A Note From Our Principal...
Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,
It is incredible that we are already in a place that we must say fare-well. I have been so honored and proud to serve you the last three years as principal of Locust Grove Middle School. This eighth grade class has made an incredible impact on me and the community of Locust Grove.
In their three years, this class has been champions or county runner-ups in almost a dozen different sports, they have sent several winning sub-missions to the region Literacy Day competition, solar car back-to-back championships, History Day National Qualifiers, Spelling Bee Champi-on, a presentation to local school and government officials to change the traffic flow of downtown Locust Grove, donating thousands of dollars to local charities and Relay for Life campaigns, science fair winners, mul-tiple No Place For Hate qualifications, band and chorus superior rat-ings, and two terrific full stage productions of Aladdin and The Little Mermaid.
The awards and honors mentioned above are the tangible results of many hours of hard work and dedication. The more intangible items are where the real impact happens, however. The hearts, the minds, the work ethic, the love, the support, the peer help, the leadership, the com-passion, the innovation, and the relationship with the community around them is not only a direct reflection of terrific parenting, but as-pects that make Locust Grove Middle School the best middle school imag-inable. This class will be sorely missed.

National History Day Honors
After many months of research, hard work, and careful planning, three of our own are headed to Washington D.C. for the National History Day competition. Sean Prisk, Alex Szymanski, and Jasmine Hughley made it past the school, region, and now state levels with their National History Day projects, placing first at each level. Jasmine advanced for her depiction of Conndoleeza Rice’s life in her one man drama, and Alex and Sean took first place for their impressive website detailing the horrors of the disease pellagra and how Dr. Goldberger found its cure. The three will be traveling to Washington D.C. for the National competition in June. Laura Szymanski, their teacher, has worked with them through the entire journey and will be accompanying them to the national competition.

What’s happening in our classrooms?
A group of students went to Home Depot Distribution Center on Greenwood Industrial Parkway. This center mainly imports and exports goods to our local Home Depot stores in the surrounding areas. The students were able to witness all the fast-paced environment has to offer, including:
Learning events to managers and associates including classroom training, e-learning and others
Stretching and exercises so that associates are able to do the physical work required
Forklift training and operation
Internal growth opportunities

Classroom Happenings, continued...
Mr. McKinney’s and Ms. Shannon’s classes have been exploring alternative energy sources. First, their students created small model homes using any materials they could find to try and see how warm they could get the inside of the home with just the sun. The students then, with the help of Central Georgia EMC, built small solar powered cars that they raced against each other with.
