About the Event Itself Chongqing Tianyuan Chemical Industry Plant, headquartered in Chongqing Jiangbei District, experienced chlorine leak in the evening of April 15, and partial explosion in the early morning of April 16. At 5:57 p.m. on April 16, reporters of Xinhua News Agency on the site of chlorine leak in Chongqing Tianyuan Chemical Industry Plant suddenly heard a huge sound of explosion, afterwards, firefighters rushed into the factory. According to the scene firefighters, at least 9 people missing and dead and 3 injured, 150,000 local people were evacuated by April 16.

April 16, 2004 Today, a very strange thing happened, the

But there will be no additional lesions in tomorrow, it is fairly good.

About the Chlorine Leakage

At room temperature, chlorine is a pale yellow-green, highly toxic gas with a pungent odor. Slightly heavier than air, if without wind effect, it will be for a long time hidden in the low-lying area. Chlorine has high chemical activity, and can react with a variety of chemical substances and organisms. Chlorine can be liquefied under certain pressure to reduce the storage footprint. Large quantities of industrial chlorine are often obtained by brine electrolysis. Since liquefied chlorine is pure chlorine obtained from pressurized, its stored pressure, combined with its chemical reactivity, so that chlorine gas must be stocked in specially designed high-density tanks.   Because of its chemical reactivity, chlorine is highly toxic and can damage body organs and systems. Its toxicity is far greater than that of hydrogen sulfide gas. A small amount of chlorine can cause respiratory problems and stimulate the throat, nasal and tonsil inflammation, leading to eye irritation, stinging, tearing, and can cause chest tightness and respiratory syndrome, trigger asthma patients in difficulty breathing, and even shock. Chlorine into the blood can have chemosynthesis with many substances, causing nerve dysfunction, killing and destroying blood cells and causing night sweat, headache, vomiting and stomach cramps, liver damage, even causing severe systemic edema, electrolyte imbalance. Chlorine has strong corrosion and damage effect on skin, clothing, etc.

Large doses of chlorine can cause hypoxia of rapid poisoning within two minutes. Unceasing bleeding, face grim, the scene is very scary. The person with serious chlorine poisoning may be left seriously under organic dysfunction, the long-term lack of good physical recovery; some people may be severely paralyzed, leading to permanent disability.
