We Commemorate Our Veterans and Active Service Members

You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, you will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress; my God in whom I trust.” (Psalm 91)

During the week of Veterans Day (Friday, Nov. 11), I invite you to join across this church to pray for service members, veterans, chaplains and their families. Let us pray for an ordered civic life and respect for the dignity and worth of every person. In worship on these days, please remember the impact of family separation and mobility for veterans and those currently serving, many of whom are members of our congregations and communities…

I invite you to pray for the pursuit of peace and for the right use of power in cases where war is a response to aggression. Pray for those who have answered a vocation of military service and for their families. Through prayer, let us encourage our ELCA chaplains as they witness for Jesus Christ and make Christ present in word and sacrament. Prayer is powerful, and knowing this church remembers in prayer those who serve helps sustain their hope in Christ…as together we turn to God as our refuge and strength.

God’s peace, The Rev. Elizabeth A. Eaton Presiding Bishop Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Christmas Gift Tree Every year, as the holiday’s approach, families around the world gather together to celebrate with festive decorations, feasts of all flavors and varieties and often also an exchange of gifts. What’s very easy to forget during these times of feasting and celebrating is the fact that there are so many families in our community that are struggling just to put food on the table for the kids, holiday gifts and elaborate parties just aren’t in the picture for them. They desperatly need the Christmas help that we can provide to make a young child’s Christmas fun and exciting.

We graciously ask that you please pull a tag off the Christmas tree in the entrance that has a gift for a child. These small inexpensive gifts will be distributed though Clarkston Lighthouse, and Samaratias for Children in need. Please bring back a gift by Dec ember 11

th and place around

the tree.

A little bit of Christmas help for low income families who are in tough spot economically, where simple survival takes all of their resources, will be able to feel God’s Love and Grace though your generosity. In behalf of the Children, Thank You and Merry Christmas. Staff contact Carl Bloom

Men’s Retreat

Today more than ever, the world needs Godly men. Men who will step up and courageously lead at home, church, work and in their communities. That’s the message of the men’s ministry at Calvary. This day long retreat will engage you in learning and stretch you as we envision the future possibilities for the men’s ministry here at Calvary. It promises to be a day filled with learning and fellowship. Pastor Ken a trained spiritual director and retreat leader will be teaching “real world” strategies of prayer and discernment that will help you keep Christ in the center of a busy life. Then after lunch we will facilitate an afternoon of “possibility” while we develop a plan for Men’s Ministry for Calvary. This is a one day retreat on January 28

th hosted at St. Augustine House

Monastery starting at 8 a.m. with worship and finishing at 4 p.m. (approx.) Lunch will be provided, costs to be determined (Approx. $20 per person). Register soon with Carl Bloom or Intern Pastor Ken. Online registration on our events page at calvaryinfo.org.
