Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

From looking back at both of my front covers, I think that I have expressed the magazine genre very well. This is because of the props that I have used in the shot and the usage of colour that makes the magazine look like it is made for those who are mainly interested in rock.I personally think that the preliminary tasks helped me develop my editing skills such as the use of Photoshop. The preliminary tasks also helps me to place things more efficiency and appropriately that is similar to a music magazine.

For both of my media products, I have used most of the convention that I have seen in the popular music magazine. For example masthead, cover lines, selling line, barcode, price and date. In my opinion, I think that by using all these conventions, it would attract the audience as it shows sophistication and my music magazine is easy to read, so it wouldn’t confuse the audience.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MUSIC MAGAZINE AND COLLEGE MAGAZINE On my college magazine cover I did not include the selling

line at the top of the magazine whereas the music magazine did, this is because I think that it will be too pack to be included, since the cover lines is already display unordered beside the main image. In additional to this, if the front cover of the magazine is packed with text; the audience may lose interest to the magazine.

The colour scheme of the music magazine and the college magazine are completely different. The colour of the college magazine is more more softer and playful whereas the music magazine is more dark and dull this is because pastel colour is associated with a being delicate and innocent, which may attract to the student better than darker colour tone.

What have you learnt from the preliminary task?

There are many things that I have learnt from my preliminary task for instance, the time management and the photo-shoot. In terms of time management on preliminary task, I have been really slaggy and not meet the time that has been set, which this laziness creates an impact to other tasks.

Also, another important element is images. I have leant that images in the magazine can make the magazine look more sophisticated so that the audience wouldn’t be bored from text. Moreover, the different camera shots that I have used in the preliminary task also helps me to see which image might work, which might not for the real product.
