Longevity of restoration is considered as one of the most important issue in operativedentistry. Several factors such as, loss of adhesion, marginal discoloration andsecondary caries are said responsible for early loss of restoration. To overcome theabove mentioned problems, as well as to improve the adhesion or bonding to enameland/ or dentin have advanced considerably since 1950. These techniques are used forthe restorations of carious cavities, non carious cervical lesion (abrasion, erosion, abfraction), aesthetic correction of dental anomalies (shape, position, dimension, shade) and repair of fractured restoration and others. Giomer is hybrid of wordsglass ionomer and composite. These are relatively new type of material. They are alsoknown as PRG (pre reacted glass ionomer composites) composites. Giomer haveproperties of glass ionomers (fluoride release and fluoride recharge) and resincomposites (excellent aesthetics, easy polishability and bio-compatibility).
