powerful and can

inflict more

WAYS YOU CAN HELP...

AN EXCITING DEVELOPMENT FOR US...

GREAT NEW BOOKS with RESCUE PITS

this wonderful breed. In this

process, our name will be

changing to SAVING GRACE PIT

location will be the same, we

needed to be able to separate the

business aspect of Lollipop from

attend more social events

that requires this status.

places such as PetsMart

Grace. We will also have a new

website called:

www.savinggracepitbullrescue.org.

You will find our adoptable dogs,

contact information as well as

several great resources that will

help familiarize and educate

yourself on the pit bull.

RIGHT: The book cov-

ers the Vick case from

beginning to end, ex-

plaining how Vick and

his cohorts were caught,

detailing the abysmal

treatment of the animals

and examining the diffi-

cult path to rehabilita-

tion—and the ultimate

triumph—of dozens of

abused dogs.

LEFT: This is a story of a

puppy brought back from

the brink of death, and the

family he adopted. In 2002,

Larry Levin and his twin

sons, Dan and Noah, took

their terminally ill cat to

the Ardmore Animal Hos-

pital outside Philadelphia

to have the beloved pet put

to sleep. What would begin

as a terrible day suddenly

got brighter as the ugliest

dog they had ever seen--

one who was missing an ear

and had half his face

NEECIE’S ADOPTION STORY

P A G E 3 V O L U M E 1 , I S S U E 1

Neecie was a recent rescue with a great personality. A sweet girl named Lauren adopted her. She had the following to say about her: “Neecie has been great.

She hasn't had any accidents in the house and is very obedient. She is eager to please and I have already

taught her to sit and lay down. She does very well on her walks and has shown no aggression at all when introduced to other dogs. She also loves to follow me everywhere I go

in the house and lays down next to my feet when I'm watching tv. She has also done great with crate- training, although she hated going in at first. Her favorite toy is the rope toy and she will sprint around the yard with it. It's actually really funny! She has been such a sweet dog and loves everyone, and loves licking. She is definitely the companion I was looking for!”

II. In 2000, 13 pit bulls were

involved in 8 fatal attacks. That is

roughly ONE dog out of 204,000 or

0.000385% of the pit bull

population.

III. It is estimated that 5,000,000

dogs per year are killed in shelters.

Since in many places pit bulls make

up 30-50% of the shelter population,

and are less likely to be considered

for placement than any other breed,

I. Although there are no accurate

or census records for dogs in the

U.S., in some populations pit bulls

are estimated to comprise some 30-

40% of the dog population,.

Considering that there were an

estimated 53,000,000 dogs in the

U.S., and assuming that pit bulls

make up 10% of that population,

there would be approximately 5.3

million pit bulls in our society.

guessing that 25% of

those dogs killed is a

reasonable estimate.

Therefore, it can be

assumed that perhaps

1.25 million pit bulls

are killed

per year.

(if you need education material

on this subject, we can provide

it for you). Indoor homes are

always preferred. There is

always a possibility of a home

check to ensure these dogs are

placed into a loving and healthy

situation. Please see our con-

tact information to get an

application or to set-up an

appointment to meet one of

the dogs. All available dogs can

be viewed on our petfinder

website. Also, please contact

us if you ever have a pit bull

related question that you think

we can help you with. We

want to help our fellow pit bull

owners keep these dogs in

their forever homes.

We have an adoption

application that must be filled

out. Once the application is

approved, there is a $100

adoption fee which covers our

dogs spay/neuter, rabies

vaccination, heartworm/tick

screen and microchip. All dogs

must be kept in a secure,

fenced yard and not tethered

before she was going to be

euthanized. They scanned

her microchip and sure

enough it went back to the

girl that adopted her from

us. There is a reason Sandy

Kenya was originally

adopted several years ago

from Lollipop, but her

owner decided to give her

up because she was moving

out of state. She was

supposed to return her to

us, but the owner claimed

she ended up finding a

"loving home" for her. A

short time passed and she

was picked up by Lubbock

Animal Control in a hotel

room where she had been

abandoned for days. It just

so happened that Sandy saw

her in the shelter right

saw her that day and she

was rescued once again. She

came from an irresponsible

breeder, but she was one of

the lucky few who had the

experience of a loving

home for most of her life.

She is now in desperate

need of a loving home again

where she can finish her life

in a safe, peaceful place. If

you are willing to provide

this for her or are willing to

foster her so she does not

have to live the end of her

life in the kennel please

contact us.

petfinder website shown below:

We are a trio of friends that have bonded to-

gether through our love for dogs. Within our group, we have a groomer/boarding kennel owner, a vet tech and a pharmacist with a love

for animals. We have multiple conformation and obedience titles between us, which gives us a great insight in to the soundness of tempera-

ment and structure in the dogs we rescue. We live in a city that has a huge over population issue in dogs, and a lack of city budget to help

remedy the situation. Our local shelter does the best they can, but are in constant need of outside help to get the huge number of dogs, especially pit bulls, that come through their

doors get placed. We are a rescue contact for our city shelter and do the best we can to help these deserving dogs get homes. We have no

outside funding, so we are only able to take on a few dogs at a time due to budget restraints. We want the dogs we rescue to end up in for-

ever homes; therefore, we are particular about where these dogs go.
