82nd Annual Lockhart Chamber of Commerce Banquet
The 82nd Annual Chamber Banquet was again at capacity at the Em-bassy Suites Hotel, Spa & Conference Center in San Marcos, Texas on Saturday, January 28th. This was the seventh year for the Chamber to hold this annual event in San Marcos due to attendance. The event was dedicated in honor of our beloved friend, Mr. Les Harrison. This was the first year at the Embassy that we offered a buffet-style dinner, and it was a big success. Many of our guests expressed posi-tive comments, so we’ll be bringing back the buffet next year. After welcoming our guests and invocation, the program began with a status report from Victor Garza of the Greater San Marcos Partner-ship, followed by Mayor Lew White. Pertinent information was shared with Lockhart business owners and we’re looking to expand upon those status reports for next year’s banquet. Then, Rebecca Pulliam took the stage and spoke about a year of growth that took place at the Chamber under the leadership of the 2016 Chair, Keith Hester. Mrs. Pulliam then presented Mr. Hester with a plaque for his year of service as Chairman of the Board. Mr. Hester spoke of the accomplishments in 2016 at the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce, and also recognized the efforts and contributions of outgoing Board Di-rector Hoppy Haden. The program continued with the introduction of the 2017 Chair, Re-becca Pulliam , who outlined her goals for the coming year. She then introduced the 2017 Board of Directors: Donald Schneider, Chair-elect; Keith Hester, Past Chair; Angela Meitler , Vice Chair, Media & Public Relations; Bobby Herzog, Vice Chair, Business & Economic Development; Anice LeBeouf, DC, Vice Chair, Community Develop-ment; Abel De La Cruz, Vice Chair, Membership Development; Clint Roberts, Director; Mike Capello, Director; Clint Mohle, Director; Robert Ellis, Director; Ron Peterson, Director; and Donald Burdett, Director. Mrs. Pulliam also talked about the chamber’s Lockhart branding and promotion campaign, the Caldwell County Leadership Program, and the new “Annual Sponsorship Packages” being offered by the chamber, which includes sponsorships for the 45th Annual Chisholm Trail Roundup, Rodeo & Music festival – Lockhart’s larg-est tourism event of the year. Outgoing past chairman, Hoppy Haden, had the honor of presenting Spirit Awards.

Caldwell County Leadership Program
The Caldwell County Leadership Program is a means to cultivate community and business leaders in Caldwell County. The program identifies and encourages current and potential leaders by acquainting them with local needs and building an understanding of how individual talents can work together to shape a more successful community, with an emphasis on proactive responsible growth and economic development. Participants are given unique insights to city, county and state level or-ganizations which allow them to build a more in-depth perspective of their own community’s opportunities and challenges. Participants also receive training in the art of leadership itself, strengthening their ability to make a positive impact at home, work and in the public forums. Applications can be obtained by contacting the Lockhart Chamber of Commerce, 512-398-2818. Space for this program is limited, so apply now.
The deadline for newsletter inserts is the 25th of each month and is only $20. For more information about monthly inserts, call us at 512-398-2818.
PRESIDENT’SReport
Attention All Future Potential Community Leaders: The Lockhart Chamber of Commerce will be offering the CALDWELL COUNTY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM beginning in the Fall of 2017. The program is open to anyone, of any age, of any background, that aspires to lead our city, county or even state, or a civic or non-profit organization in a responsible, pro-active approach to enhance economic development. Forget the stereotypical leadership image of a buttoned-up per-son in a gray suit hauling around a briefcase. Today, standout leaders come in all shapes and sizes. Research indicates what really matters is that leaders are able to create enthusiasm, em-power people, and be inspiring to those around them. That’s a tall order. However, as different as leaders are today, there are some great things leaders do every day. 1. Face Challenges: Great leaders are brave enough to face
up to challenging situations and deal with them honestly. Regular communications with a group informing them of good news and how you are responding to challenges goes a long way with your constituents and their level of trust in you.
2. Win Trust: Constituents are more loyal and enthusiastic when they trust the leader of their organization. Let them know you are interested in their personal and professional successes. Treat everyone with respect, and always be honest.
3. Be Authentic: If you’re not a suit, don’t try to be one. People will know you’re pretending if you try otherwise. Use your personal strengths to enhance your leadership style and stay true to yourself.
4. Earn Respect: When you conduct yourself in an ethical way and model the traits you wish to see in others, you earn the respect of those around you.
5. Stay Curious: Good leaders remain intellectually curious and committed to learning. They’re inquisitive and always look for new ideas, insights and information. The best leaders understand that innovation and new approaches can come from many places.
There are many, many individuals I know personally who as-cribe to the above list. If you’re still reading this, YOU ARE one of those people! YOU have what it takes to be a successful leader. Which is why I strongly urge you to be a participant of our very first Caldwell County Leadership Program. All the necessary skills, tools, motivation, connections, etc., will be made available to you to ensure both your and our success! Please contact me at the Chamber office for any questions, and to obtain an application. Space is limited to the first 20 partici-pants, so don’t wait! Angela Rawlinson President/CEO
