About the ProgrammeThe LLM in International Corporate and Financial

Law programme is designed for people in the field

of law, banking and financial services for their career

development and advancement. It is a professionally

focussed programme designed to provide advanced

knowledge and skills directly relevant to the international

and commercial law sector. Through the delivery of

intellectually stimulating course content underpinned

in many areas by internationally recognised research,

students have the opportunity to critically analyse

key themes of corporate and finance law set against

an international backdrop. The content will challenge

students’ thinking and stimulate academic aspirations.

Teaching and LearningThe module content will equip students with the knowledge required to enable and enhance performance of senior functional or general management roles. With learning focussed in a practical context you will become familiar with current legal themes and the associated risks. In addition, the teaching and learning strategies adopted throughout the programme will enhance key skills such as communication, presentation, debating, research and report writing which will enhance your employability. The assignment clinic session will be offered to students after the block teaching to help students prepare the assessed assignment.

Students will engage in academic debate and practical application of key legal concepts throughout the course and will develop advanced research skills through all modules. Students will be well equipped to pursue further academic and practical legal studies having completed the course.

Student SupportStudents are entitled to access CityU’s Run Run Shaw Library and its Law Section, which consists of over 102,200 volumes of law reports, statues, periodicals and textbooks, computer services and e-learning platform, Blackboard.

Students will also be provided access to the Wolverhampton On-line Learning Framework (WOLF) system, a purpose built computer-based learning environment developed by UoW.

CPD AccreditationThe LLM (ICFL) programme is accredited by the Hong Kong Law Society for CPD points.

Programme Structure The programme is delivered over 2 years with part-time study of 6 modules (120 credits) and a Dissertation (60 credits).

Teaching is delivered in SCOPE Learning Centres by University of Wolverhampton lecturers in a part-time block mode. Each 20-credit module is normally delivered over 10 days in the following format:

On average, intensive block classes will be held every two months.

Students will be assigned with individual Dissertation supervisors based upon their chosen topic of study. The supervisor will provide expert advice to the student through the period of study.

Assessment and AwardStudents are assessed using a variety of techniques designed to evidence students’ understanding and reflection on theory and application of knowledge within a practical internationally-focussed context. Methods of assessment include: written assignment; time constrained assessments; presentations, assessed research workshop exercises and a 60-credit dissertation.

Students will be awarded intermediate qualifications of Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma upon successful completion of 60 credits and 120 credits respectively prior to the final LLM award.

Preparatory Session for Non-Law StudentsFor students whose entry qualification is not in law, in order to provide a basis for legal postgraduate study, there will be a preparatory session offered to them. The session will cover an introduction and overview of English law and legal systems, the law of contract and tort. A study pack will be provided before commencement of the preparatory session.

Our StudentsAccording to our statistics, most of our students hold senior positions in the banking and finance sectors, with a degree in law, business or accounting. Some of them are also pursuing this programme as a second master’s degree.

Admission RequirementsApplicants should hold:

• An appropriate honours degree (e.g. an honours degree in law, finance or accounting); OR

• A professional qualification deemed to be equivalent to an appropriate honours degree; OR

• Qualifications and experience deemed to be equivalent to the above.

Applicants whose degree / qualification was not taught and assessed in English may be required to demonstrate an English proficiency of IELTS score 6.5 or equivalent.

Applicants may be required to attend an admission interview as part of the selection process.
