1. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? Question 7 2. Lighting was an issue throughout the entirety of the filming, not thinking much of it we faced issues that where as little as re-filming a scene to re- filming the whole film. After such experiences we learnt about counter measures e.g. filming only during the day unless you have an LED light. With the goal of creating a tense atmosphere in mind we had filmed in a dark room, this of course had negative effects. The bad lighting had meant that we were incapable of seeing the actors faces which in turn met the audience would find the film harder to relate to. The perfect amount of exposure of the light means that the entire scene can be shown clearly. This reinforces the idea of the friends scene being happy and bright, something only light can bring about. 3. In order for the film to appear professional and for any of the scenes to have an impact on the audience it is of great importance that the shooting be perfect, more specifically the camera must not be unsteady and be still at all times. Without a tripod it is clear that the filming was unsteady, what would be a tense scene was disrupted by the cameras shakiness and had resulted in it losing all tension. Furthermore, the tripods absence limits the types of shot we could perform Now with the tripod the difference can clearly be shown, there isnt the slightest hint in the camera being shaky enabling the audience to focus solely on the film. Furthermore, with the tripod we were capable of doing a tilt shot, a tricky yet effect shot which without the tripod would be increasingly hard to perform to a high standard. 4. Much like the steadiness of the camera, in order to maximise the potential of a scene the shot must be perfect; the focus of a shot is part of this criteria. Due to our lack of knowledge in using the camera, the preliminary had turned out unappealing but in the case of the final film after we had learnt from the film, there wasnt a single case where the camera was out of focus. The camera being out of focus causes several problems in the preliminary, in the case of this clip it is increasingly hard to see the actors face. The face of the character being blurred creates an enigma, an undesired effect as we intended to have him appear as a more serious character. This clip is a prime example of the kind of focus included in the final film. His face is shown perfectly and now the audience can continue enjoying the film without having to face unfocused scenes. 5. It never occurred to the group the importance of fonts, having used Arial in the opening we hadnt thought much of it. We learnt however that we could retrieve a font from a website and import it into the programme. We viewed a website called dafont.com which had a number of different fonts to choose from so that I could pick and choose which best suited our film. In regards to the fonts in our preliminary, the first problem visible is the choice of colour; the font is white on a light background making it harder for the audience to read. Secondly, the font doesnt match our genre, Arial is incapable of representing our intended tension. The font of our final film however flawlessly divulges the intended tension required of our genre. Furthermore, by placing the white font on a black background we had managed to make it as clear to the audience as possible 6. The transitioning skills used in the final film are responsible for making the film appear natural. There isnt any laps in the film and the switch in shots is logical so the audience will have no problems quickly processing what had happened. There is a slight mistake in the transitioning in regards to the preliminary, where he should still be seen as moving even tough we are switching shots, he is shown standing still first then moving, this creates an unnatural effect and displays a level of unprofessionalism. 7. After having used pinnacle several times and after having watched an incredible amount of movies with relation to our genre, we picked up several techniques which where capable of binging our movie to the next level. Here we learnt how to use the match on action technique in order to create continuity and also reinforce the idea that these guys are normal people playing cards, so that when we reveal they arent the audience is even more surprised. After having mastered Pinnacle, we where then capable of using higher class editing techniques such as earthquake, placing several clips on top of each other all in order to maximise the scenes potential in creating mass amounts of tension.
