Before we began to storyboard our film production, we first needed to decide where we would be filming and if the location that we found would be suitable for the task. To find this out we need to see if there is enough lighting, enough space to film in but most of all, would there be a better location for that shot. We took images of a variety of locations and from there we picked the best locations that fit all these criteria before we filmed there.

This is the first location that we found this is up in Baildon and that pathway goes across the bank. The whole area is open so there is a lot of natural lighting available.

The area that we will be filming in has a lot of locations were the actress can move to but the main are that we will be using is the path in the middle. The reason for this is because we want to use that path to create a secluded feel to the film. If the protagonist walks down the path the walls will frame the character in to make the shot feel smaller. The lighting for this shot is also good and there isn’t anything in the scene that would prevent the sunlight getting to where we need it. The street light also allows us to do evening shots as well if we choose to.

This next shot is of the same pathway but a little bit further in. this shot gives you a good idea of any close up shots and how well lit this pathway is during the day. The sky at the back may be a problem as it appears to bright for this shot so we would have to plan the perfect time for filming. At the end of the path there is a turn which from this part of the path it would be a good place to cut between shots when the character walks off screen.

This is the second location that we are thinking of filming in. this is the location that we will be filming our opening sequence if the location is good.

The lighting of this area is perfect for us to film in, if it’s sunny however the bridges struts may cast a shadow over the whole bridge which would ruin the shot. The bridge itself however creates a tense mood; we can use the bridge itself to frame the character within the shot. We have had ideas for this location where we will have a birds eye view with the camera attached to one of the struts of the bridge and from there we can have a really good over the head shot.

This is one of the other favoured locations which we would like to film in. this area has a lot of natural lighting which means that it shouldn’t be a problem either. This shot is also good because if we choose to have a night-time shot, the viaduct itself will create a silhouette which will make the location look unnatural and uncomfortable which will be the aim for the type of shot that we require it for.

This is the final location that we have chosen to use for our opening sequence.

This wood is quite big so

there are many places within the wood which we could choose to use. The lighting should be good for filming as long as the film is shot during the day time.

The wide open location gives the film the secluded and unnerving feel which is the ideal look that we are going for.

As we will be filming within school for most of our short film means that not all of these locations are confirmed. I feel however that having a lot of locations to look at means that we can choose the best of these locations or change any locations that we may want to use but for some reason we cannot. Either way we will always have good locations which are suitable for our film regardless of whether we can use the locations we want or not.
