbors. The
villagers encouraged him to enter the contest for
kingship. They took up a collection for him so that
he could make the long journey to the royal palace.
After giving him the necessary food and a good
overcoat, they sent him on his way. As the young
man neared the castle, he noticed a beggar sitting on
a bench in the royal park, wearing torn clothes. He
was shivering in the cold while begging for food.
Moved with compassion, the young man gave the
beggar his new overcoat and the food he had saved
for his return journey. After waiting for a long time
in the parlor of the royal palace, the youth was
admitted for an interview with the king. As he
raised his eyes after prostrating before the king, he
was amazed to find the King wearing the overcoat he
had given to the beggar at the park and greeting him
as the new King of the country. —
And there we have it my friends, we
Christian Catholics are invited to honor our King the
way he commanded us to do, mainly by means of
service and love for everyone. That is why today
and for whatever days we may have left on this
earth, we will do well to remember that Jesus comes
in glory, Christ the King is coming and he is going
to judge us on the basis of our corporal and spiritual
works of mercy. After all, Jesus subjects, US, are
but his sisters and brothers and we honor Jesus’
kingship best when we honor and serve one another!
May your week be prosperous and your
kindness insurmountable,
Fr. Carlos What We Do In Life Echoes in Eternity

Joke of the week… One day a kindergarten teacher nun said to
the class of 5-year-olds, “I’ll give $2 to the child
who can tell me who was the most famous man who
ever lived.” An Irish boy put his hand up and said,
“It was St. Patrick. “The teacher said, “Sorry Sean,
that’s not correct.” Then a Scottish boy put his hand
up and said, “It was St. Andrew.” The teacher
replied, “I’m sorry, Hamish, that’s not right either.
“Finally, a Jewish boy raised his hand and said, “It
was Jesus Christ.” The teacher said, “That’s
absolutely right, Marvin, come up here and I’ll give
you the $2.” As the teacher was giving Marvin his
money, she said, “You know Marvin, you being
Jewish, I was very surprised you said Jesus Christ.”
Marvin replied, “Yeah. In my heart I knew it was
Moses, but business is business…”

Journeying
Together through
the Synod
Have you heard
about the Synod?
Pope Francis is
inviting all of us to
be a Church which
learns by listening
to the experiences
of individuals, from inside and outside the Church
community. Remembering the encounter St. Peter
had with Cornelius (Acts 10), the Holy Father
invites us to listen with care for the voice of the
Spirit guiding the church as we journey together.
Will you include the Synod effort in your prayers?
We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather
together in Your name. With You alone to guide
us, make Yourself at home in our hearts; Teach
us the way we must go and how we are to pursue
it. We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote
disorder. Do not let ignorance lead us down the
wrong path nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity so that we may
journey together to eternal life and not stray
from the way of truth and what is right. All this
we ask of You, who are at work in every place
and time, in the communion of the Father and the
Son, forever and ever. Amen.
