PORTFOLIO / HOMEWORK GUIDELINES

SESSION 2020-21

Dear Parents/Guardians and Students,

The winter vacation homework has been planned keeping in view the age of the students. All tasks are to be performed individually and independently by the students. However, parents are requested to supervise their kids to ensure their safety. Read the following instructions carefully before starting the homework:

· The learning portfolio/homework marks will carry some weightage in final exams also, so please make sure to put in the required time and effort.

· The assignments of all subjects may please be maintained in a learning portfolio with a separator for each subject.

· The institution’s name, student’s name, roll number and grade should be clearly labelled on the learning portfolio.

· The winter vacation homework is worth of total 100 marks. The subjects English, Urdu, Mathematics, Social Study, Computer Sciences and General Science carry 15 marks each, whereas the subject Islamiat carries 10 marks.

· The cover or title page of the portfolio is to be designed by students creatively representing their own choices and preferences. They may paste, draw or colour to make it more unique and attractive.

· The following points will be awarded over and above the total points:

iii.Handwritten assignments 05

· The students may use loose sheets, notebooks or register to submit solved learning portfolios. However, the solved file or copy may not exceed the following dimensions:

13 inches: Vertical

11 inches: Horizontal

· The students may submit portfolios in printed form. However, extra points will be awarded for hand written portfolios.

· All questions can be copied from the learning portfolio questionnaire in the answer book or sheet before answering. However, tasks like puzzles and pictures may be cut and pasted or drawn in the answer book before answering.

· The students are required to put date and day on daily basis.

· All pages must be numbered consecutively from the title page.

· Homework should be completed neatly and legibly.

· Make sure all tasks are done according to the given instructions and completed on time.

· The hard copy of the winter vacation homework should be submitted on January 14th , 2020.

· Late or incomplete learning portfolios will not be entertained.

Note: These guidelines are meant to describe general homework practices. Individual teachers are a source of more guidance and support. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions or concerns.

محترم والدین / سرپرست اور طلباء ۔

لرننگ پورٹ فولیو / ہوم ورک کی تشکیل طلباء کی عمر کو مدنظر رکھتے ہوئے کی گئی ہے۔ طلبا ء تمام کام کو انفرادی اور آزادانہ طور پر انجام دیں گے۔ تاہم ، والدین سے گزارش ہے کہ وہ اپنے بچوں کی حفاظت کو یقینی بنانے کے لئے ان کی نگرانی کریں۔ ہوم ورک شروع کرنے سے پہلے درج ذیل ہدایات احتیاط سے پڑھیں:

· لرننگ پورٹ فولیو / ہوم ورک میں حاصل کردہ نمبروں کا ایک متناسب حصّہ سالانہ امتحانات میں بھی شامل کیا جائے گا ، لہذا براہ کرم مطلوبہ وقت اور کوشش کو یقینی بنائیں اورلرننگ پورٹ فولیو / ہوم ورک کو بہترین انداز میں حل کریں۔

· براہ کرم تمام مضامین کی اسائنمنٹس کو separator page کی مدد سےلرننگ پورٹ فولیو میں الگ الگ رکھیں ۔

· ادارے کا نام ، طالب علم کا نام ، رول نمبر اور گریڈ واضح طور پر لرننگ پورٹ فولیو پر تحریر کریں۔

· موسم سرما کی چھٹیوں کا ہوم ورک کل 100 نمبر پر مشتمل ہے۔ انگریزی ، اردو ، ریاضی ، سوشل سٹڈیز ، کمپیوٹر سائنس اور جنرل سائنس کے مضامین میں ہر ایک 15 نمبر کا حامل ہے ، جبکہ اسلامیات 10 نمبر کی حامل ہے۔

· پورٹ فولیو کا سرورق (Title Page) طلباء تخلیقی طور پر اپنے انتخاب اور ترجیحات کو مدِّ نظر رکھتے ہوئے تیار کریں گے۔ وہ اسے دِلکش اور پرکشش بنانے کے لئے اِس کے اُوپر ڈرائنگ کر سکتے ہیں، رنگ بھر سکتے ہیں یا کوئی تصویر چسپاں کر سکتے ہیں۔

· مندرجہ ذیل نکات کو کل نمبروں کے علاوہ اضافی نمبر دیئے جائیں گے:

· طلباء حل شدہ لرننگ پورٹ فولیوز کے حل اور اُسے جمع کروانے کیلیے کھلے پیپرز ، نوٹ بک یا رجسٹر استعمال کرسکتے ہیں۔ تاہم ، حل شدہ فائل یا کاپی درج ذیل جہتوں سے تجاوز نہ کرے:

نوٹ: مندرجہ بالا ہدایات ہوم ورک سرانجام دینے کے عمومی طریقوں پر مشتمل ہیں۔ انفرادی طور پر متعلقہ اَساتذہ اکرام بہترین معاون و مددگار ہیں۔ اگر بچوں کے ہوم ورک کے حوالے سے آپ کے کوئی سوالات ہیں تو براہ کرم اپنے بچے کے اساتذہ سے رابطہ کریں۔

Q.2 Choose a region in Pakistan which has an area of historical, geographical, or cultural interest. Which special places, interesting facts, and other features would attract visitors to it? Make notes and collect images (or draw them).

Create a travel brochure or leaflet about that area. Your writing should persuade people to visit it. You can include information about its key attractions by using appealing descriptions, different images, and devices; for example, you could use bullet points to create a fact file of key information about the region or a specific place in it. 1. Energy can be transferred from one form to another. We use many energy converters in our daily life. Observe carefully to find these energy converters in your home. Make a list of any 10 converters including their names along with their energy chains.(5 marks)

2. Investigate the conditions required for seeds to germinate. Set up your apparatus as shown in figure. Keep the dishes at room temperature for a week. Explain your observations.

3. Use your bicycle to go to the market near your home. Come back to your home by using a different path. Measure and note down the time in seconds and distance in meters, from home to market, and from market to home. Calculate your speed for approach and return. 4. Drop a paper, a piece of thermopol, and a piece of plastic from a height of 10-15 feet. Note the time for each object to hit the ground. Why does the paper take more time than thermopol and thermopol more than the plastic piece? Make the paper to fell down in such a way that it should hit the ground before all of them. How did it happen? Explain.(5 marks)

5. Have you ever noticed that how much electrical energy is consumed by electrical appliances in your home. Make a chart of all of these appliances with their power in kW and an average use on daily, weekly, and monthly basis. Usually the electrical power is written on most of the appliances or on their packing. Calculate the total consumption of electrical energy in kWh in your home for December, 2020. Find the expected electricity bill for this month, if 1 kWh energy costs Rs 10. Which item consumed most energy during the month? (7 marks)

6. As we know that the three most common household fuse values are 3A, 5A, and 13A. Make a list of your household electrical appliances. Divide them into three groups according to their power consumption to decide what fuse should be fitted in the plug for each of them.(3 marks)

COMPUTER SCIENCE

1.Design a poster “All About Me” - self introduction using Microsoft Word to include as a cover page of your portfolio. (Instructions: You can insert shapes, add photos, text etc. of your liking. The poster should represent you. You can be CREATIVE with it). Take a print of the document and submit it.(6 marks)

2.Create an excel sheet of the reported COVID 19 cases in Pakistan in any of the five days (by observing /reading the news on COVID 19). Show the statistics of COVID province wise on day-to-day basis for minimum five days (Hint(s): create a table, use the appropriate formulas e.g., SUM, AVERAGE and then plot a line/bar chart).

Using IF statement formula, show which province has maximum number of total reported cases, recovered cases and deaths.

Write different titles for expenditures and amount date wise.
