Problem:• Typically, an agency will maintain new

turf and plants for 30 days after construction and then rely on the residents or property owners to continue maintenance.

• Unfortunately, this has resulted in mixed success due to myriad reasons: not watering, over watering, mowing too short (causing the turf to burn/die), over fertilizing, etc.

Deliverables: • YouTube video for agencies to send to residents

explaining their roles and responsibilities to maintain boulevard turf after construction.

• Detailed graphics highlighting new “temporary” irrigation system developed by for UofM for use on construction projects.

• Document/resource guide informing/educating (agencies and public) dispelling myths, facts, and fiction of turf establishment (leveraging information compiled by MnDOT and others.

Estimated time of completion: Late Fall • Chair: Paul Oehme (Chanhassen)• Looking for additional TAP Members

Problem: • Repairing cracks and potholes on paved

trails is challenging• Part of the problem is that although

“typical” fixes repair the distress, they often make the trail less smooth.

• More trails are being built requiring agencies to manage more miles

• Original training from 2012 is out of date

Trail Maintenance Update

• Pavement management• Operational activities• Asst management tools• Maintenance schedule

Problem:Understanding new pavement preservation techniques• What are there respective pros/cons?• How have they performed?• When should they be used?• Are there construction specifications?• What contractors are available?

Problem:• How do you decide the type of facility to design

(contra flow, sharrow, cycle track, buffered bike lane, separated bike lane, etc.)?

• What conditions are best for shared facility versus off-street?

• What are the best practices for bicycle and pedestrian design in multi-jurisdiction areas?

• Is there a standard or best practice for paving shoulders in rural areas to provide bike lanes?
