Introduction

This ebook offers six personal stories volunteered by our customers. These stories are vignettes into our customers’ lives and how our customers used car title loans to get the money to accomplish something. Some of these stories are fun and frivolous, some are dire. We feel that while these stories may not reflect the majority of the people taking out a title loan, they do tap into the spirit behind the loans.

Borrowers are using the money from a car title loan to achieve something in their lives. Sometimes what they are trying to accomplish is something as basic as getting to their next paycheck. Other times they are borrowing money to pay for something they’ve always dreamed of. They are excited by the prospects of new adventures. Or they are relieved they can afford to take care of a problem.

People use the money from title loans for all the same things people use credit cards for and for a good reason. Title loans are often used by people with bad credit to be able to afford the things they need.

We hope you enjoy the stories presented in Loan Stories Volume 1: Tales of Struggle and Triumph.

Carly Found Mr. Right When She Got A Car Title Loan in San Antonio

"If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten." Toni Robbins As a single late twenty-something woman in San Antonio, you'd think finding Mr. Right wouldn't be

too difficult. San Antonio is a major city with a lot of young up-and-coming single men, but darn it if finding someone I want to settle down with wasn't one of the more difficult things I've ever done -- and I have a Masters in Organic Chemistry!

A year ago I needed a break from my job, from my family, from my life really. I was in the deepest longest rut in my life and something needed to change. I needed a vacation and I needed it right now. I won't bore you with the first-world problem tragedy of my situation. Simply put, I needed to shake things up. Unfortunately my checking account wasn't complying with my need for a life change.

What was a single twenty-something woman with a need to reshape her life's destiny to do?

I Used My Car's Title for Cash I took the one financial asset I had in my name - my car - and used it as collateral for a loan. I went

to 1800loanstore and applied for a title loan using their online title loan application. They aren't a lender, they are a service helping people who want to borrow money find the best title

loan deals available. It literally took less than 40 minutes to apply and speak to the representatives on the phone to sort out all the details about the loan. I was able to get a payment plan fitting for my monthly budget and more than enough money to have a fun filled week skiing in Colorado.

I picked up the money for my loan the very next day!

What Did I Say About Mr. Right? In Colorado I was the perfect snow bunny, tearing up the slopes during the day and charming the

lads in the lodge at night. This is where I met Ben. Ben from Fort Worth! I guess my problem with finding Mr. Right in San Antonio was he had failed to move from Fort Worth

and I had to meet him in Colorado! He has since apologized for his failure to be in the right place but I forgave him.

I do sometimes wonder what would have happened if I hadn't taken a vacation using the money I borrowed with my car title. Would I have found Ben? I shudder to think of that 'what-if' future.

Tamara's Title Loan Continued Her Education

"Why should society feel responsible only for the education of children, and not for the education of all adults of every age?" Erich Fromm

Going back to school is one of the hardest decisions a person can make in her life. It feels like such

a gamble, yet when we are in our teens and early twenties we make decisions in college that don't translate into careers. After we've been in the workforce for a few years, we know better. We know what skills we actually need. We can see what companies value and train ourselves to meet those needs.

This is exactly what Tamara did when she found herself stuck in a job. She didn't hate her job. In fact she loved the company she worked for, but after one review where her supervisor basically indicated there wasn't a position in the company Tamara was qualified to be promoted towards, Tamara realized she was going to be stuck as a sales assistant for the rest of her time at the company she loved.

If you aren't moving upwards, you are falling behind. Tamara no longer considered herself young. She had responsibilities like a mortgage and children to

care for. Her husband's job was stable but for their household budget to work both of them needed to have well-paying jobs. With two years of no raises and no promotions, Tamara was becoming disgruntled.

After several weeks of wrestling with her feelings, Tamara finally decided to take some classes in business administration. She wasn't ready to commit to a degree program but she thought if she could at least show she was developing new skills, she could at least make a case for a better raise.

The one problem Tamara and her husband had with this decision was the lack of money to pay for her classes. Since she wasn't in a degree program, she wasn't eligible for financial aid. The extra hundreds of dollars a month for the classes just wasn't in their budget.

No matter how they worked their budget, the money just wasn't there for her to take her Intro to Management and other courses at $300 plus a class. Tamara and her husband determined how much they reasonably could take from savings. Neither wanted to use credit cards as both of them had fought off revolving debt issues a few years earlier which also left both of their credit scores a bit battered. A traditional personal loan wasn't going to work.

They listed their options and researched each one thoroughly. Together they determined a car title loan offered them the money they needed as well as the flexibility in repayment other short term loans didn't have.

The benefits of the title loan seemed fairly clear to them. • They got to keep their car during the duration of the loan. • They were able to work out a payment plan to fit their monthly budget. • They could pay back the loan early without a penalty. The loan they structured with 1800loanstore's assistance gave them the breathing room they needed

and helped Tamara make a transition to improve her career options. As with all financial decisions, each person's situation is different and what works for one person

doesn't necessarily work for another. It is important to know what the options are. Tamara and her husband didn't jump into getting a title loan. While they had a pressing need and a title loan is mostly known as a quick cash loan, they didn't leap before looking. Tamara said they were extra cautious because of their past problems with credit card debt. They didn't want to fall into another debt hole and they read all the negative aspects of title loans before contacting 1800loanstore.

"We were pretty skeptical," Tamara said. "There are so many warnings about title loans." Yet, after doing research and realizing title loans aren't a loan for long term borrowing. "It isn't like a

mortgage," Tamara said. Both Tamara and her husband indicated they understood how the interest on a title loan was calculated and saw the cost of the loan as acceptable in relation to their other options. "We were backed into a corner with few options. We do own a car, though."

Tamara said she would consider using a title loan again in the future if the need arose. "We have one more month on the current loan and I've paid for the classes I want to take. Most likely I will get in a degree program and get regular financial aid next year so we won't have the same need, but if we come up short, it is nice to know we have an asset we can rely on to borrow money with."

Sandy Kept Her Daughter Off The Streets With A Title Loan

"When preparing to travel, lay out all your clothes and all your money. Then take half the clothes and twice the money." Susan Heller

Many of us would love to travel to far off places, see more of the world than just our city. Not

everyone has the luxury to travel. Sandy was one of the people who never had the luxury in the form of time and money to travel to all the places she read and dreamed about. She admitted her regret at not trying harder to see more of the world. When Sandy's daughter had the chance to go to Europe, Sandy wanted to make sure her daughter could take that chance. Her daughter, Emily, had most of the money she needed and would be going with a small group of friends. Together they would be able to look after each other.

Since these are stories about loans and how people used their loans, you might suspect the trip to Europe didn't go as well as Sandy and Emily had planned. You'd be right.

The trip would take the four friends to Paris and then to London before they flew back to Florida. No one could expect a volcano, could they? How do you even plan for a volcano? [Tweet this] It isn't like a rain storm where you can pack an umbrella and a raincoat. In 2010 Eyjafjallajokull erupted and for many days shut down air traffic in various parts of Europe. Over 20 countries closed their airspace to commercial jet traffic and over 10 million travelers found their plans disrupted.

Emily and her friends found themselves grounded in London with money rapidly running out.

When Speed Matters Title Loans Excel Sandy didn't have a lot of time to get money into her daughter's bank account. She had few options

open to her and after talking to her neighbor about her situation, he suggested a short term loan like a title loan. Sandy's Subaru was completely paid off so she would be able to use the title to get a loan.

She searched online because she didn't know what the process was going to be like and wanted to be prepared. This is when she discovered she could apply online right then and there with no obligation. In a few minutes she saw she could get quite a bit of money with her car. The next step was to speak to a loan representative who walked her through the rest of the steps. Sandy had many questions and even more concerns. She wasn't sure if she had to give up her car for the duration of the loan or not. The loan representative assured her that a title loan wasn't the same as pawning her car. She'd keep her car as she paid back the loan. Her next concern was about how fast she'd get the money.

Imagine Sandy's relief when she discovered she'd have the money the very next day, before the bank closed. Emily wouldn't be begging in the streets of London like a Dickensian orphan!

The Appeal of the Title Loan Emily returned home safe and sound with many of her own stories. Sandy was able to take the

unused portion of the loan money and pay it back to the lender without incurring any prepayment fees. She said it wasn't even something she considered would be an issue when speaking with the loan representative until the rep told her loans under $5000 didn't come with a prepayment penalty.

She felt if she hadn't used a service like 1800loanstore to help guide her through the title loan application process, she may have gotten a loan where prepayment penalties would be a problem. Sandy liked the idea she had someone on her side in the process looking out for her interest.

Duane Kept the Lights On With His Title Loan

"Doing what needs to be done may not make you happy, but it will make you great." George Bernard Shaw

When first asked to share his story with us, Duane was quite blunt. "No," he said. "I have no interest

in airing my dirty laundry." It is an understandable sentiment and quite frankly, not an overly unique point-of-view. Short term

loans like title loans are often used to cover daily expenses. The story attached to these kinds of loans are longer, filled with unfortunate moments, missed opportunities, bad luck, and sometimes bad decisions.

Duane contacted us almost twenty-four hours later telling us he had reconsidered.

Title Loans are a Practical Solution "I didn't want to share my story because I didn't think there was a story to be told. I took out the loan

because I was desperate. I needed to pay rent, buy groceries, and put gas in my truck. That isn't much of a story to contribute," Duane shared. It's a truthful statement and one many of our customers could easily have made.

Duane explained his situation even more. "I'd been under-employed for nearly six months. My job was on-again off-again and I was getting by okay and then there was a good two weeks where I had less than 10 hours of work."

With the sudden loss of income, Duane attempted to adjust his budget but he dealt with too many fixed costs. "Look," he told us, "I can let the cable get turned off. That's fine. I can't let my phone get disconnected because that is how my work lets me know when to come in. I can't let the electricity get shut off and I can't get behind on the rent. That's just foolish."

Duane's financial struggle could be anyone's. "When it came down to it, I needed to borrow money. I really don't have anything worthwhile to pawn which would get me enough money to do anything and a payday loan was just too ... limiting." Since his truck was completely paid off, Duane wanted to solve his problem with a car title loan.

Was He Worried About Paying Back His Title Loan? "I wasn't worried about losing my truck. I understood how much I was borrowing and I had a plan to

pay it back," Duane explained. It's a rational concern to be worried about losing your vehicle if you are unable to pay back the loan, which is why it is important to know how the loan will be repaid. Duane said he had few options and his work was going to be sporadic for awhile, but at least he was going to get paid and from that, he'd be able to pay back the loan.

Duane's loan needs were simple. He knew he needed the money ahead of time so he wasn't rushed.

Speed wasn't his main concern. He was most interested in getting the lowest interest rate he could which led him to seek out title loans online. Duane said he did not like the idea of going into store after store to get the information he needed. He liked the idea of 1800LoanStore's service locating the best deals in his area. "If you guys couldn't offer me anything I liked, I could just walk away. That's the truth. I liked the fact I didn't have to talk to anyone if I wasn't happy with the amount my truck could get me."

We were happy to be able to help Duane get the loan he needed. The reality of short term financing like title loans is people turn to them when they don't have any other options. Not all the loan stories are going to be tales of triumph. More often than not, the true stories behind the loans are more like Duane's and we know people don't really like to reveal their hardships in this way.

We are grateful to Duane for sharing his experience with his title loan from us.

Christina's Title Loan Got Her Into Hot Water

"There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort." Jane Austen When Christina's water heater decided to fill her life with cold baths and showers, Christina had no

choice but to thwart it's icy plan by replacing it with a working water heater. The wily broken water heater wouldn't let her get off that easy. Christina didn't exactly have the money available to replace the bad appliance. She also didn't have the fortitude to withstand several weeks of only cold water. Something had to be done.

After getting the plumber's estimate, Christina took to Google and started looking for ways to get the money she needed. She actually was looking for what she could sell to get the money she admittedly was desperate to get. After going round and round, looking into all sorts of financing options, Christian stumbled upon our website and explored the idea of a car title loan.

She had seen car title loan places in Akron but they were always with payday loan places and she had dismissed them as something for other people. "I have a bank account. I don't use check cashing places," Christina said as why she never considered alternative lending before.

Short Term Loans For Quick Home Repairs A title loan is a short term loan which anyone with a vehicle with a lien-free title can get. Normally

there aren't any credit checks down to determine if the person is able to get a loan and for that reason, title loans are most often used by people who have bad credit. It is a well-known fact that is often dismissed that people with bad credit still need to borrow money.

Christina said her credit was fine, but she needed the cash fast. Each day she went with hot water was a day of pure misery. "I know it is an exaggeration but not having hot water felt apocalyptic. I quickly realized I'd never survive if civilization collapsed. I rely on modern conveniences for my comfort!"

A title loan is one of the fastest ways of borrowing a significant amount of cash. The actual amount of the loan is based on the value of the vehicle being used, so there is a range which a loan will fall. Finding out how much you can borrow is relatively simple.

How Much Can I Borrow? By completing the title loan application form on the website, you can get a free quote with no

obligation. It is where Christina started. "I was curious. I wanted to know if I could even get enough money to pay for the water heater. Doing it online meant I didn't have to talk to anyone and could get the quote. I could then decide whether it was worth the effort to actually get the loan."

Christiana did end up taking out the loan, becoming one of the thousands of borrowers we help

locate the best deals on title loans each month.

Jenny's Title Loan Paid for Her New York Trip

"The glamour of it all! New York! America!" Charlie Chaplin Ever since I can remember, I have dreamed of visiting New York City. The glitz, the glamour, the

shopping - The Big Apple seemed like the ideal place to see and be seen, as well as a far cry from my hometown in Texas. After seeing countless movies and television shows set in New York, I often felt as if I had already been there. However, the fact of the matter was I had never stepped foot in the state.

I had never craned my neck to look at the towering skyscrapers above me. I had never people-watched in Rockefeller Center or admired the breathtaking views from the top of the Empire State Building. There were so many things to do in New York, a city where everything and anything seemed possible. I wanted to experience it all for myself. All of my friends and family members knew about my infatuation with NYC, so they frequently ask me why I've never been.

I'd like to say it's because my high-powered job prevents me from taking time off, but I currently have two high-stress low-pay jobs. After 12-hour days on my feet, the best I can do is fantasize about wandering the tree-lined streets of Greenwich Village, because my bank account definitely doesn't align with my travel plans. How does a twenty-something woman on a tight budget fulfill her dream of visiting The Big Apple?

The Costs of Travel It's no surprise travel can be expensive. There are so many things to consider, including airfare,

ground transportation, accommodations, food, drink, and activities. Just thinking about the amount of money I would have to spend makes me break out in a cold sweat. To add insult to injury, New York City is notorious for being one of the most expensive cities in the world.

If I wanted to grab a hamburger for lunch, it could easily set me back $20. If I wanted to reserve a hotel room larger than a postage stamp, I would most likely need to shell out about $400 a night. As numbers swirled around in my head, I slowly came to the realization at this point in my life a trip to New York might be unattainable.

If you knew me, you'd know I don't go down without a fight. It might just be a Texas thing. Come hell or high water, I was determined to have tea at The Plaza and stroll through Central Park with a hot dog from a sidewalk cart in my hand! With my meager budget, I knew it was going to be tricky, but I knew there had to be a quick and easy way to make my travel dreams a reality. Boy, was I right!

How Jenny Benefitted from a Short Term Loan Many of our applicants come to us for quick and easy cash loans to handle day-to-day expenses.

Some, like Jenny, come to use with a passion or unrealized dream. She used our online title loan application to use her car to secure a loan to finance her dream trip to New York.

It only took a few minutes to apply and I got a free pre-approval quote right away. I was so relieved when I looked over my quote, because the amount was much higher than I expected.

People often underestimate the true value of their cars and don't realize they can tap into the value of their vehicle to pay for their dreams or to get out of a financial jam. We were excited to help finance Jenny's trip from San Antonio to New York City. Making a dream come true like this isn't an everyday experience, which makes it a memorable moment.

About Loan Stories Loan Stories is a project by 1800LoanStore to collect the personal stories of customers and why they

used a title loan. They shared their stories knowing we’d share them with the public and because of this, we agreed to keep their identities obscured – sometimes changing names and even locations to make sure their privacy was protected.

These stories are not necessarily typical of the average customer applying for a car title loan from 1800LoanStore since they were taken from applicants who volunteered the information.

A title loan has no restrictions on how it is used and unless the customer volunteers the information, we have no idea of the end use of the money they borrowed.

We started the Loan Stories project in hopes of dispelling some of the stigma attached to car title loans. Car title loans are often lumped in with payday loans, usually because the same stores offering one offer the other but a car title loan usually offers the borrower more money and more time to pay it back. For people with bad credit and people with no relationship with banks or credit unions, a title loan is one of the few ways they can borrow enough money to make large purchases or borrow money to pay unexpected bills or emergency expenses.

As you’ve read in some of these stories, people borrow money to take care of serious needs and sometimes borrow money just to live out a dream. Most Americans just turn to their credit cards, yet there is a large portion of the country without a credit card and bad enough credit they are unable to be approved for one. It is too easy to disregard the needs of this segment of the population. It is too easy to act as if they shouldn’t take vacations, they shouldn’t attempt to go back to school, they shouldn’t fix up their homes.

If they are going to borrow money, they should at least work with a company able to guide them towards affordable loans. They should work with a company able to counsel them on what is an acceptable monthly payment in regards to their budget, which also means being counseled to take out less money in order to protect against default.
