When I think of NOURISH I think of fil l ing my life with good food, good thoughts, good people and great work. I mean let’s face it, we are what we eat and where we go and what we
become in life is ultimately determined by what we consistently do every day.
This is exactly why it is critical that we get the art of nourishing right; so we can think, feel and be at our best today, tomorrow, for ourselves, for our families and for the rest of our lives.
July celebrates the launch of my new book – NOURISH The Fit Woman’s Cookbook. It’s a collection of my food philosophies, recipes and a call out to all women to stop and
really think about how we choose to nourish and care for ourselves and our families.

hat if I told you that, in the recipe for a beautiful life, loving yourself is the key ingredient? Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh says, “to be beautiful means to be yourself. You don’t need to be accepted by others. You need to accept yourself.” In theory it sounds easy, yet if you’re anything like me, that critical inner voice (your ego) can be a sturdy opponent.
• PERHAPS SHE THINKS LOVING YOURSELF IS
INDULGENT?
• PERHAPS SHE THINKS SELF-LOVE IS SELFISH?
• PERHAPS SHE THINKS YOU’RE NOT WORTHY OF
LOVE - FROM OTHERS OR YOURSELF?
IT’S NOT. IT’S NOT. AND YOU ARE.When your inner critic strikes or the opinions of others block your way,
quieten your mind, draw your attention inward and listen to your inner
soul sister.
What is she saying? What does she want? Think of her as an honoured
guest, and feed her your love and attention.
Understand that self-love is a moment to practice. It’s not an exhaustive
goal that you tick off your list, only to move on. Cultivating a healthy love
and respect for yourself means making small, subtle shifts in perception.
Shifting the compass towards inner calm and confidence for a drenched-
in-happiness way of life.
When you nourish yourself with
kind thoughts like acceptance,
love and compassion, you’ll
naturally foster inner strength
and radiate a quiet confidence.
The value you place in the
opinions of others will melt away,
and by shining your own light, you'll unconsciously give others permission
to do the same. The best news? You can’t fail at loving yourself, because you
are love.
// LITTLE THINGS: Our culture defines personal worth by the
prestige of our jobs, cars and houses. The way I see it, we’ve got it all
wrong. Focus first on the little gratitudes already in your life, to truly
appreciate the ‘big stuff'.
// VALUE YOU: Applaud yourself for your general awesomeness.
The mind has a habit of magnetising towards the negative, self-deflating
ways of thinking. Build yourself up, buttercup, by celebrating the good
in you.
// BOUNDARIES: Set (and honour) personal boundaries. Switch off
the computer at 5pm to go and live your beautiful life. Spend quality,
tech-free time with friends and family and take your favourite gym or
craft classes, often.
// EXPERIENCE LIFE: Adopt a ‘can do’ attitude, fill your life with
rich experiences and paint each day a new colour.
// LAUGH, OFTEN: Spend time with people who make you laugh
from the rumbling depths of your belly.

all about understanding how nourishing your body with the colour of foods can make you feel. Nurturing your body with shades of colour creates the ambience in your soul and the sparkle in your skin. It’s about tapping into a food’s inherently vast properties
and understanding that foods can be used as an emotional apparatus.
1 HOW TO CREATE A FEELING OF SUNSHINE + HAPPINESS
ORANGES: Not only are they bright
in colour, but oranges contain
enormous amounts of vitamin C,
which has been known to combat
stress and be kind to your adrenals.
Added bonus: you can tote them
anywhere.
2HOW TO CREATE A FEELING OF COOL + CALM
BLUEBERRIES: They may seem
small but these berries utterly
beat the blues away. Packed with a
punch of antioxidants and vitamin
C making them total stress-busters.
Add to your morning granola or
green smoothie.
4HOW TO CREATE A FEELING OF BRIGHTNESS + CLARITY
MATCHA (a green tea powder):
Contains an amino acid called
theanine, which acts as a brain
booster. Drink two cups each day.
5HOW TO CREATE THAT GET-UP-AND-GLOW FEELINGEGGS: Sunny-side up or over easy, there’s no wonder sporty

3HOW TO CREATE A FEELING OF BIG + BOLD STRENGTH
PINEAPPLE: High in vitamin C and
digestive enzymes the help improve
the absorption of nutrients. Good to
know: they have anti-inflammatory
properties, which can help boost
the immune system.
A C T I V E L I V I N G 2 1 .
1 medium kumara (orange sweet potato) (400g), cut into 2cm (¾-inch) pieces
1 teaspoon cold-pressed extra-virgin coconut oil
1 small red onion (80g), sliced thinly
175g (5½ ounces) asparagus, trimmed, cut into 5cm (2-inch) lengths
1 tablespoon finely shredded fresh basil
6 organic free-range eggs
¼ cup (60ml) iced filtered water
50g (1½ ounces) soft goat’s cheese, crumbled
1 Preheat oven to 200°C/400°F.
2 Place kumara on baking-paper-lined oven tray; drizzle
with half the coconut oil. Roast about 30 minutes or until
browned lightly and tender.
3 Heat remaining coconut oil in a small frying pan (top
measurement about 20cm/8 inches); cook onion, stirring,
until softened. Add asparagus; cook, stirring, about 3
minutes or until almost tender.
4 Add roasted kumara to pan; sprinkle with basil, toss
gently. Whisk eggs and the water in a medium jug until
frothy. Pour the egg mixture into pan; sprinkle with cheese.
Cook frittata over medium-low heat, about 10 minutes or
until about halfway set. Place pan in oven; cook frittata
about 15 minutes or until browned and set.
5 Garnish with extra basil.

While today is the main event, preparing for
tomorrow’s success is an opportunity you
shouldn’t take for granted. As we set about
visualising our life goals, from landing that
dream job, running a marathon or travelling the world, simple every
day preparation is just as important to set yourself up for triumph.
One success we can certainly vouch for is preparing to flourish in
the nourishing department. Think of it like this: plan your meals for
the week ahead on Saturday, take a trip to the farmers markets or
grocer on Sunday, then spend the afternoon prepping. Come Monday,
you will wake up fresh eyed shouting “hello!” to a new week of
nourishment.
By practicing the “P” word, you are simply equipping yourself to
perform at your best. Trust us, there is no greater feeling than
marvelling in the fruits of your labour and seeing a neatly stacked
fridge ready with tomorrow’s meals. By being prepared and well
nourished, you will in turn see other aspects of your every day
flourish. See, the perks of being prepared are pretty powerful.
3 ADDITIONAL THINGS YOU CAN DO TONIGHT TO
PREPARE FOR TOMORROW
· Pick what you want to wear and lay it out – this will motivate you to
get up and get going without hesitation.
· Like you would your weekly meals, plan out your move activity and
let no excuse get in your way from that strength session.
· Write a to-do list before you go to bed - this will clear your mind for
a restful nights slumber and have you ready to conquer a new day.
Every day is a new beginning. Take a deep breath – you’ve got this!
