ocated on one of the most special places
within The Preserve, The Villas at Botany
Bay are arranged at varying levels around
the knoll at the highest point on the property.
On this dramatic reach of land, each of these thirty
homes is very privately situated, lushly landscaped, and
offers 270-degree panoramas of the beautiful slopes
and azure blue waters surrounding the islands, which
dot the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean.
“Living in the treetops” is how architect Bill Poss
describes the lifestyle experience in The Villas.
Each of these 4-bedroom, 4 1/2-bath and
3-bedroom, 4 1/2-bath residences has been designed
to take advantage of the scenery. Truly, these homes
blur the line between sky and sea.
“Our firm has always attempted to develop architecture
that not only responds conscientiously to the land but
also to the lifestyles appropriate to its place,” adds Andy
Wisnowski of Poss Architecture + Planning. “As
the tropical lifestyle is so much about living outdoors
and enjoying the spectacular views of the water, the
planning of The Villas centered on maximizing the
views and providing a fairly transparent and
open continuity between the indoor and
outdoor living spaces.”
Surrounded by stands of palms and
green space laced with interpretive
paths, The Villas are set in an inspiring
landscape at the pinnacle of the property.
Elements of The Villas’ design reflect a
connection to the history of the site, most
specifically the remnant stone ruin walls
of the Sugar Mill. The materials palette
of colors and textures are unimposing so as
to blend in with their surroundings.
The appointments and interior finishes throughout are
those that one would expect in a residence conceived
of and maintained by Timbers Resorts. Thick granite
countertops, marbled baths, fine cabinetry, and for
those that must stay connected, state-of-the-art
wireless Internet, and electronics. There are private
infinity-edge dipping pools that spill from the upper
level to the one below, covered terraces for dining al
fresco or simply taking in the views, spacious kitchens
with custom wood cabinetry and professional grade
appliances, and many more amenities.

A Note from the Developer
Dear Friends of Botany Bay,
It has been a productive few months at The Preserve
at Botany Bay. The new Botany Bay Gallery at Yacht
Haven Grande opened in February, and is simply
stunning. Representative of the quality and finishes
that will be carried throughout our development, the
Gallery at Yacht Haven complements our existing
Gallery on property. It’s the perfect place to stop in
and talk with our Ownership Representatives when
you are on-island and shopping in town.
Our landscape architecture team of George W.
Girvin Associates along with Poss Architecture +
Planning has recently completed conceptual designs
for The Villas at Botany Bay and The Botany Bay
Beach Club, which we are pleased to share with you
on these pages.
Those families fortunate to call Botany Bay home
– whether in a Villa, at their custom residence on
an Estate Lot, or at the Residence Club – will enjoy
a sanctuary that knows few equals, along with a
lifestyle that offers the same. It begins with the
private Beach Club that is steps from the pristine
shore of Botany Bay and just beyond, the waterfront
Spa, archaeological gardens and the historic Sugar
Mill Ruins. All this sets the stage for days spent
snorkeling, for kayak explorations, scuba, sailing or
simply reclining in a hammock as the gentle winds
sway the palms overhead. It’s the perfect place to
preserve your spirit.
Sincerely,
David A. Burden
CEO & Founder, Timbers Resorts
The New Gallery at Yacht Haven Grande
T he spacious new Botany Bay Gallery at Yacht Haven Grande
opened in February, serving as the perfect complement to the
Gallery on property. With interior finishes of mahogany, walls washed in
bright Caribbean colors, sailcloth displays from floor to ceiling, and inspiring
local photography throughout, the Gallery is an inviting setting to discover
our one-of-a-kind West End property as you enjoy the rest of St. Thomas.
Located alongside the scenic Charlotte Amalie Harbor in St. Thomas,
Yacht Haven Grande encompasses a 48-slip mega-yacht marina along with
exciting dining and entertainment options, recreational amenities and seaside
residences. A variety of designer boutiques offer duty-free shopping in a
tropical village setting. The Botany Bay Gallery is located along the waterfront
in Yacht Haven Grande across from Grande Cru.
Meet the Architects Shaping Botany Bay
ver the past few months Poss Architecture + Planning and George W. Girvin Associates, Inc.
have been hard at work designing The Beach Club and The Villas at Botany Bay, as well as
shaping the landscape around them.
Comprehensive
design solutions
are the hallmark of
Poss Architecture
+ Planning. The
structures Bill Poss
and his team of
architects design
are created to fit in
harmoniously with
their surrounding
environment while
simultaneously
respecting and
preserving natural
beauty. This all-encompassing approach is the core reason so many esteemed national and international
clients have entrusted the firm with private residences, commercial buildings and resorts in locations
throughout the united States, Canada, Mexico, Russia and the Caribbean. The highly anticipated Villas at
Botany Bay are being designed with open floor plans and interior/exterior living areas to take advantage of
the grand views and breezes from the trade winds while maintaining privacy at each residence.
A primary goal of George W. Girvin Associates, Inc. is to tailor landscapes while protecting, preserving
and enhancing the beauty and substance of nature as a resource for future generations. At Botany Bay,
George Girvin has designed green spaces and organically shaped outdoor living areas throughout the
resort that set a relaxed tone for the tropical lifestyle. Among his favorite aspects of the property are the
historic Sugar Mill Ruins, which will be integrated into the landscape with interpretive paths designed to
access them.
Together, George Girvin, Bill Poss and their creative firms have designed a beautiful Beach Club with a
magnificent, multi-tiered, infinity-edge pool overlooking the Botany Bay shoreline to the Atlantic Ocean and
the Caribbean beyond. A casual bar and grill will serve poolside favorites with indoor and al fresco seating.
With terraces that spill out to open lawn areas then down to the sea, the Beach Club is certain to be a
natural place for Owners and guests to gather.
O
Designed with Preservation in Mind
At The Preserve at Botany Bay, our guiding principle
is to create a unique, private community that preserves
its tropical setting and enhances the integrity of the
natural landscape. We’ve worked hard to tread lightly
on the land and create an environmentally sound
development plan. From the roads to the residences,
everything has been designed to protect the existing
site so its natural beauty, ambiance and character take
precedent over the built environment.
All structures planned for The Preserve at Botany Bay
are reviewed to ensure they meet our four primary
design objectives:
1. Preserve, protect and enhance the existing landscape, environment and ecology.
2. Draw upon historic Caribbean architecture, while closely integrating structures into their environment.
3. Prepare structures for climactic conditions including rainfall, sun and wind.
4. Maintain and enhance views of the ocean and landscape, while minimizing views to other structures.

Island Artist Lucinda O’Connell ome artists travel great distances to find inspiration for their art. Lucinda O’Connell, who
has lived on all three of the u.S. Virgin Islands, can literally look out her window on St. Thomas
and paint the beauty that abounds. “There are so many subjects I see everyday that I would like to paint;
the woman walking down the hill wearing a straw hat or the colorful rooftops of Charlotte Amalie,” says
Lucinda. “Subject matters in the islands are unlimited.”
In Lucinda’s twenty-year career she has had a wide variety of accomplishments, which include her works
being featured in Islands Magazine, Caribbean Travel & Life and, most recently, on The Today Show. She spent
eight years painting the tranquil property of Caneel Bay Resort as their resident artist and in 2000 became the
first artist-in-residence for Robert Mondavi Winery in Napa Valley, California. During her time in California,
Lucinda drove her convertible through the vineyards, with easel in tow, looking for the perfect setting to paint
en plein air (outdoors).
What she enjoys most is working with clients on commissions.
“I thrive on knowing a commissioned painting will be a personal
treasure that will last a lifetime and beyond,” she says. Lucinda meets
with the client, preferably at the property, to discuss the specifics on
size and medium and takes photos from the vantage point of the
view or of the subject matter they love.
If you would like to see her latest work or speak with her regarding
a commission of your view or property at Botany Bay, Lucinda can
be reached at 340.514.2432 or [email protected]. While shopping
in Charlotte Amalie you can visit her studio on top of Crystal Gade
for a peak over her shoulder at the newest work on her easel or visit
Mango Tango at Yacht Haven Grande to view her originals and
reproductions. www.artbylucinda.com

To ensure that this process is as smooth as possible, a dedicated Timbers Reciprocity Program representative is available to assist all along the way.
We are pleased to be launching this program in the next couple of months.

S
Tastes of St. ThomasA delicious recipe from the popular island establishment Havana Blue
From Havana Blue Serves 4
Havana Ceviche
1 lb. fresh fish (snapper, grouper)2 tsp. salt4 limes, juiced1 jalapeno pepper, deseeded and diced1 red onion, sliced thin1 mango, julienne
1 bunch of cilantro, leaves only1 lime, juiced1 pinch sugar1 cassava (yucca), thinly sliced2 cups vegetable oil
Procure the freshest fish available. Remove any bones and cut the fish into approximately ½-inch cubes.Place the fish in a dish and toss with the salt. Mix in the onions, lime juice and jalapeno. Allow the fish to marinate for one hour. The acid from the lime and addition of sodium from the salt will cure or “cook” the fish.Slice the mango into matchstick-size pieces (julienne) and chop the cilantro.
Toss together with the remaining lime juice to wake it up, and add a pinch of sugar to release the natural juices.Heat oil to medium-high and fry the cassava chips to a golden color. Lightly salt.
Serve mango slaw on top of the ceviche in a martini glass and crispy cassava chips on the side. Buen Provecho!

ituated on the north shore of St. Thomas,
Mahogany Run Golf Course is the island’s
only 18-hole championship golf course.
Designed by George and Tom Fazio, this 6,022-
yard, par-70 course is recognized for its friendly club
atmosphere, scenic setting and natural contours of hills
and valleys. It’s perhaps best known for the spectacular
“Devil’s Triangle,” the signature trio of the 13th, 14th
and 15th holes on the Atlantic Ocean.
The public course is open year-round and offers
breathtaking views of the coastline of St. Thomas.
“Though the course is not very long, it is very
tricky and places an emphasis on hitting to the right
location,” says Botany Bay Ownership Representative
and avid golfer Patrick Jeffas.
The resort offers open
games three times a week as
well as a monthly Scramble
tournament hosted by
local charities and civic
organizations. The Pro
Shop is well stocked with
all the latest golf fashions,
and The Grill Room serves
