ROYAL ADELAIDE SHOW
Once again Oakbank has excelled in a number of
areas at the Royal Adelaide Show with Outstanding
performances in the sheep judging and handling as
well as significant prizes in the Grand Parade and
Photography.
The skill and effort that students put into their work was
obvious and acknowledged by the judges. Thank you
to the breeders for their donations and help in
preparing the animals, parents for supporting the
students at the competitions and expert volunteers that
spent time preparing the animals and instructing the
students.
There are a number of articles in this newsletter
detailing the accomplishments of the students.
Congratulations to the students and staff, particularly
Kerensa Greenfield, Mellissa Rogers and Brenton Hoskin,
who represented the school so well.
SAVE THE DATE
There are a number of community events that the
school is running in Term 4.
You are invited, along with the broader community to
the Wellbeing Fair on Saturday 16 November.
There will be a variety of stalls promoting community
activities, students running their own enterprises and a
selection of food and drink. Entry is FREE as this is not a
fundraising event.
The second major event is the 2019 Presentation Night.
Please join us to celebrate the graduation of our Year 6
and Year 12 students as well as acknowledging the
students that have achieved across a range of
academic, social, sporting and leadership fields.
SATAC APPLICATIONS
Year 12 students applying to attend University or TAFE in
2020 need to have completed their applications online
by the end of this term.
This is the first but important milestone that minimises the
application fee and still allows for flexibility in choices
after this date.
If you are unsure of the process, or whether to apply at
all, please contact Kirsty Rogers at the school.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
ROYAL ADELAIDE SHOW So finishes a very long 8 days at the Royal Show!
Melissa, John, Michelle and I had 49 kids, 3 steers, 6
sheep and 16 goats there over the course of the show,
in Steers, Junior Judging, Merino Wethers and Goat
Wether competitions.
In our Steer competitions, the students worked well
together, showing team work, initiative and problem
solving skills. The students were remarked upon for their
productivity, helpfulness and enthusiasm. A massive
thank you to John Higginson, Melissa Rogers, Michelle
Bull, our breeders and volunteers for all their hard work
with getting the steers and steer team ready for the
show. Nickolas Leech received a ribbon in the
Experienced Handlers Competition and all the students
enjoyed a lecture on the Red Meat Industry.
In the Merino competitions, Melissa and the sheep
students worked feverishly to ensure the sheep were
presented well for the judges. Our sheep stood up well
to the other schools, with our scores being well within
the range expected.
Tom and Jackie Megson worked well in the Junior
Judging Competitions, with a few curve ball questions
being thrown Tom’s way (according to him).
The goat team did well this year. We got a 4th place for
Best Presented School in the Grand Parade, 4th/5th/6th
in the classes and a 4th for Handlers by Alexia Miller. The kids were very very impressed and stoked with their
efforts. Our new breeder was really happy with all our
hard work and the kids’ enthusiasm for their goats and
working together as a team.
A massive thank you to Michelle Bull for her hard work
throughout the year as well as Melissa and John for
their support of the teams at the Show, it means
everything to our kids.
Overall, the Ag Club has been a hardworking team this
year, made up of kids, staff, breeders and volunteers.
We couldn’t have had as much success as we
achieved without the support of these people.
Thank you to those who have helped feed on week-
ends (Michelle and Graham Bull and Bruce), and for
teachers who gave me children when the animals and
students needed more work.

LIGHTNING CARNIVAL On Monday 2 September the Year 5/6/7 students
participated in a Sports Carnival at St Francis De Sales
College in Mt Barker. The sports played were football,
netball, soccer and basketball.
We were lucky to have the assistance of 8 High School
students who coached and umpired our various teams on
the day. For two weeks prior to the carnival the High School
students ran training sessions to impart skills and to
encourage the students to participate.
On the day everything went very well and the students had
a terrific time. We would like to thank Mr Wissell, the High
School students and parents for their help on the day.
Football Coaches: Darcy Lucas, Tyson Harris Players: Tyson Fox, Danilo Bettio, Callum Van de Velde,
Jayden Barratt, Zac Pfeiffer, Tyson McKenner, John
Hughes, Ari Van de Velde and Joseph Giorgi.
Girls Soccer Coach: Dylan Polley Players: Olivia Gould, Jasmin Knott, Lucy Golding,
Matisse Mack, Summer Peters, Zoe Osborne, Anna
Burford and Alia Windebank.
Netball Team 1 Coach: Maddy Erickson Players : Alexia Miller, Jessie Orbell, Jamie Gordan,
Angel Chiarieri, Charlotte Casement, Maritoni
Monsalud, Bianca Schneider and Hope Bellchambers.
On Monday we played
three games of football. We
won the first game which
made us very happy. Every
one played their best. Our
coaches, Darcy and Tyson,
encouraged us and placed
us in the various positions.
All in all we had a good
day.
At the carnival the Year
5 / 6 / 7 s o c c e r t e a m
participated in three
games. Every one played a
fair game and used good
team work. Dylan was our
coach and he encouraged
us from the side lines.
Netball on Monday was a
good experience. We won
our first game and came
really close in the others.
Thank you to Maddy
Erickson for coaching us
and encouraging us from
the sidelines.
On Monday we had Netball.
We all had so much fun. The
team was very supportive and
encouraged each other.
Although we lost every game
we still tried our best and had
a good time. Thank you to our
coach Chermia Elston for all
the hard work she put in to
teach us the skills to play
better.
The boys basketball team
had more fun at the
training sessions prior to
the carnival, as their were
more boys actually playing.
On the day, the team was
one player short but we were
ably helped by players from
football, soccer and netball.
Thank you to Jett and Nash
for coaching and umpiring
on the day. The boys tried
their hardest and enjoyed
themselves.
Our team played four games
at the Sport Carnival. We
were one short, so our fill in
came from the football team.
All the players tried really
hard to win. Unfortunately
we lost each game by 2
goals. Everyone had a good
day and were tired at the
end of the day. THANK YOU
TO Oliver for coaching us
and umpiring some of our
games.
YEAR 10 BOYS BASKETBALL
On Wednesday September 11, Oakbank Area School
sent a team of boys to Birdwood High School to
compete against them in Year 10 Boys Basketball.
The team was a combination of boys across Year's 8 to
10 and they were pumped to perform well after a few
training sessions together, back in the Oakbank Gym
at lunchtimes.
Unfortunately, this outlook was squashed in the first two
minutes of the game when Birdwood shot two 3
pointers and two 2 pointers to race to a 10 point lead
in the blink of an eye before our boys knew what was
going on.
To Oakbank's credit, the boys regrouped and
consolidated, getting this lead down to 7 points late in
the 3rd quarter before finally losing by 15pts. Those first
two minutes turned out to be pretty important in the
context of the final score.
Those players who particularly stood out in the game
were Brodie, Liam and Oscar. As a Year 8, Jesse should
also be commended on the way he competed
against older opposition.

9 A SIDE AFL COMPETITION On Tuesday 3 September, Oakbank Area School ventured
to Callington Oval to participate in a 9-a-side AFL
competition for Year 8/9 Boys and Girls.
Other schools in attendance were Heathfield H/S, Murray
Bridge H/S, Birdwood H/S and St Francis College.
Unfortunately our boys didn't win a game, but were very
close to Birdwood, only going down by a goal. Our girls
were more successful, wining 2 of their games.
Our participants were limited in their knowledge and skill
level in AFL, but were massive in terms of commitment,
displaying a positive attitude and demonstrating
outstanding sportsmanship and fair play. They were all
great Ambassadors for Oakbank Area School.
A big thank you to the parents who travelled to Callington
to support the teams and also to SSO Mikayla Nicholson
for her management of the girls team.

FINAL NOTICE
Payment of 2019 Materials & Services Fees
Thank you to all the families who
have paid their 2019 Materials and
Services Fees.
The Materials and Services Fees are
used to provide a range of
classroom consumables and
services to all Reception to Year 12
children who attend this school.
The non-payment of these fees puts
the school’s finances under very
real strain and adds to the pressure
for charges to be increased in
future years.
As the 2019 Materials and Services
fees are now OVERDUE, FINAL
NOTICES have been posted home
to families who have not yet paid
their school fees.
Parents are advised that unless you
have a payment instalment plan in
place, all outstanding 2019 debts
will be transferred to DfE Central
Debt Collection Services at the end
of Term 3.
