News & Events

MOPs & MOMSnext Group

MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers, and by preschoolers we mean kiddos from birth through

kindergarten. MOMSnext is the next step with school-aged kids. A MOPS & MOMSnext group is an

open, accepting place for all mothers to experience authentic community, personal growth, practi-

cal help, and spiritual hope. Every year MOPS comes up with a concept that will guide the year. This

year, we’re digging deeper into the idea of Finding your Fire.

We meet from 9:30-11:30am on the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of each Month:

October 4 & 18, November 1 & 15, December 6 & 20, January 10 & 24, February 7 & 21, March 7 &

21, April 4 & 18. Consider joining us, and/or inviting your friends and neighbors!

Contact Pastor Shari for more details: [email protected]

Did you know? We are excited to report that the list is full, and twenty people will be representing Living Water Lutheran Church at Feed My Starving Chil-dren on Oct 27. What is FMSC? Feed My Starving Children is a Christian nonprofit dedicated to providing nutritious meals to chil-dren worldwide. FMSC meals are hand-packed by volunteers and sent to an incredible network of partner organizations who distribute them to those in need. How can you help? Even if you are not signed up to volunteer at FMSC on Oct 27, you can still make an incredible difference in the lives of hungry kids. A financial gift can go a long way in the fight against world hunger. Here is the good news: • Each meal costs less than 25 cents. • $80 feeds a child for an entire year. • More than 90 percent of every dollar donated goes directly toward

feeding kids. • More than 99 percent of FMSC meals have safely reached their in-

tended destination. • FMSC consistently receives the highest awards for accountability and transparency from Charity

Navigator. Any amount of financial gift is welcome, and checks can be made out to Living Water Lutheran Church. If you have any questions, please contact Pastor Shari: [email protected]

BRIDGE

Put your Cards on the Table on October 19

A deck of cards is literally a bridge to fellowship for this group. Former, current, and prospective bridge players are invited to a fun evening of party bridge at the home of Richard and Jill Wehr at 7:00 pm on Oct. 19 (Friday). Simply add your name to the sign-up sheet on the kiosk in the Narthex. The Wehrs will email you directions to their home. For more information on this monthly fellow-ship opportunity, please contact Richard or Jill (480-515-4813).

Lutheran Disaster Response is prepared to Respond

Lutheran Disaster Response brings God’s hope, healing and re-newal to people whose lives have been disrupted by disasters in the United States and around the world. Your gifts to Lutheran Disaster Response, designated for Hurricane Response, will be used entirely (100 per-cent) for direct response until it is complete. Together, we can help provide immediate and long-lasting sup-port for those in path of these hurricanes. Today, you’ll find a special offering envelope for Lutheran Disaster Response in the bulletin. You can make your checks payable to LWLC and write “LDR” on the memo line. Or, you can give online through www.elca.org/disaster Or, you can make a gift by credit card directly by calling 1-800-638-3522, Mon-Fri, 8 am to 5 pm CDT.

Studies

Adult Forum September 30 @ 9:45 am

September 30: “Blessed to Be a Blessing: Passing on a Legacy of Faith.”

Presented by: Rev. Richard Andersen

New elders create the ways and means to bless others and the world with their God given

gifts. In this session, we will consider questions such as, What do I have a passion for, what is

it that I bring to the community that I could not do earlier in my life, and who am I now that I

was not when I was younger?

LWLC BOOK DRIVE—ALWAYS ONGOING

Whenever you're finished with a book or magazine (babies through adults) re-

member there are needy families who welcome these small treasures. Please

deposit your donations in the Book Drive basket in the Narthex. If you have

warehoused a great number of books and would like a pick-up, please contact

Sue and Eric Brash email: [email protected], or 602-317-9444.

Piece-Makers Mission Quilting Resumes in October

The ministry of mission quilting for Lutheran World Relief (LWR) resumes in October. Recipients of the quilts we make use their quilts to shield against the cold and rain, and for warm bedding. But their versatility also makes quilts useful as simple tents, floor coverings, or a wrap to hold a baby on a mother’s back.

We'll gather on Wednesday, October 10 and again on Wednes-day, October 24, from 9-noon in the Fellowship Hall to continue tying quilts that have been assembled during the summer. All interested women are welcome to join us. If you quilted with us last year, please come back! If you have never quilted before but think you can tie a simple tie using crochet thread and a needle, we need you!

The coffee is always on and we get to know each other as we pray over and tie quilts. Last year, our group made more than 70 quilts plus 2 for our graduating seniors! God continues to bless the work of our hands!

Questions? please ask Myrna Ulland, Lynda Cales or Cyndy Ophaug. You can also find infor-mation on LWR's quilt ministry at http://lwr.org/get-involved/quilts

Join us for Women’s Bible Study Tuesday Women’s Study @ 10 am

All women are invited to join us at 10 am on Tuesday mornings in the Fellowship

Hall to continue our study of a 10-week video series titled “Having a Mary Heart in

a Martha World – Finding Intimacy with God in the Busyness of Life” written by Jo-

anna Weaver. This study is an invitation for every woman who’s ever felt she isn’t

godly enough, isn’t loving enough, isn’t doing enough. Jesus invites us into the

midst of our life, to choose “the better part,” a joyful life of intimacy with Him that

flows naturally into loving service.

We meet only at 10 am on Tuesday mornings. (No evening study this year.) We will incorporate

the September through November Gather magazine study into our Tuesday rotation, so save your

issues if you subscribe! Gather is the magazine of Women of the ELCA. There are a few compli-

mentary copies in the church entryway. Feel free to take one. Copies of the Gather Bible study will

be provided if you don’t have the magazine. The coffee is always on as well as hot water for tea and

hot chocolate. Bring your Bible, bring a friend and join us. We meet for approximately 90 minutes

each week.

Questions: contact Myrna Ulland at [email protected] or 218-340-6735.
