40 Days for Life Pro-Life Activities on the Palouse

Lent Begins February 26th

Old Blessed Palms Please bring your old blessed palm branches so they can be burned and used on Ash Wednesday. Bins for palms are at the church entrances. Thank you! Ash Wednesday Services 9:00am Mass with Ashes with School Children 12:10pm Ashes & Holy Communion 6:00pm Ashes & Holy Communion in Genesee 7:00pm Mass with Ashes Penance Service April 2 at 7pm at St. Mary’s. Come and experience God’s healing grace. Seder Meal April 3 at 6pm at St. Mary’s. More info to follow. Tickets will be available soon. The Way of the Cross Join us for a meatless Soup and Bread Supper each Friday during Lent at 5:30pm followed by Stations of the Cross at 6:15. Fr. Joe will be hosting discussions on Bishop Robert Barron’s Letter to a Suffering Church following Stations. (Separately, Stations of the Cross will also be offered at 12:15pm each Friday.) Letter to a Suffering Church This booklet addresses the difficult topic of the sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Church in a matter-of-fact, head-on way. Fr. Joe will be hosting discussions on the book during Lent following the Friday evening Stations of the Cross. We mailed these booklets along with a letter from Fr. Joe to everyone who is registered in our parish. If you are not registered in our parish and would like a copy, we have a limited number of extras available at the back of the church. Lenten Reflection Booklets As usual, Fr. Joe has sent out daily reflection booklets for the season of Lent this year. If you have not received one, there is a basket of them at the back of the church along with samples of other daily reflection booklets. Lenten Faith Sharing Groups Have you signed up for a Small Faith Sharing Group yet? Time is running out – the groups will start meeting this week. You can sign up at the family center, back of church or call the office. Why not gather together 3 or 4 friends and form your own group. Faith booklets for the 6 week sharing groups are available at the office. Don’t wait–sign up this weekend! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Catholic Women’s League meeting today after the 11:30 Mass. This will be a Pot-luck Soup and Bread luncheon. There will be a short business meeting, looking at what the CWL has done since Christmas and look at what is ahead. Boy Scout Pancake Breakfast and Spaghetti Dinner Please see the insert for information about the Boy Scout breakfast and dinner that will be served on Saturday, February 29th at the Family Center. Yum! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Knights of Columbus Dinner The Knights of Columbus invite you to attend a dinner on Saturday, March 7th at 6pm after the evening Mass. Proceeds from this dinner will benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and cost is by donation. The menu includes meatloaf (gluten free), gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, and homemade pies. Our next Senior Get-Together will be Monday, February 24th from 1 pm to 2:30 pm. This is our “game” day, so bring your favorite deck of cards or board game to share. We will also be celebrating “Fat Tuesday – Mardi Gras only on Monday” in preparation for Lent which begins February 26. We will have coffee and tea, good conversations and great cookies – you could also bring a “goodie” to share. Our bus will be available for anyone who needs a ride, so please call 882-4813 to be picked up. St. Mary’s School Brief: St. Mary's School will have a palm burning ceremony on Monday, February 24th, to make ashes for Ash Wednesday Masses on the 26th. Dr. Beller just came back

from a principals' meeting in Salt Lake City. On Thursday, February 13th, we had our yearly Spelling Bee. Students went through 13 rounds. Hannon Johnson-Leung, Grade 6, won the bee with the word disastrous. Cameron Vogl, Grade 8, came in second. Hannah will be going to the regional contest in Lewiston in March. Blessings and good luck to her. Tuesday, February 25th, the school is holding a special meeting for all parents to come and learn about the school finances and the budget for the 2020-2021 school year.
