Church-Wide

Old-Time Shindig | Sept. 14 | 4:00 p.m. | Earnest Shepherd Center (610 Shepherd Rd., Liberty)Shindig is an old-fashioned celebration highlighting our ministry at 2BC. We’ll eat BBQ and pie, play games, look back at the last two years of ministry and look forward at the next two years to see where our faith journey will lead us.

Calling all bakers! Shindig features a pie-baking contest, and we need some of 2BC’s best bakers to compete for fun! Pie crust must be made from scratch, and the pie must have a homemade fruit filling. If you are interested in competing, please contact Bryan Boyd at [email protected], or Maggie Henderson at [email protected]. You also can call the church office at 817-781-2824.

coffee with the pastor | Sept. 21 | 9:45 a.m. Join Pastor Jason Edwards and a few members of Second Baptist Church for an informal coffee. Ask questions and chat about Second Baptist, how things work and anything you might want to know as you become more familiar with the faith family at Second. Contact Maggie Henderson at [email protected] to sign up.

Community Group Sign-Ups | Sign-ups Begin Soon | Groups Begin in OctoberOur Community Group Ministry is made up of various group types designed to meet a variety of participants’ needs for spiritual growth and involvement. Activity Groups are structured to share and explore a common activity. Study Groups build spiritual growth through study, exploration, and understanding of God’s word. Support Groups are structured toward healing and growth of members who have gone through a common experience or crisis. Covenant Groups are long-term, high-com-mitment support systems. If you would like to lead a Community Group or have an idea for a group, contact Connie McNeill, Interim Spiritual Formation Pastor at [email protected] or call the church office at 816.781.2824.

Student Handbell Choir | Sundays | 8:45 a.m.The 2BC Student Handbell Choir will begin rehearsals on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 8:45 a.m. in the Music Suite Room 501.

We are searching for students grades 8 through 12 to be a part of this fun group. We have a great time learning different musical styles and techniques and contributing to worship. Prior musical experience (vocal, instrumental, keyboard) is helpful, but not necessary. Interested? Contact Christie White, director, at [email protected], 816-419-6990, or ask for her in the Music Suite before or after the Sunday morning service.

Fuller Center for Housing BBQ | Sept. 18 | 5:00 p.m. | Gladstone Community CenterThe Fuller Center for Housing invites you to attend its 5th Annual BBQ, Benefit and Celebration. Videos, awards, BBQ dinner and a silent and live auction will highlight the evening. Visit fullercenterkc.org to learn more, or contact Mike Lassiter at [email protected] if you would like to attend with a group from 2BC. Tickets are $30 per person or $240 for a table of eight.

Children’s Choirs | Sundays | 9:00-9:40 a.m.The Children’s Choirs begin rehearsals this morning! These choirs are designed to nurture children’s understanding of and relationship with God as well as encourage and equip them to be leaders in worship. We rehearse once a week, and the three oldest choirs will sing for worship various times throughout the year.

We offer choirs for these age groups:Music Experience (3 yrs. and 4 yrs. old) Room 204 | Amy Hoffman is the leader

MUSIC TIME (PreK and Kindergarten) Room 206 | Lisa Long is the leader

MUSIC MAKERS (1st & 2nd Graders) Room 405 | Julie Williams is the leader

For more information, contact Allan Aunspaugh at 781-2824 ext. 306 or [email protected].

Comfort Drive for South Dakota | September 15–October 12 We will again be traveling to South Dakota in October with blankets and coats for the Lakota people. We give the comfort items to several Lakota pastors of the Dakota Association who distribute the items as needed. We have found that gently used heavier winter coats and blankets are the best. In addition to the blankets and coats, we will also collect new athletic socks, which is a request from Arlys, the Bridger Community Health Worker. Many of the people, mainly the elderly, don’t go out as much during the long stretches of cold and often run out of propane for heat, so they wear socks to help keep warm in their homes. Place items in the black bins at the west, south and east doors.

Coffee & Conversation | Sept. 15 | 1:00 p.m.Our Senior Adult Ministry hosts a twice-monthly Coffee & Conversation in the Social Room. No reservations needed, just bring a friend and your coffee mug! The first Monday of each month features donuts (bring a dollar if you’d like some); on the third Monday, homemade treats are shared.
