LIVING ACCORDING TO HIS GRACE…
GROWING IN CHRIST-LIKENESS
Eph 5:1-14
His Grace — Recognizing God’s Grace!
or
DYS-Grace — Dysfunctional conception of the Grace of God.
HIS GRACE or DYS-GRACE?
Misconceptions about Grace:Isn’t it great that God has lowered the bar! He used to care about loads of stuff. Now it’s just a few things. …
Isn’t it great – it’s not about duty-bound works, it’s all about love. …
Let’s live in “grace” which is the safe middle-ground between moralism and immorality.
God used to be fierce and judgemental now He’s chilled and sweet.
Discipleship used to be important, but now it’s about grace.
It used to be about my works. My works don’t matter anymore. But now it’s about my faith.
Eph 5:1-14
HIS GRACE or DYS-GRACE?
Greek word used for Grace: Kharis

Grace was given in a patronage or benefactor situation.
• Creates an unbreakable bond between you and your patron.
HIS GRACE or DYS-GRACE?

2 Cor 5:14-15
“14 For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. 15 And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.” (NET)
Gal 2:19-21
“19 For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!” (NIV)
Eph 2:10
“10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (NIV)
