PERSONAL SUMMARY

I am an art director in Johannesburg,

South Africa. I’m looking for an opportunity

to emigrate to the UK permanently, return to my

English roots (my grandmother is British). I graduated

from the University of Pretoria with a honours degree

in BA IOW (information design) which is a qualification in

design and illustration, mixed with visual communication and

a bit of marketing. I am curious by nature and like to know

a little bit about everything. I am a vibrant and professional

individual with a passion for creative work. I am a disciplined

and determined worker with a thirst to prove myself in the

working environment. I work well in groups and on my

own. I am adaptable and able to work on multiple

projects under stress and always meet deadlines.

PLASCONPolvin Naughts & Crosses Point of Purchase Campaign

A WINNING FORMULAThis campaign revolved around informing consumers of the three

key benefits of Plascon Polvin – good coverage, great scrubability

and the whitest finish. The use of the Naughts and Crosses game

portrays the idea that these 3 benefits are essential for a winning

formula in paint composition. The lids with the product descriptors

on become the positive naughts and competitor brands the

negative crosses, thereby influencing the consumer’s path to

purchase. Campaign elements include various point of sale items

and print ads.

TIGER BRANDSLemon Lite Integrated CampaignProduct Relaunch

NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL SKINAn extensive relaunch to retail and wholesale to promote the

new pack design and promote Lemon Lite as a facial range

focussed on using natural ingredients like lemon to enhance

the beauty from within. The design incorporates a new look and

feel with feminine, fleur de lys patterns and lemons as key design

components. Deliverables include internal activations, mall

promotions, competitions, in-store point of sale and a corporate

identity.

VOLPESYummy MummyMother’s DayCampaign(not actioned yet)

YUMMY MUMMYVolpes Mums ensure quality of life across all aspects in the home including providing the family with scrumptious food. I developed this campaign to generate sales, drive numbers in store and online as well as create and expand the Volpes consumer base. It evolves around telling the Volpes community why mom is special and sharing her delicious recipes that the family simply can’t live without. Anyone can vote for the best recipes and the top 50 moms would win a personalised bathrobe and are put in the Yummy Mummy Recipe Collection. Participating in the campaign gives voters a chance to win prizes like discount vouchers, tea sets, blankets etc. Loyalty members get bigger rewards (like a pair of slippers with the robe).

AVISCOP17 SummitBrand Awareness Activation

AVIS KILLED ITS CARBON FOOTPRINTAvis is a proud carbon neutral company. The aim was to create

awareness of their green status and increase rentals during the

COP17 Summit in Durban. We used a couple of attention grabbing

tactics to achieve these goals in the King Shaka International

Airport: 1. Promoters at the arrivals gates with posters playing on

the identities of the celebrities known to attend the summit. 2.

A crime scene at the kiosk where Avis killed its carbon footprint,

complete with detective and red tape.

Presentation packs specifically designed and compiled to suit the

potential client, including RFP documents with customized covers

and housing devices. The examples shown here are for:

3. Massmart (Builders Warehouse, Builders Depot, Game etc.)

DIRECT MAIL PACK TO POTENTIAL CUSTOMERSNedbank goes through a lot of trouble to reach new clients.

We are tasked to come up with corporate identity aligned but

creative and eye-catching direct mail packs that will entice

these potential clients to choose this bank for personal loan

applications. The concepts cannot be too frivolous and should

speak about the benefits you get from choosing Nedbank as the

partner that helps you fulfill financial needs like education, car

repairs and renovation.

DIRECT MAIL PACK TO EXISTING CUSTOMERSExisting personal loans’ clients with a good credit record are

approached again with the aim of getting them to take out

another loan with Nedbank. These packs’ concepts are built

around the good credit record of the client, the partnership

between the client and Nedbank and taking another step

towards the happier life these clients are building for themselves.

AONCESA

CONSULTING ENGINEERS SOUTH AFRICA PRINT ADSAon South Africa have a current campaign which uses ‘funny

birds’ to communicate different insurance options to customers.

For this engineering publication we had to stick to birds but make

it more technologically savvy and analytic, hence we chose birds

with tailored ‘talents’ that enable them to survive. For example

the Giant Kingfisher. This bird sits on a branch, analysing and

dives down, plucking fish from the water with precision. Like these

customised habits, Aon creates unique or tailored insurance

solutions for the CESA members.

MUGG & BEAN WINTER MENU DESIGN 20102010 winter menu design for the nationwide franchise all families

love. I developed a new look and feel to portray more of the fresh

ingredients and appetizing dishes that distinguishes Mugg & Bean

from other chain restaurants. Warm, eye catching colours mixed

with textures of ingredients for a wholesome but sophisticated

finish. Matching in-store collateral to promote the new design as

well as the new additions to the menu.

PLASCON COLOUR PALETTE COLLATERALEach year Plascon develops a new colour palette that determines

the colours and imagery for the season. In 2011 they introduced

the new slogan ‘Change it. Love it’. Tones included soft pastels,

smokey hues and romantic colour combinations.

CECIL NURSE YOUR OFFICE. DELIVERED.Cecil Nurse Business Furniture pride themselves in delivering the

best possible furniture solutions to their corporate clients. They

are known for customised furniture pieces but would also like to

push the fact that they can deliver their services and furniture

quickly and efficiently from the pre-ordered designer collection

they keep in stock. Hence the Your Office. Delivered. branding

campaign was rolled out into various components including print

ads, catalogues and billboards.

BLACK SILK MY FREEDOM TO RELAX - LITTLE BLACK BOOKA campaign aimed at brand awareness for Tiger Brands ‘

Black Silk product. This design is an on-shelf give-away brochure

located next to or near stock on shelves in retail and wholesale

environments. It is aimed at educating consumers on Black Silk

products and tying the product to an air of the feminine and

fabulous with make-up tips, celebrity gossip, interviews, fashion

reviews, party tips etc.

PÜRE PHARMACY HEART HEALTH POSTERS FOR FEBRUARYThe pharmacy chain has a health theme for each month.

February is heart health month, with a play on the month of love

and Valentine’s day, employees and customers are educated in

proper heart care. Specials on products related to the theme are

run in store, for example, Disprin Cardiocare tablets.

PÜRE PHARMACY PROSPECTUS TO NEW FRANCHISEESAn awareness drive to grow the business. Püre pharmacy converts

existing pharmacies into one of their chain stores. This gatefold

direct mail pack is sent to potential franchisees to tell them a bit

more about Püre pharmacy and the benefits of becoming part of

the group. A detailed brochure including FAQs and a step by step

breakdown of the process involved in transforming their stores.

RICOHCode of Conduct Internal Campaign

ARE YOU A RICOHERO?A campaign aimed at teaching employees of Ricoh South Africa

about the code of conduct without being condescending or

giving them a boring Power Point presentation. Four superheroes

were created based on the main characteristics a Ricoh employee

should portray. This campaign has a built-in incentive aimed at

making these characteristics a habit and creating camaraderie.

You can nominate fellow employees to win Ricohero of the Month.

If you win all four Ricohero awards you stand a chance to win a

grand prize at the end of the year.

Each year has a new theme pulled through advertising for

magazine publications, 3 month calendars, desktop calendars

etc. 2010’s concept revolved around ‘Outstanding’. In 2011 the

company celebrated its 30th birthday with a theme focussed

on long term, personal relationships with clients. Other projects

include generic corporate communication items like folders &

fact sheets.

ANGEL FOODS CORPORATE IDENTITY & BRANDINGA small business owner in Port Elizabeth wanted to revamp her

café to give her business the professional boost it needed to

grow. The logo had to incorporate the existing name and the

Greek heritage of the owner. The café serves home cooked

meals daily, caters and specializes in Greek cuisine. I did a whole

redesign including a new logo, corporate stationery, menus,

signage, window vinyls and a website.

customers. Keeping branding and the corporate identity pure

and simple with a human touch. The ‘u with the umlaut’ found

in their name has been developed into a smiley icon, aimed at

making them the friendly pharmacy where everyone loves to go.

they own. They specialise in the transport and reselling of

energy products like petroleum. We had to develop a new

name, strapline, logo and corporate identity for all the different

companies.

AVISPush the PetalsCampaign

AVIS PUSH THE PETALS CAMPAIGNA digital campaign for Harvey World Travel sales agents that

belong to Club Red (an Avis club where they can earn incentives

for doing bookings of Avis rentals). The agents need to push the

petals (push sales and earn rose points) to stand a chance to win

monthly prizes as well as a grand prize. Campaign deliverables

include animated banner ads to appear on the Harvey World

Travel intranet pages, a competition web site and a range of

mailers.

intranet and is available to all employees in their offices and

factories across South Africa, informing and entertaining them

with the latest events, products, announcements, appointments

CASTLE MILK STOUT UNPLUGGED SOCIAL MEDIA PODAt the Unplugged music events for Castle Milk Stout we had to

brand receptor pods with the campaign look and feel. These

pods serve as a channel to social media, all guests could give

permission for CMS to update Facebook and Twitter statusses

on their behalf. When they scan their wristband on the pod it

automatically updates their social feeds.

AON FUNNY BIRDS EMAILERSAon South Africa have a current campaign which uses ‘funny

birds’ to communicate different insurance options to customers

in an entertaining and memorable manner. These mailers feature

some of the birds with a matching headline, client would then

add their own copy to the body of the mailer and send these to

new and existing clients as a channel for them to contact them

for insurance or revise their cover.

ATNS ORBIT NEWSFLASH FOR YOUR DAILY NEWSATNS (Air Traffic & Navigation Services) is responsible for running

South Africa’s Air Traffic Control Systems and to communicate

effectively to their vast number of employees they use newsletters.

The Orbit Newsflash is the daily electronic newsletter, informing

them about breaking news, birthdays, condolences and

changes in the teams. There is also a weekly, bi-monthly and bi-

annual newsletter that go into more detail about company news,

industry trends, events etc.

TIGER BRANDS PERSONAL CARE CANTEEN PANELSThe Personal Care Department at Tiger Brands wanted to

rebrand their canteen area with graphics related to the products

they work with on a daily basis. The panels were hand drawn

and adapted to frosted vinyls that represent the 5 divisions of the

department: hair, fragrance, face, bath and body, hands & feet.

MARABASTADAn observation

MARABASTAD: AN OBSERVATIONAs part of our curriculum as students we had to keep visual journals

and hand them in for assessment every quarter. For one class

outing we went to Marabastad in the Pretoria CBD to observe

and draw what we encountered. We had to then write a mock

article about the aspect of Marabastad we decided to illustrate.

I chose to depict the diverse range of cultures living in harmony.

AMPLI55fm &Oppikoppi Productions Concert Campaign

AMPLI5 GOOI MIELIES CAMPAIGNAs a final year group project we had to come up with a theme

for the Ampli5 concert held by 5fm and Oppikoppi productions,

where the winning group’s concept was implemented for the

actual event. Our concept – Gooi Mielies – was the runner up

and was used at the Aardklop Festival 2008. Deliverables included

posters, billboards, radio, tv, magazine insert and various other

concert and promotional materials.

TUKSUniversity of Pretoria Centenary Celebration Animation - Student Life

UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA CENTENARY ANIMATIONIn celebration of the university’s 100th birthday the final year students were commissioned to create four minute animations depicting different aspects of the institution, using photographs from the archives and variations of the university colours. Our group did an animation on student life and divided the animation sequences into 2 decades each. I animated the sequence from the 1960’s down to the Second World War. Apart from adapting the colours , we also chose specific typography to enhance the characteristics of the eras.

SUPER SOCCERMOMIf you had an alter-ego, who would that be?

SUPER SOCCERMOM : THE ALTER - EGO EXERCISEThe project was aimed at defining yourself in terms of a corporate identity. We had to come up with an alter-ego that is your complete opposite and create a subsequent corporate identity to depict it. The deliverables were a logo, a set of personalized stationery and a personal survival kit. My alter – ego is a Super Soccermom, that RAH-RAH overbearing mother that always seems to want the spotlight even if the moment is supposed to be about the kid. The survival kit contains rebranded items designed to make the Soccermom survive the trials and tribulations of her daily life. These items are Bird Wipes, Super Sweet Rub, Supermom’s Keep Smiling Jelly and Forever Strong Seam Fixer.

VIVIDUS DAY HOUSE MARKETING COLLATERALI was the Executive Committee member in charge of the Marketing Portfolio for the year 2006 - 2007. I had to work within a budget with sponsors like Standard Bank to design, produce and distribute marketing collateral for the Vividus Day House organisation at Tuks. In conjunction with creating the marketing collateral I also had to organize and run events for open days, fundraisers etc.
