The Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) This course prepares participants for the Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test – an internationally recognised qualification from the University of Cambridge designed for teachers of English to speakers of other languages (ESOL) at all stages of education – Primary, Secondary, and Adult. Minimum level: Intermediate (B1) Minimum age: 20 Maximum class size: 14 Number of lessons: 24 per week (20 hours) plus some class observation Course duration: 2 weeks Course dates for 2020: 13th January – 24th January Exam date: 25th January Course details The course concentrates on the study of ‘teaching knowledge’ – it is not a practical course and so there is no actual teaching involved, although participants may observe Wimbledon School of English teachers. It is ideal for those who have recently started teaching or are considering it as a career, but it also useful for experienced teachers. What is included in TKT? This course covers a variety of concepts related to language, language use and the background to and practice of language learning and teaching. It is divided into 4 modules: Module one: Language and background to teaching and learning

• Describing language and language skills • Background to language learning • Background to language teaching

Module three: Managing the teaching and learning process

• Teachers’ and learners’ language in the classroom

• Classroom management

Module two: Lesson planning and resources for the language teacher

• Planning and preparing lessons • Selection and use of resources and materials

• Key concepts of CLIL • Planning and strategies to support a CLIL

approach • Lesson delivery and assessment in CLIL
