Uses of Lonitab Tablets

Clearsky Pharmacy

Lonitab (Minoxidil Tablets) is used with other drugs to treat high blood pressure (hypertension)that is symptomatic or associated with target organ damage and is not manageable with maximum therapeutic doses of a diuretic plus two other antihypertensive medicines. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Minoxidil works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily.

Storage Instructions

Clearsky Pharmacy

Lonitab (Minoxidil Tablets) have to be stored at controlled room temperature i.e. 25C (77F) away from moisture. Keep this as well as all other medicines away from children and pets.

Warnings

Clearsky Pharmacy

Lonitab (Minoxidil Tablets) can cause a significant retention of salt and water, producing dependent oedema; puffiness of face, eyes or hands, neck vein distention, hepatojugular reflux. Reflex tachycardia and possibly angina pectoris can develop in patients with unsuspected coronary artery disease, unless protected against Lonitab-induced tachycardia with beta-adrenergic blocking drugs or other suitable sympathetic nervous system suppressants. The blood pressure lowering effect of Lonitab is additive to concurrent antihypertensive agents. The interaction of Lonitab with agents that produce orthostatic hypotension may result in excessive blood pressure reduction.Lonitab is not recommended for the treatment of patients with labile or mild hypertension.

Warnings

Clearsky Pharmacy

In patients having condition of pulmonary hypertension associated with mitral valve regurgitation, caution is necessary to avoid excessive tachycardia. This drug must not be used for extended therapy in hypertension readily ameliorated by surgery.Elongation, thickening and enhanced pigmentation of fine body hair (hypertrichosis), unassociated with endocrine abnormalities, is seen in most patients.Approximately 60% of patients exhibit ECG alterations in the direction and magnitude of their T-waves immediately after starting therapy with this medicine. There have been multiple reports of pericarditis occurring in association with this medication.Patients who have had a myocardial infarction should be only treated with Lonitab after a stable post-infarction state has been established.

The recommended Minoxidil overdose treatment is intravenous administration of normal saline. Phenylephrine, angiotensin II, vasopressin and dopamine, which reverse the effects of Lonitab (Minoxidil Tablets), should only be used if inadequate perfusion of a vital organ is evident

Lonitab (Minoxidil Tablets) has been classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category C. Controlled studies in animals have not revealed evidence of teratogenicity, but reduced conception rates and an increased incidence of fetal absorption have been observed in rabbits given 5 times the usual human dose. Minoxidil tablets are only recommended for use during pregnancy in case there are no alternatives and benefit outweighs risk.
