Aling Nena went to work with Aling Maring in therice paddies (payew) o Aling Maring or 2 days romMonday & uesday, Aling Nena then again went to

work with Aling Maring in the rice paddies o thelater or 3 days rom Wednesday to Friday, therebymaking it 5 days.

Te ollowing week, Aling Maring went to work alsowith Aling Nena in the rice paddies (payew) o Al-ing Nena or 3 days (Monday - Wednesday), AlingMaring then went again with Aling Nena to work in

Aling Nenas rice paddies or 2 days (Tursday - Fri-day), thereby making it also 5 days work equivalentto that o Aling Maring.***Ob-obbo System o Dacudac People is a way o helping one another on arm works notrenumerated by money but by equal working days agreed by each party not necessarilywithin the week or month but within the year or arm working cycle.

I or instance, Aling Nena worked or 5 days orAling Maring, and on the other hand, Aling Maringworked or only 4 days or Aling Nena. How many

days does Aling Maring owe to Aling Nena?

We could easily answer the question on the posedproblem, basing on the ob-obbo system. In theillustration above, Aling nena is on the positive

side o the number line while Aling Maring ison the negative side, the number o days o eacharmer was then presented in the illustration.

    In the first illustration,

    We could surmise that, (+2) + (+3) = (+5),counting 2 days (rom 0 to the right +2) rom Mon-

day to uesday and 3 days (rom +2 to the right +5)rom wednesday to riday. Te blue line stops at +5.Also, (-3) + (-2) = (-5), counting 3 days (rom

0 to the lef -3) rom Monday to Wednesday and 2days (rom -3 to the lef -5) rom Tursday to Fri-day. Te blue line stops at (-5).

***From the illustration, going to the right othe number line rom 0, the signs are all positive.Going to the lef o the number line rom 0, thesigns are all negative.

    In the second illustration,

rom +5 to the lef -4

We could also surmise that, rom the point oorigin number 0, we count 5 units to the right or(+5) and then rom (+5) we count 4 units to the lefor (-4), the number in the number line where thecounting stops will be the answer (+1). So, (+5) +

    (-4) = (+1)

    Further, (-3) + (+5) = ?

Starting at 0, we count 3 units to the lef since (-3)is negative, then rom (-3), we counts 5 units to theright since (+5) is positive. Te counting stops at

    (+2). So, (-3) + (+5) = (+2)

    And, (+5) + (-2) = ?

Starting at 0, we count 5 units to the right since(+5) is positive, then rom (+5), we counts 2 unitsto the lef since (-2) is negative. Te counting stops

    at (+3). So, (+5) + (-2) = (+3)

    ADDIION OF INEGERS

RULE:1. I the integers have the same sign, just add the positive

equivalents o the integers and attach the common sign tothe result.

    2. I the integers have different signs, get the difference o thepositive equivalents o the integers and attach the sign o

the larger number to the result.

Roy went to work with the construction o thebawi (small hut) o Shane which they have agreed onob-obbo system including the gathering o materialsneeded or 7 days. In the contrary, Shane went also to

work with the construction o the bawi o Roy or only5 days. How many days more will Shane work to com-plete the agreed ob-obbo?

Let the 7 days o Roy = +7, and the the 5 days oShane (-5) since the word contrary is opposite
