Arkansas Bend ParkAt end of Sylvester Ford Road in Travis County. A peaceful 323-acre park with two miles of shoreline. Offers opportunities for hiking, fishing, camping, picnicking and lake access via an excellent boat ramp. Several inviting, shaded picnic and camping areas above a gently sloping, rocky waterfront. $8/vehicle day use, $15 overnight. 512/854-7275
Dink Pearson ParkFM 1431 south 11 miles to Lohmans Ford Rd. It’s at the end of Lohmans Ford Rd, just past the security gates for Pointe Venture. The 3.6 acre park consists of limestone outcropping with shallow layers of loam and a gently sloping sandy loam shoreline. The park is covered with dense juniper/oak woodland while along the shoreline is a semi-open grassland. No entrance fees.
Gloster Bend Recreation AreaOff Singleton Bend Road, 6 mi. west of Lago Vista on FM 1431A mile of grassy shoreline is easily accessible at the 586-acre recreation area. Park is day-use only. Horseback riding permitted, boat ramp with paved parking area, picnic tables and grills. $5/vehicle.
Turkey Bend Recreation AreaOff Shaw Road, 9 miles W of Lago Vista on FM 1431. 400 acres on Lake Travis, prime camping and fishing spots with great views of the lake. No boat ramp, grassy shoreline for canoes & kayaks. Horseback riding allowed, fishing, hiking trails, picnic tables, fire rings. $5/vehicle.

Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife RefugeJust west of Lago Vista on FM 1431The refuge falls at the juncture of the Great Plains and Gulf Coast bioregions. In addition, the refuge straddles the divide between the Colorado and Brazos watersheds. Beneath the land lies a mysterious labyrinth of caves. Add the unusual limestone geology of the Edwards Plateau and it’s not surprising to find plants and animals adapted to live here and nowhere else. At least a third of the state’s threatened and endangered species live or migrate through the area. Lake Travis is a reservoir on the Colorado River in central Texas in the United States. The reservoir was formed in 1942 by the construction of Mansfield Dam on the western edge of Austin, Texas by the LCRA, and was built specifically to contain floodwaters in a flash-flood prone region.
Lake Travis stretches 65 miles upriver from western Travis County in a highly serpentine course into southern Burnet County to Max Starcke Dam, southwest of the town of Marble Falls.
