Page 2: Location recce

Location 1: Restaurant

Access: The café ‘Amici’ is centred in Dunstable town therefore is a fairly close by location. However, our time for filming is limited as it tends to be open between 10am and 5pm therefore filming times is slightly restricted. We also made sure the owners gave us consent to film in this location therefore its use should be no problem.

Lighting: The location has natural light from windows surrounding the café. This will give my shot a brightness, appearing at the ‘equilibrium’ stage of my teaser trailer.

Sound: There may be ambient sound of other people talking in the café or noises of food preparation. However, this is not an issue as all sound from the shots we take will be removed and replaced with a soundtrack.

Potential Hazards: The café is quite small and doesn’t have a lot of space. This means I need to take care in walking around chairs and tables which could potentially be a tripping hazard.

Overall suitability: The café includes suitable mise en scene and has a romantic feel which is what I am hoping to achieve from shooting here. However, roses are not included in the location therefore will be added to represent romance further.

Date and time: 11th October 10am

Location 2: A field

Access: This location is set at Queensbury School on the film. This is convenient as this is where I attend school. The actors which are starring in my film will also find this location easily accessible and will not cause any problems in terms of being able to reach the location.

Lighting: Permitting the day we film is fairly bright, all lighting will be natural in order to achieve a high key lit shot. The brightness of this shot will hopefully convey the happier times my characters share at the beginning of the narrative.

Sound: Sounds of passers by may be heard but isn’t an issue as any sounds recorded will be replaced with a soundtrack.

Potential Hazards: Tripping up paving could be a potential hazard but as long as both actors and crew are careful and aware of surroundings this should not be a problem.

Overall suitability: Overall, this location looks peaceful and bright, which is what I am to portray in my shot. The location is also very accessible and can be used at any point throughout the school day as long as the filming causes no disruption to any lessons.

Date and time: 11th October 1pm

Location 3: A roadside

Access: This is a public area therefore is accessible at any point during the day, therefore shooting time is not limited.

Lighting: Lighting is all natural and fairly bright. Weather permitting this shot should be ideal and should look conventionally romantic and bright, as long as on the day of shooting it doesn’t pour down with rain.

Sound: Any noise will be replaced with a soundtrack.

Potential Hazards: Cars passing by is a potential issue, however as long as people drive safely we are not planning on using the road at any point therefore this shouldn’t be a problem. Any loose paving slabs may be an issue so as long as crew members and actors are careful when shooting this shouldn’t be a major hazard either.

Overall suitability: This space is always accessible and local to all crew members and actors. This location is never usually busy therefore there should be no issue with disrupting passers by or having to wait before filming. Date and time: 11th

Location 4: The library

Access: This is the school library and is constantly accessible during the school day. We are planning to use this location at the end of the school day in order to get permission as we do not want to disrupt any students doing their school work. This means time to shoot will be limited.

Lighting: Lighting in this location will be artificial, with key lights situated on the ceiling. To avoid any disruption to continuity this scene may have to be colour graded during the editing stages of production.

Sound: Any sound will be replaced with a soundtrack.

Potential Hazards: Crew members and actors will need to be careful as chairs and tables could potentially be a tripping hazards, as well as any wiring around computers.

Overall suitability: This location is easily accessible for crew members and actors. The location includes the appropriate mise en scene which represents one of the characters as a ‘model student’. However, time to shoot will be an issue as we can only film during certain hours.

Date and time: 16th October 11am

Location 5: Living room

Access: This location is near enough always accessible as it is Amelia’s house (a group member). Permitting it causes no intrusion or disruption to her household this location should be constantly available for use.

Lighting: Lighting depends on the time of the shoot. We are planning on having artificial lights in this shot, meaning there will be no natural light shown through windows. The key light will be the TV screen with filler lights such as candles and lamps surrounding the characters. Colour grading and white balance will be applied if the shot appears to look too ‘yellow’ with the artificial lighting. The tea lights will hopefully will add to the appropriate mise en scene giving the shot a ‘romantic’ feel.

Sound: Any sound will be replaced with a soundtrack.

Potential Hazards: Potential hazards include any wiring or chairs. Permitting everyone is sensible and aware of their surroundings this hazard will be avoided.

Overall suitability: This is a local location for everyone involved in production therefore will be easily accessible. We will also have a large time frame to film this in, with simple access to re-film if required.

Location 6: Kitchen

Access: This is a food room at school but we felt it was appropriate for the kitchen scene in our trailer due to the fact it’s very open plan with plenty of space. This room will be available after school but not throughout the day or at weekends. This is a convenient location for all involved in my production.

Lighting: Either natural or artificial lighting can be used in this location. I think I will use natural lighting from the windows rather than using artificial lighting at the risk of producing a ‘yellow’ tint. This natural lighting will also give my shot a bright tone connoting happiness.

Sound: Any sound will be replaced with a soundtrack.

Potential Hazards: This is a cooking area therefore any cooking equipment which could cause harm need to be in cupboards and draws. Anything like ovens which could potentially burn anyone involved should also be made sure to be turned off before filming begins.

Overall suitability: We will have a large area to film in therefore it is suitable in terms of filming space and fitting in any equipment. The room is not always accessible therefore shooting time may be restricted.

Location 7: Jasmine’s home

Access: This front door scene will be used at the very beginning of my trailer. It will almost constantly be accessible as long as it is it doesn’t cause any disruption to Amelia’s household in any way. It is also quite convenient in terms of times we can film because the location can be used mornings/days/evenings.

Lighting: Lighting will be natural in this scene and hopefully the weather will be bright connoting happiness at the beginning stages of the trailer.

Sound: We need to ensure we film this shot without any passing cars to disrupt the dialogue.

Potential Hazards: Tripping on the door way is a potential hazard as well as the possibility of slipping on the floor if the surface is wet due to the weather conditions. As long as all members of production are careful this hazard should not be major.

Overall suitability: Nearly always accessible and can be easily accessed for any re-filming without causing too much stress. It looks like a typical ‘family home’ which audiences would find relatable. Date and time: 16th October

Location 8: The street

Access: This is a public street therefore will always be accessible. To ensure the location is not too busy we need to shoot during a quiet afternoon with not many passers by.

Lighting: The success of this shot relies heavily on the weather when we shoot. This is because if it is pouring down with rain it could restrict the ‘romantic’ feel we wish to achieve. This may mean waiting for appropriate weather conditions before filming, which could delay production.

Sound: Any sound will be replaced with a soundtrack.

Potential Hazards: Tripping on paving stones is a hazard but ensuring all members of production are aware of this danger and behave sensibly this should not be an issue.

Overall suitability: This location is very suitable for the romance shot I wish to portray. The location is fairly isolated, representing my two characters as important and caught up in their own world. Whether dependent, this should achieve a very effective shot for teaser trailer.

Location 9: Drive way

Access: This drive belongs to a member of production and is situated fairly close to the school. This means all members of production will find no issue in getting to the location. It is nearly always available to use, at any point during the day, giving us a lot of time to achieve the perfect shot.

Lighting: Lighting will be entirely natural, however colour grading will be used during the editing stages of production to ensure the ‘disruption to the equilibrium’ stage is shown, making the lighting lower to emphasis the disruption.

Sound: Any sound replaced with a soundtrack.

Potential Hazards: Cars could potentially use this drive during the shooting. Ensuring Amelia’s family members know the time of the shoot no car hazards should be a problem.

Overall suitability: This location is constantly available therefore is extremely suitable. However, because this location is outside the weather could effect the overall success of filming e.g. we hope the it does not rain during the shoot as it may distort some attempts of filming.

Location 10: Dining room

Access: This location again is in a member of the productions home. This means this location is nearly always available to use at any point during the day.

Lighting: Lighting in this room will be natural, as lighting is coming through the surrounding windows. Lighting will be editing after shooting as the brightness needs to be fairly low during this shot to portray the sudden ‘tragic’ change in character attitudes and shocking events.

Sound: Any sound will be replaced with a soundtrack.

Potential Hazards: Chair and table legs could lead to a potential tripping hazards therefore every member of production should be aware of this and try and avoid it by being careful where they walk.

Overall suitability: This is a very suitable location as it is often accessible and easily accessible for every member of production. This ensures on the day of filming there should be no issues with everyone involved being able to make it.
