STAND UP AMERICA – SAY THE PLEDGE Stand Up America just started January 1, 2015, and will run through March 31, 2015! The campaign is a great opportunity to introduce potential members to Exchange through a free 90-day trial membership. You can download a copy of the brochure here. This year, the Stand Up America campaign piece is a little different – it’s a modified version of the newer “What Is Exchange” brochure. This piece will help you start the conversation and give you the opportunity to then explain what your club does for your community. If your prospect is interested in the trial membership, please see that the form is completed and returned to National Headquarters; or, register online at: www.nationalexchangeclub.org.

As a component of this year’s campaign, and to demonstrate Exchange’s commitment to our great country, Exchange Clubs are invited to participate in “Say the Pledge” on President’s Day, Monday, February 16, 2015, at 12 noon, Eastern Time. Please invite your prospects to join members across the country as we stand united and recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Some helpful information regarding SUA follows: SUA is for new members only; former members do not qualify. New club charter members do not qualify for the program. Membership fee and dues will be billed 90 days after join date. New member fee will not apply if member drops within their 90-day trial period. Submitting member online – recruitment option SUA 2015 must be chosen on the “Add Membership”

screen. If not using the SUA card to submit the member, indicate SUA member on the paper submission.

THE NATIONAL EXCHANGE CLUB WEBSITE FACE-LIFT! To provide members the best value for their memberships, National Headquarters is consistently striving to improve the tools it offers. The most recent improvement for members is the refreshed Exchange website. The website has been reworked to help with recruiting and membership development, as well as public relations and marketing efforts.

The freshened-up website has two distinctive views – a public side and a member side. The public side showcases the history and structure of Exchange, the Programs of Service and National Project, and all the great things clubs are doing in their communities, to name a few. National Headquarters is very proud of the updated News and Club Updates sections – highlighting club events and activities – as well as how easily news can be found about Exchange Clubs and Districts.

On the member side, visitors will have access to all the same useful information as before – it just looks a little nicer! The Member Login button will allow you to sign in using your established Username and Password. Once logged in, the Member Resources section will open and the previously available information can be found in the same locations as before.

Please contact the Communications Department with any questions: [email protected].

NATIONAL CANDIDATE FILING DEADLINE Regarding the national candidate filing deadline for positions on the NEC Board of Directors and the NEC Foundation Board of Trustees, Section 2 of Article XIII (Nomination and Election of Officers and Directors), of the National Bylaws, states: “All suggested candidates for the office of National President-Elect, National Treasurer and Regional Vice Presidents must be endorsed by the candidate’s club and by the candidate’s District Board of Directors, which must be forwarded in writing, on the Suggested Candidate for National Office Form provided by The National Exchange Club, to the Executive Vice President not less than one hundred-twenty (120) days prior to the date designated for the annual convention. Members of Excel Clubs and Junior Excel Clubs are not eligible to be candidates for any elected office.” This year, completed forms must be received at headquarters by April 1, 2015, 120 days prior to the Opening Convention Session of the 97th National Convention in Columbus, Ohio. Convention delegates will be electing individuals to fill the position of National President-Elect and National Treasurer; and, delegates in odd-numbered regions will also be electing a Regional Vice President. The April 1 deadline also applies to candidates seeking an at-large position on The NEC Foundation Board of Trustees. At the time of election, no current National Board member, District President, District President-Elect or Past National President is eligible for the at-large position. Also, no candidate for the at-large Foundation positions can be a candidate for another office at the same convention. In 2015, delegates at the National Convention will elect one (1) At-Large Trustee for a three-year term. There may be further nominations from the convention floor. Nominations from the floor must comply with provisions in the NEC Bylaws and the NEC Foundation Code of Regulations, respectively. A candidate must submit his or her intention to run in writing to the Executive Vice President prior to 9:00 p.m. on the first day of the convention. All candidates must be endorsed in writing by at least three Exchangites from three different clubs within the person’s region, other than the candidate’s own club, who are entitled to vote in the convention. Should you or a fellow Exchangite in your district consider running for office, please contact headquarters to request the appropriate candidate form. WINTER PROJECTS FOR EXCHANGE CLUBS As cold blasts its way across most states and snow falling in many, there are endless opportunities for Exchange Clubs to provide assistance in their communities. Even our “warm” states are getting the arctic blast! Remember, there may be need for extra supplies here also! On a day when schools were closed, Indianapolis Public Schools opened to provide free hot lunches to students. What a tremendous service for children! This may prompt ideas for Exchange Clubs as they prioritize projects. Some other projects to consider, include:

13

Providing transportation for seniors to warming centers in neighborhoods

Organizing snow shoveling services where needed

Donating blankets, socks, boots, coats, gloves and hats to local Exchange CAP Centers or

neighborhood resource centers

Donating “indoor” games to families or family centers to keep children busy when it is too cold for

outdoor play

Call your Exchange CAP Center and ask how you can help!

Why is becoming a Berkey Fellow important?

“My primary reason for becoming a Berkey Fellow is to build our Endowment so that the interest on that money will ensure that our Programs of Service and our Child Abuse Prevention Project will be funded in the future. Secondly, Kay and I enjoy attending the Berkey Dinner with our Exchange friends at the National Convention.”

Past NEC and NECF President

Jim Brown

What is the Berkey Fellowship? Named in honor of Charles Berkey, the founder of Exchange, the Berkey Fellowship honors outstanding supporters of the ideals of the National Exchange Club. Individuals or clubs can join this elite group of Berkey Fellows with a contribution of $1,000 or more to the National Exchange Club Foundation during the fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Monthly payments are available.

How is Berkey Fellowship money used? Gifts made to the Berkey Fellowship become part of the Endowment Fund - a permanent bank of funds for the NEC Foundation. The Endowment Fund’s principal is permanently invested, and interest earnings from the fund are used to support the programs of Exchange. The Endowment ensures that Exchange’s programs are sustained well into the future.

How can I become a Berkey Fellow? To make your Berkey Fellowship donation easily, electronically, please visit www.exchangeclubfoundation.org/donations.htm and note “Berkey” in the memo area.
