Registration Procedure
1. New Students-Complete the admissions process at
http://www.lonestar.edu/admissions.htm
Current Students - Proceed to Step 2
2. Submit Unofficial Transcript
• Email Angela Martin (Angela.R.MartinPlonestaredu) or Rachel Trackey
([email protected] ) with your student id OR full name and birth date
to request that your Unofficial Transcript be submitted to Chief Griffin, Program
Director. All academic prerequisites must be met before registration to the
academy will be approved.
3. Complete the Registration Packet forms (Background Check, Health History, and
Physical Examination).
4. Preliminary Visit
• Schedule an appointment with Chief David Griffin ([email protected] ) to
submit your completed packet forms.
• Once Chief Griffin confirms that you meet the qualifications for the program, he will
provide you with a signed Registration Form.
5. Registration
• Make an appointment with Angela Martin, Rachel Trackey, Mallory Snodgrass
(Mallory.SnodgrassPlonestaredu) or meet with any advisor in Building C to
complete registration.
• You must have your signed Registration Form to complete the process.
• There is no separate application process for the academy. Courses are filled on a
first come first serve basis. Registration for the Fall/Spring Academy will begin on
April 10th. Enrollment is limited to 24 students per academy. There is one day
academy and one night academy. Please remember there are a limited number of
spots available.
• To maintain academy enrollment, please be sure to submit payment by the
deadline to avoid being dropped from the courses. If you are dropped for
nonpayment, there is no guarantee that you will be able to re-register. For more

Lone Star-Montgomery's Fire Academy trains recruits for fire departments throughout Montgomery and surrounding counties.
Located at the Woodlands Emergency Training Center, the recruits have access to cutting edge equipment and experienced faculty. The program prepares students for service in urban, rural and suburban settings. In addition to firefighting skills, the program works with students to develop professional skills. Students graduating from the LSC-M Fire Academy are prepared to take the Firefighter Certification Exam through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.

Prerequisites • Completion of MATH 0306 • Completion of ENGL 0305 and ENGL 0307 or ENGL 0309 • Or satisfactory scores on placement exams
Notes Your scores must be approved by the division counselor before you register.
English and Math requirements must be met before you begin any of your Fire Certification Courses. If your scores are not within the acceptable range, you can take courses to meet the requirements.
Fire Certification Course Program of Studies
Lone Star College-Montgomery Fire Academy will begin on August 26, 2013 and will end in mid May 2014. This is a two semester course load, approximately nine months.

General Physical Fitness Requirements • Must be able to run 1.5 miles under 13:07 minutes. • Must be able to lift heavy objects - approximately 150 lbs. • Must fully participate in a required physical agility course while attending the
academy. • Must be in good general health. • Your weight must be in proportion to your height.
Fire Certification Course Cost - Fall/Spring Academy Costs*
Tuition (In-District) $1,700 Tuition (Out-of-District) $3,500 Books $250 Uniform $325 Fire Fighter Gear (new)** $1,200 Fire Fighter Gear Rental (9 months)** $695 /+$200 returnable deposit
*All costs are approximate. A list of vendors is included in this packet. It will be up to the cadet as to where he/she wishes to purchase the required equipment. More information on tuition is available on the Lone Star College website. ** Proof of inspection must be provided.
Mandatory Orientation Prior to the beginning of the Fire Academy all students will be required to attend a mandatory orientation. Course materials will be covered, and program expectations will be reviewed. Orientation dates will be July 23, 2013 and July 24, 2013. Orientation time will start at 7:00pm at The Woodlands Emergency Training Center. You must attend one of the orientation dates. The program director must be notified by the student if he/she is unable to make orientation. A scheduled meeting with the director will have to be made prior to the start of the semester if orientation is missed.

Instructions for Background Check Process Emergency Medical Services Professions Program
Students who have been conditionally accepted must complete a criminal background check. Students are responsible for completing the background application process, paying all fees and ensuring that a copy is submitted to the appropriate program director. Additional background checks may be required, if a student is convicted of a felony or misdemeanor while enrolled in a LSCS healthcare program.
The decision to allow a student to perform clinicals is the sole discretion of the facility or service where the student is assigned for their clinical experience. The college holds no responsibility for finding a student with a positive background check a facility or service willing to accept them. Students must be aware that Texas Department of Health and Human Services conducts background checks on all applicants for certification and failure to disclose information can result in permanent prevention of certification by the State.
