Recycle, Recycle, Recycle

Year 6 Camp

On the ninth of October the year six students started the journey to Geraldton. When we finally got there we were greeted

by the camp manager, Peter Salleo. The first activity we did was orienteering. We had to find our way around the camp

school and tick the locations off on our paper. Dinner was pasta bake and salad.

Throughout the week we did lots of awesome activities that included kayaking, archery, team games, low ropes, boot

scooting, fishing, bike riding and sand boarding.

The meals were fantastic and all of the instructors were very nice and helpful. Every morning we had dorm inspections. We

had three altogether. The girls won twice and the boys only won once!

The whole experience was amazing and we all wish we were still there! Thankyou very much to Miss O’Halloran, Mrs Ryniker

and Mr Bishop for being such great coordinators!

A Battery Recycling Bin located in the library for all household batteries. Please no car batteries into this one. These can be

dropped off at the Balcatta Recycling Centre adjacent to the tip.

Empty Oral Care Products and packaging can also be dropped off at the library. We are entering a competition called Bright

Smile where we have a chance to win $1000 and a recycled park bench for the school. Ask your friends, neighbours uncles

and aunties to save these items from landfill and bring them into school. We have until the 28th October to collect as many

of these items as we can.

Beauty Products Recycling Program. Another great opportunity to save items from landfill and put us in with a chance to

win. Think shampoo/conditioner containers, lipstick/chapstick tubes, sunscreen & perfume bottles,

the list is endless. We could win a playground simply by recycling used beauty products! Thanks

to Garnier, one playground made of recycled beauty products is up for grabs to the pre-school or

primary school that earns the most Playground Credits between 9 October and 8 December 2017.

Let’s make this winner Glendale PS! Until the box arrives all products can be dropped off at the

school office.

Thank you for all your support this year in helping save our environment and in educating your

children in this area. Small steps have the potential for BIG outcomes.

St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal

The Christmas season is a time when families come together to celebrate and to share. Unfortunately there are some

families in our community who don’t have the opportunity to experience Christmas where there is food on the table.

Glendale Primary School is supporting the Vinnies Christmas Appeal, to help make a positive contribution to those less

fortunate than us. There is a collection box in each classroom and we encourage every child to bring in an item of non-

perishable food to help create Christmas hampers. Suggestions for hamper items include those listed below, and more

ideas can be seen on the side of the boxes or on the noticeboard outside the old admin office. NB: Please do not include

any chocolate items as refrigeration facilities for storage do not exist.

We will be presenting the hampers to a representative from the St Vincent de Paul Society at an assembly later in the

term. This will allow students to feel a sense of pride, seeing their efforts help others.

Thank you for your support in this worthy cause.

School’s back into full swing again for Term 4, but perhaps one thing that’s also returned is the after school attitude. Kids

often have a great day at school only to return home with tears, frustration and boundary pushing.

It takes a great deal of emotional and mental work to follow the rules throughout the day, especially for little kids. When

things get hard, we fall apart on the people we feel safest with. Kids do the same thing. It’s a good thing that your child feels

safe enough to fall apart at home but, as a parent, it can be hard to deal with. If that sounds familiar, here are 5 sure-fire

ways to stop the after school attitude from Messy Motherhood.

Greet Without the Questions

When you see your child after a long day of school, you want to know about their day so you ask lots of questions. If

they’ve had a hard day this can stress them out. Instead greet them with statements like: “Hey, it’s good to see you again.”

and then ask if they want to tell you about their day now or at dinner. Connect and ask, but do it at a time when your child

is ready to talk.

Feed Them

Hangry (angry because you’re hungry) is a real thing. Just assume that your child is hungry when they get home and have

healthy snacks that will give them energy and fill them up. When your child’s stomach is full, they are less likely to be

frustrated and angry.

Allow for Downtime

Give kids time to be kids. Children need to play, it’s how they process their world and handle their stress. What is it that

your child needs? Is he an introvert and needs time alone to decompress? Is your child a mover and she needs to run, hop,

and play? Whatever their play needs are, give them time and space.

Be Consistent with Rules and Consequences

Be consistent with your family rules and consequences. Children thrive in situations when they know what’s expected of

them, so keep as much of the home life as normal as possible, including your discipline techniques. Make sure your

consequences are related to the crime and that your child knows what happens when a rule is broken.

Connect and Reflect

Find a way to spend one-on-one time with your child. This doesn’t mean hours of your time, 10-15 minutes will do. Put

down your phone, step away from your to do list, and focus on your child. Be present, to play, to connect. Let your child

decide how to spend this time and enjoy it with them.

Hopefully the tips above will help your family with the transition from home to school so they don’t have to struggle, and

you don’t get frustrated.

Information to Properties Around The School Site Regarding Our Scheduled Building Condition Assessment

Building Condition Assessments (BCS) are carried out at all schools at regular intervals as part of the Department of

Education’s overall asset management strategy.

In addition to the inspection of building internals, drones will be used for the first time to provide footage of roof condition

and coverings, including penetration points, box gutters and safety anchor points. All of the drone footage will be given to

the Department of Finance’s Building Management and Works and drones will only be used out of school hours, before

8.00am and after 4.00pm weekdays, on weekends or during school holidays.

Drone operators are required to comply with the necessary insurances and certifications including:

Current Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) certification

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) operator certification

Please therefore do not be alarmed if you see drones flying over the school building during this period.
