4 I LOCKED & LOADED APRIL2014

Hello to you all,

Firstly, I would like to sincerely thank-you all for your fantastic support and understanding through what has been our biggest project in over a decade; the implementation of our new ERP System, Microsoft Dynamics – AX. There is a detailed update in this issue of Locked & Loaded from John Ikin, our ASSA ABLOY ERP Project Leader, outlining the current status as well as the benefits of the new system – so I won’t go into too much detail here other than to say again, a very sincere thank you to you all for your understanding. I am extremely confident that all the teething issues are now behind us.

So what does this year hold? Well for us here at ASSA ABLOY Australia, the first three months has seen a terrific amount of growth drop through; which obviously paints a great start to the year and provides a lot of optimism for the remainder.

What we are seeing since we closed off 2013 is a more buoyant commercial market with orders received and specification activity certainly well up, home building is really starting to bounce back with a substantial amount of builders now converting to Lockwood; delivering some very pleasing results and of course Retail also playing a positive part.

As we all have read recently in the news regarding the demise of Australian manufacturing and the thousands of job losses that follow, I can confirm to you that our commitment to continue to manufacture in Australia is as strong as ever. This is something that we as an organisation are extremely proud of as we celebrate our 80th year of manufacturing in this country.

In 2014 there will be a great amount of activity that you, our customers will see with not only our ongoing programme with Lockwood V8 Supercar Racing, but also an exciting series of television advertisements for our flagship brand Lockwood, later this year. Additionally, there are plenty of new and exciting products to hit the market in 2014, so make sure you keep an eye out in the upcoming months for their release.

We are looking forward to what 2014 will bring for both your business as well as our own and as I have mentioned previously there is plenty of activity ahead!

Once again, thank-you for your support and I hope you enjoy the read.

ASSA ABLOY I ERP SYSTEM UPDATE

ASSA ABLOY Australia implemented their new ERP system in early November 2013. The organisation is the second ASSA ABLOY company in the Asia Pacific region to implement the Dynamic AX system, following on from ASSA ABLOY New Zealand.

The Dynamics AX system is now fully operational in ASSA ABLOY Australia covering all areas of the business from product planning and development to manufacturing, purchasing, warehousing, finance, human resources, marketing and customer service.

Whilst ASSA ABLOY Australia acknowledges that teething problems with the new system has been a source of frustration for customers and staff alike; there has been an assurance that there is an abundance of ongoing hard work taking place behind the scenes to locate and correct bugs in the system and new business processes.

Major issues addressed are as follows:-

• System issues with processing orders, delivery notes and invoicing through the warehouse and from manufacturing have now been resolved.

• Significant progress has been made and numbers have been drastically reduced concerning the backlog of new product numbers that were to be entered into the system.

• Corrections and improvements are being undertaken to the information and appearance of output documents (sales order confirmation, delivery note, invoice, customer statement etc.)

Several benefits ASSA ABLOY Australia customers can expect from the new system are:-

• Customers can automatically receive their documents via e-mail (Sales Order Confirmation, Invoice and Statement). Please contact Accounts Receivable to arrange this.

• Barcode scanning 100% of picks of stocked items along with all manufacturing production orders will increase order accuracy and efficiency.

• Consolidate orders for keyed and non-keyed products for house lot orders (builders)

• Improved integration with ProMaster to facilitate processing special keying orders

• Single or multiple orders can be consolidated to allow one delivery to the customer and one invoice

• One internal planning system allows supply chain transparency to improve communication of stock availability at all levels – components and finished products

• Effective control of minimum balance at individual item level to optimise inventory holding, thus improving DIFOT

ASSA ABLOY Australia would like to thank their customers for their patience during the transition to the new system. The organisation is confident that their staff and customers will reap the benefits for many years to come.

ASSA ABLOY Australia is a proud contributor to the

redevelopment of the Queensland University of

Technology’s $230m Science and Technology’s

Precinct and Community Hub Project, at the Gardens

Point Campus.

The 45,000m2 precinct is a showcase of sustainable

building and design incorporating living lab features

which spans across two multi-storey towers. The centre

is not only utilised as a building for students to study

in but it is also an energy and water efficient structure,

which can be researched and monitored by students

and leading academics. The design itself has essentially

brought together teaching and research in science,

technology, engineering and mathematics in what has

been classed as a world-leading model.

As well as being a centre for the development of teaching

and learning, this world leading structure exemplifies

cutting edge research and sustainability solutions.

With sustainability as a guiding principle in the design

and construction of this precinct, the project attracted

an ‘Australian Excellence’ Green Star rating from the

Green Building Council of Australia. This sustainability

showpiece is so “green” that it is even powered by

trees – solar trees, of course, that are programmed to

follow the sun, thereby drawing maximum energy every

day. The Centre is a certified 5-star Green Star rated

building in “Education v1” for “Design”. It is powered by a

combination of grid power, natural gas and solar energy,

generating enough electricity to power itself and put

power back into the QUT grid. This tri-generation system

has been engineered to reuse rather than lose heat; with

heat being used to cool the air-conditioning systems,

de-humidify labs and heat the swimming pool.

ASSA ABLOY I IN SAUDI ARABIA

ASSA ABLOY Australia is thrilled to announce a recent distribution agreement with IBRAHIM SHAFIQ RAIDAN TRADING & CONTRACTING CO (ISR) located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to supply product to the Kingdom.

ISR are a supplier to the construction industry within this region and have already commenced work on specification on a number of projects.

Earlier this year, ASSA ABLOY Regional Sales Manager for the Middle East – Jason Winters, Kevin Cox (ASSA ABLOY Export Manger Middle East & Northern Pacific) along with David Oliver (ASSA ABLOY Business Manager Sales) met with ISR General Manager Mr Ibrahim Raiden and Mr Maher M Jammal, ISR Executive Director to secure the agreement.

‘The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is currently undergoing a significant growth in construction and ASSA ABLOY Australia is well positioned to assist in supplying residential and commercial projects with our extensive range of global brands’ comments ASSA ABLOY Business Manager for Sales, David Oliver.

ASSA ABLOY Australia products have long been highly respected in the Middle East; with the company exporting Trimec and Lockwood branded products to the region for the past decade. During this period exports were primarily supplied to Australian designed or managed construction projects however, demand is now on the rise from local conglomerates. This can be attributed to the strong relationships forged by the ASSA ABLOY Regional Sales Manager for the Middle East – Jason Winters and the irrefutable reputation of the ASSA ABLOY Australia product offering.

ASSA ABLOY IS A PROUD CONTRIBUTOR

ASSA ABLOY Australia is a proud contributor of De Balk van Beel; the first building in the new district of Tweewaters in Leuven, and currently the largest city centre development in Belgium.

ASSA ABLOY I DE BALK VAN BEEL

The former site of the InBev brewery is being redeveloped into a car free district with 1,200 low energy apartments and 70% open and public spaces, in which 5,000 people will be able to live and work. The main focus for this development is sustainability and innovation.

It was through ASSA ABLOY Australia’s distributor partner in Belgium, Allocking BVBA, that TRIMEC branded product was used within the build. Allocking BVBA is a respected electrical wholesaler in Belgium also offering its customers reliable technical and installation services with great success. In addition to being a very good supporter of the ASSA ABLOY range of products, Allocking is an exclusive distributor of the TRIMEC range for Belgium.

“A medium scale business like ours relies a lot on the manufacturers support to promote the solutions – for we have limited resources and ASSA ABLOY Australia offers us that support with the TRIMEC brand. TRIMEC solutions are definitely unique and thus adding value to our business and in turn our customers. We promote the solutions with great confidence and never hesitate to test the products to their limits in the harshest environments” comments Thierry Persoons, Director Allocking BVBA, Belgium.

The ES9000 Electric Strike was preferred for this project by Allocking despite the availability of a vast number of product options that could have been sourced from within Europe. This exemplifies the trust the distributor has in ASSA ABLOY Australian manufactured product and also shows their confidence in the stringent Australian standards the product meets. The ES9000’s features not only addressed the tough site conditions but also met the critical requirements for this iconic environmentally friendly project.

“It’s great to see the confidence of our distribution partners in our solutions. It takes a lot of time and effort to build this confidence especially from half way across the world. Instances like these certainly reinforces that our brands are at the forefront of our customers minds and makes all the effort we as ASSA ABLOY representatives put in worthwhile” comments Asrit Devalla, ASSA ABLOY Export Sales Representative.

In addition to TRIMEC several other ASSA ABLOY products sourced within Europe were also utilised within this project.

LOCKWOOD RACING I CLIPSAL 500

Adelaide’s Clipsal 500 launched the 2014 V8 Supercar season in early March. Fabian Coulthard had a fantastic weekend with the Lockwood Racing Commodore showing great pace during the three races culminating in a point’s haul that sees him sitting second on the driver’s championship.

Saturday Race One 125km/39 laps: A change to the Clipsal 500 format for 2014 saw the usual 250km race split into two 125km races. Fabian, starting 10th got away to an unbelievable start jumping to eighth after the first lap. The pit stop cycle started on lap ten with Fabian moving up to third.

His pace in the following laps was faster than those who had pitted, allowing him to gain track position. Engineer Phil Keed called him in on lap 16 for his fuel and tyres stop; the crew getting him back into the race in seventh spot. By lap 22 he was up to fifth position and raced on the finish to seal a top five and great points to start the year.

Saturday Race Two 125km/39 laps: Coulthard was back to position 16 for the start of Saturday’s second race. He made a clean start holding track position over the opening laps. He raced through to lap 13 when he received the call to pit for tyres and fuel under a safety car period. Fabian re-joined in eighth position and took position behind the safety car. As the race restarted on lap 15 he pressed on, making up two spots before a drive through penalty to Van Gisbergen allowed Coulthard into position five. He took the chequered flag in fifth banking another haul of championship points.

Sunday Race Three 250km/78 laps: With two fifth place finishes on Saturday, Coulthard was confident the car had the speed to move through the field from the eighth row of the grid. He lost a spot off the start in the frantic run to turn one. Engineer Phil Keed called Fabian in early on lap three for his first stop, changing four tyres and a fuel fill, re-joining 20th. A safety car on lap 11 bunched the field before restarting on lap 14. All hell broke loose as the cars fired down the straight into turn one. Team mate Jason Bright was tagged in the rear quarter spinning the car and then rolling out of control into the wall.

Coulthard was following and immediately radioed in to check on Brighty’s condition. The safety car returned as they moved the wrecked Team BOC Commodore off the track and cleaned up the mess. Fabian was into 6th on the restart on lap 19. He was lacking drive but was fighting on having moved into fifth by lap 20. Phil called him in again for his second stop on lap 46. He re-joined and 11 laps later inherited 5th spot back when Whincup received a drive through penalty. The Lockwood Racing Commodore was quick in the closing laps. Up into fourth on lap 65, a position he held until the chequered flag.

“Leaving Adelaide second on points is great. Last year we were 23rd and we finished 6th in the championship - it’s a great start. We just need to keep the momentum going. Qualifying is definitely something we can improve. In every session other than qualifying we’ve been in the top 5. In all 3 qualifying sessions we’ve been out of the top 10. We need to have a look at that and try to rectify the problem. I think if we can get a better qualifying car we can run at the front and get a better result”, comments Fabian Coulthard.

Three awesome drives over the weekend saw Lockwood Racing’s Fabian Coulthard into the top five on each occasion. Coulthard’s weekend haul of points sees him in second position on the driver’s championship after the first round.

GRAND PRIX I LOCKWOOD RACING

Fresh from a strong start to the 2014 Championship season at the Clipsal 500, Lockwood Racing’s Fabian Coulthard headed to Albert Park in downtown Melbourne for the MSS Security V8 Supercar Challenge; a non-points race weekend supporting the Formula One championship.

Friday Race One 10 laps: A new inclusion for the teams was a rolling start for each race. Fabian rolled off the line from the fourth row of the grid and joined the field as the safety car lead the pack around Albert Park. As it peeled off into pit lane, the field spread two wide down the front straight until the first row hit the acceleration zone - 100% throttle and they were off! Coulthard got a great jump and grabbed two spots in the opening lap. Mid race, the Lockwood Racing Commodore had plenty of pace, pressuring Caruso for fourth before holding position to take the race one chequered flag in fifth spot.

Friday Race Two 10 laps: The cars started Friday’s second ten lap race from their race one finishing positions. Coulthard scored a pre-race bonus through after officials penalised Whincup for a race one infringement; moving the Lockwood Racing Commodore up a spot, to start fourth. Fabian capitalised on a great jump from the rolling start to be in third position exiting the first corner. What followed was some great close racing with Lowndes before the cars handling faded late in the race. Fabian fought off a fast finishing Caruso to finish in third position.

Saturday Race Three 12 laps: Saturday’s race action was a single 12 lapper. Fabian reported a possible sticking throttle on his out lap. The crew checked the problem on the starting grid and reported all was good for race three. The Lockwood Racing Commodore got another great start holding third spot through the first corners. A major crash on the first lap bought out the safety car before restarting on lap four. Coulthard took the advantage at the second restart muscling his way into second position. By lap five he was all over Van Gisbergen fighting for the race lead. The fight eventually settled as Shane found some clear air and gapped the Lockwood Racing Commodore. Light rain began to fall on the closing lap however, Fabian held his spot to grab second position.

Sunday Race Four 12 laps: The final 12 lap race scored double points for the drivers making it the most important race of the weekend. Careful tyre strategies had kept a reasonable set of tyres for the Lockwood Racing Commodore. Off the front row Fabian made his fourth great start of the weekend. He went side by side with Van Gisbergen on the first lap grabbing the lead after massive front brake lock up. Unfortunately the resulting flat spotted tyre hampered the cars handling. Coulthard fought on although unable to hold position dropping spots to McLaughlin on lap two and then Caruso following a safety car restart on lap nine. He managed to bring the car home fifth to score 298 points for the weekend, an agonising one point short of a third place podium finish.

“For the first half lap I thought the car was pretty racy. We were able to stay right on Shane for the first part but 12 laps around here with a severely flat spotted front tyre is pretty hard work. This weekend definitely gives me confidence; we’ve got a really fast car. This weekend’s been good, I think we’ve made inroads with the car and made it better so I’m definitely looking forward to getting to the coming rounds,” comments Fabian Coulthard.
