THANKS to all who supported the Marriage Amendment this past week. Below is a press release from the Minnesota Catholic Conference: The Minnesota Catholic Conference (MCC), the public policy voice of the Catholic Church in Minnesota, is disappointed that Amendment 1 did not pass. Despite this setback, our efforts to promote and defend the cornerstone social institution of mar- riage will continue. MCC’s support of Amendment 1 was rooted in the complementarity of the sexes, the public significance of their ability to procreate, and the fundamental right of all children to be born into an intact family with a married mother and a father, even though this is not always possible. These basic human truths remain with or with- out the passage of this amendment. Our position on the amendment was never “anti” anyone, but “for” marriage. We continue to emphasize that everyone, including those with same-sex attraction, must be treated with charity, dignity, and respect. The Catholic Church welcomes all and remains committed to affirming the irrevocable dignity of all persons created in the image and likeness of God. We thank the thousands of Minnesotans, particularly our partners in the Minnesota for Marriage coalition, who worked tirelessly to bring about the amendment’s passage. MCC will continue to support and advocate for public policy that best serves all of society, human dignity and the basic rights of children. Marriage needs to be strengthened, not redefined. We look forward to finding ways we can all work to- gether as Minnesotans to strengthen marriage and family life. St. Paul, MinnesotaNovember 7, 2012 “In many other cases the Gospel wit- nesses to the power of faith. Jesus ex- presses his admiration for the centu- rion’s faith: "Truly, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith" (Mt 8:10). The role of faith is to co-operate with this power- lessness. Jesus asks for this cooperation to the point that upon returning to Nazareth, he works almost no miracles because the inhabitants of his village did not believe in him (cf. Mk 6:5-6). For Jesus, faith has a decisive importance for the purposes of sal- vation.” “True faith is animated by love of God, which is inseparable from love for our brothers and sisters.” Blessed John Paul II, General Audience 18

"For you must understand: he desires nearness; he would like to live in you and commingle his breath with your breathing. He would like to be with you until the end of the world. He knocks at all the souls. He makes himself small and inconspicuous so as to be able to par-take of all their little transactions and concerns. He ap-proaches quietly so as not to disturb or be recognized; he comes to be present incognito in the full hubbub of the earth's annual fair. he seeks trust, intimacy; he is a beggar for your love. Here is where you must really stand firm so that the boundaries won't be blurred. He is God and he must remain such. He out not demean himself. It is a God-fearing thing to remind him of what he owes to himself. When he suddenly jumps out of his ambush and grips at your heart with one of his famous handholds, and your heart goes wild with throbbing, then you must quickly casy yourselves down and say with all humility: "Lord, go away from me. I am a sinful man!" That's an obvious distance, you see. And when he looks at you sorrowfully and silently attempts to make his solitude visible to you, remain strong. Do him hom-age and say: "I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof" (but leave the rest out). Father Hans Urs Von Balthasar

Holy Rosary School News

September & October 2012

It‘s been another great year so far at Holy Rosary School with lots of excitement and learning going on throughout the building. We have been blessed with 124 students in grades preschool – 8th grade, and have welcomed 9 new families to our school in grades K-8. The first day of school this year was on Tuesday, September 4th. Students spent their day getting to know their class-mates, new teacher, and the classroom expectations. The middle school students spent the afternoon enjoying a round of mini golf at Rockin‘ Waters Golf Course and made a stop at the Dairy Queen on their way back to school. One of our greatest and most treasured events happened on Wednesday, September 26th when we celebrated Grandpar-ent‘s Day here at school. Prior to the event, invitations were sent home with students to share with their grandparents. Approxi-mately 90 grandparents and all of our students gathered in the church for a short program filled with songs to celebrate our grand-parents. This was followed by several activities in St. John‘s Hall that allowed students and grandparents to interact and enjoy each other‘s company. Some of the stations included ―FAITH‖ Bingo, photos with grandparents, decorating and then eating your own cupcake, making bookmarks, putting a sugar cookie recipe mix in a bag, remembering nursery rhymes and coloring. It was a wonderful afternoon and fun for everyone! On Friday, September 28th, the middle school took their annual fall charter bus trip to the Renaissance Festival in Shako-pee, MN. Throughout the year, the group raises money through their school store to help pay for the trip. At the festival, students enjoyed many activities such as: glass blowing, print making, candle making, face painting, musical instruments, pottery, and sculptures. Other educational events and entertainment included: Renaissance History, Live Action Jousting, Courtly Dance Les-sons, Juggling School, and Renaissance games. It was a beautiful day and a good time was had by all! After the trip, all of the middle school students participated in a creative writing contest, sponsored by the Renaissance Festival, and wrote stories and poems with the theme of The Knight Who Wouldn’t Fight.

On Wednesday, October 3rd, the middle school participated in the annual Envirothon held at the Prairie Wetlands Learn-ing Center in Fergus Falls. They entered three teams this year, and one of those teams (Emma Clark, Akyra Hagen, Clara Liver-more, Katriana Mehlhaff, & Anna Schumacher) took home the 3rd place trophy! It was a tight competition considering the top 3 places were within 4 points of one another. To celebrate the big win, the whole middle school group stopped in Pelican Rapids on the way home for a Dairy Queen treat.

On Thursday, October 4th, the Feast of St. Francis was celebrated at Mass with a special pet blessing. Many different pets, such as: fish, dogs, cats, bunnies, hamsters, and even a chicken, joined our students at Mass that day. Many of the pets joined in with the responses and singing the songs! Fall brings the opportunity for an exciting and fulfilling experience in 3rd grade reading. It was in October that they began their monthly visits to our neighbor next door, St. Mary‘s Nursing Center. The 3rd graders walk over with a specially chosen book from our library that each child believes will be fun and entertaining to read to a new-found friend from the center. These visits give the children a wonderful opportunity to live Jesus‘s desire for us to love our neighbors. Fourth graders are also excited about reading as the new school year starts and they began using the Accelerated Reader program in which they take their tests for comprehension online. Matthew Tobkin had the high score for reading and testing in both fiction and non-fiction. He scored 36.1 points in October. Matthew is now in the ―25 Point Club‖! Congratulations Matthew! Our middle school have also been busy in the classroom. Some of the science activities they did this month included: studying weather and climate and then acting as meteorologists by collecting data about the daily weather and presenting their results to the class; studying matter and having fun using dry ice to create ice bubbles; learning about density and making Fizzy Fountains; and on Halloween day, using pumpkins in math class to estimate weight, height, circumference, and diameter. They also have been working in FACS class to sew a pouch for their e-readers, ipods, etc. and have been learning about using debit and credit cards, balancing a checkbook, and tipping. The month of October was concluded by carving pumpkins for the altar at the Pumpkin Liturgy and going to an educational corn maze near Park Rapids. The theme for the corn maze and the activities there were based on our 1st president, George Washington. Finally, we would like to conclude by thanking everyone who helped us top our goal for the marathon by helping us raise $25,606 for Holy Rosary School! Four of our students, Kobe Braukmann, Katriana Mehlhaff, Grace Jaroszewski, and Madison Bowers, earned over $1,000 and made the ―$1,000 Club‖. Thank you everyone for your commitment and dedication to our school – it is a true blessing!

of the dinner so that our parishioners who can‘t get out will get their meal delivered in time for Thanksgiving dinner.

We need donations to help defray the cost of the meal. (turkeys and all the trimmings to make sure the meal is just like home.
