A peripheral is any device that is connected to a computer but not necessarily one of the main parts.

Desktop computers, game consoles and even portable devices make use of a wide range of peripherals.

Some peripherals allow you to play a game, others make the experience more enjoyable while some simply carry out the basics such as letting you watch or listen to a game.
