The service aims to develop new approaches to programmes in a non-formal, community-based setting. The Community Education Service also provides support to community groups and voluntary organisations with the provision of grants. This grants scheme provides two options for groups to avail of funding: Direct Tuition Hours – the group can apply for a programme and the ETB will organise and pay the tutor directly or Financial Grant – the group can apply for a programme and source their own tutor – the ETB will provide a financial grant towards tuition costs only Applications are now invited from community groups and voluntary organisations for support regarding the delivery of educational programmes under LMETB’s Community Education Programme. In line with Government guidelines for usage of funding, priority will be given to courses/programmes which aim to work with individuals and groups that experience particular and acute barriers to participation in adult learning, in particular those who wish to access learning locally, as a step to more active community involvement or certified learning. Louth and Meath Education and Training Board’s (LMETB) Community Education Service supports and assists new and existing community groups and voluntary organisations to establish community-based education programmes. The service aims to develop new approaches to programmes in a non-formal, community-based setting. These programmes aim to help adult learners develop their self-confidence and educational skills base so that they can actively take part in their communities.

With this in mind programmes/courses should aim to address some/all of the following:

Specifically target educational and social disadvantage Promote social inclusion Foster personal development and skills enhancement for group members Widen participation in learning by adults from all sectors of our community
