• Content Standard: SPI 0307.2.1 Distinguish between living and non-living things.
Living Things• For something to be considered living, it has to show ALL of the
seven characteristics of living things.
• Remember:
Mrs Gren
Movement All living things move in some way.
Respiration (Breathing)
All living things exchange gases with their environment. (Ex. animals breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide)
Sensitiivity All living things have the ability to detect changes in the surrounding environment.
Growth All living things grow.
Reproduction All living things reproduce and pass genetic information to their offspring.
Excretion All living things get rid of waste.
Nutrition All living things take in and use nutrients.
Nonliving Things• Inanimate body or object.
• Something that does not show the characteristics of life.
• Something that lacks the capability for moving, breathing, responding to environment, growing, reproducing, excreting, and receiving nutrients.
• They do not require energy to continue existing.
