Closed Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving Proclamation– by Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States of America
It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God; to confess their
sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to
recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations
are blessed whose God is the Lord. We know that by His divine law, nations, like individuals, are subjected to punishments and chastisements in this world. May we not justly fear that the awful calamity of civil war, which now desolates the land, may be a punishment inflicted upon us
for our presumptuous sins, to the needful end of our national
reformation as a whole people?–continued on page 5
People from all walks of life enjoy the tongue-in-cheek humor and real-life stories woven into the pages of The Fishwrapper. They encounter candid thoughts designed to stir the soul, inspire imagination and provide encouragement for the journey.
Your advertising dollars make this possible.
Thank You!
WELCOMEAdvertisers
WHAT’S IN THE NAME?Years ago people would wrap their fish in newspaper. The term became a slant at the newspaper itself. When one disagreed with an article, the standard comment was, “Yeah, I saw that in the Fishwrapper”- indicating that was all the paper was good for. We use it because, even though we deal with significant and even life-changing subjects, we try to not take ourselves too seriously!
The Fishwrapper has grown to a total distribution of approximately 89,000 across five counties, and mailed to subscribers in all 50 states. Nine different editions in different coverage areas are published two times per month, adding up to 24 issues per area, per year. Zone 1 is published on the first and third Tuesday of the month, while Zone 2 is published on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Advertisers can use any number of these editions they wish. All editions feature the same stories but incorporate different advertisers.
WHO READS THE FISHWRAPPER?We hear often from readers who consistently express a strong appreciation for the unique style The Fishwrapper offers; they love to read it cover to cover. The reader demographics are an unusual mix that you will not find anywhere else! We have a faithful and diverse audience. Many of our readers are part of the “Plain Community,” but many are not. Lots of readers live in the country, but there are many folks in the townships and cities who enjoy reading stories of the good ol’ days. There are not a lot of publications left that promote strong family values and respect for one another, so we hope The Fishwrapper helps to fill that void.
Our Plain Community readers in particular tend to shy away from the media; they are much less “plugged in” to most types of media. This means they are less bombarded with other advertising messages, so our advertisers have much less competition to deal with!
If you think that your product or service would do well with this type of population, we’d be glad to do business with you. We depend on advertisers like you to fund the cost of this publication. Please accept our thanks for your support and encouragement in helping to make this paper a success!

The Strengths Of AdvertisingIn The Fishwrapper
1. Extended Circulation - Instead of throwing The Fish-wrapper away without reading it, our readers eagerly anticipate each issue, and often pass their copy on to friends and family, who regularly pass it on again. In the few months with a 5th Tuesday (and no issue), readers let us know it is missed.
2. Extended Shelf Life - Fishwrapper content long outlives that of other competing publications. Your ad will be seen for long after the 2 week issue date on its front cover.
3. Trust and Value - Fishwrapper readers appreciate the core moral values and positive content of the publica-tion, and by extension trust the advertisers.
4. Encourages Word-of-Mouth - Fishwrapper readers are known to discuss content with each other and recom-mend advertisers.
5. Reaches A Unique Audience - Certain segments of our readers have little exposure to mass media and other advertising noise, so your ad will have less competition.
6. Better Exposure - Compared to other ad only or ad based publications, your ad is imbedded within The Fishwrapper content which reduces the number of ads per page and increases readers contact with the ad message.
7. A Flexible Read - The content and layout of the paper can be read in multiple short reads or in a single sitting depending on the preference of the reader.
8. Unique Exposure Vehicle - Fishwrapper ads work alone or as a valuable ingredient to other forms of exposure.
9. Flexible Coverage Options - Reaches a broad demo-graphic in the local territory. Advertisers may choose the size of ads, length of time and area of distribution that best fulfills their need. Discounts are structured to en-courage consistent long-term advertising which produces the strongest results.
WHAT WILL MY AD COST?1. Determine the areas (Editions), such as Lebanon, Lancaster East,
etc., you wish to cover. Note different base prices for each edition (page 4).
2. Add the appropriate upgrade charges: Color, or Mailing/online (see page 4) or for front page placement, add $340 for Lancaster East, $320 for Lancaster South and West, or $300 for Zone 1 editions.
3. Multiply the number of Editions by the number of times (Issues) you want to run.
Zone 1 editions (Berks E. & W., Lebanon, Dauphin, Schuylkill ) come out
the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month; all Zone 2 editions (Lancaster E., W.
and S.) come out on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month (see schedule
pages 8-9).
4. Subtract any discounts you qualify for.

GUIDELINESAdvertising: Most of the commonly asked questions we receive are explained in this ad packet (see also the FAQ section of thefishwrapperonline.com. We know that your advertising dollars need to generate results. Someone will be glad to assist you in developing an ad strategy that will best fit your needs. Other advertisers are depending on you. Your cooperation in booking ads, submitting changes and giving approval of proofs on or before deadlines helps keep printing schedules on-time. ADVERTISING TIPS:1. Your copy should include a strong call to action.
2. A picture is worth a thousand words if it conveys a message. Otherwise it is confusing.
3. Keep wording to a minimum. Your ad will only hold the reader’s attention momentarily.
4. White space actually draws the reader’s attention. Don’t try to cram everything in.
5. Include only the important stuff. Your goal is to get the customer into your place of business.
6. Highlight your competitive advantage. How will your product or service benefit the consumer?
7. Don’t try to be everything to everyone. Target your niche market and be everything you can be to that audience.
8. Monitor your ads. Ask your customers where they saw your ad. Keep a chart handy to accurately monitor customer responses. Don’t make assumptions.
9. Word of mouth advertising has been around a long time. However, it often falls short of attracting the number of customers needed to be successful in business.
10. You have to spend money to make money. There are ways to save money, but typically advertising is not the place to cut corners. Successful advertising may cost some money but the costs will be offset by the increased sales.
