MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents, Caregivers, Students and Staff,
Congratulations and thankyou to everyone for a
highly successful Term 1. There have been a
number of new initiatives and programs that
the school has initiated this year and
indicators are that the student learning
programs will be enhanced as a result.
As I indicated to you last year the school has
received an additional $680,000.00 through
the Federal Government’s National Partnership
(NP). This significant amount of money is to be
used to develop programs that will improve
student learning outcomes. After a very
rigorous evaluation of school based data two of
the areas that were most in need are literacy
and community engagement.
This term we have implemented a very detailed
and intensive three year professional learning
program to improve student literacy skills. All
students from Year 1 – 6 have had their
reading fluency and comprehension assessed
individually using a standard process and we
look forward to reporting their progress over
the year.
The school has also tried to engage more
effectively with parents and caregivers. The
NP funding has allowed us to employ a
Community Liaison Officer (CLO), two days per
week. Mrs Naffa (Maysoun) is at school
Monday and Friday and works with ALL
parents. She has organised parent programs
that run almost every Monday with sessions
being held in English and Arabic.
Last week we held our first parent teacher
conferences for 2012 and it was great to see
so many of you throughout the year. The
teachers have said that they really enjoyed
meeting with parents/caregivers and that
spreading the conferences over the week
meant more time could be spent with you.
Please let us know if you found this more
valuable. Thank you for taking the time to work
with us in educating your children.
School holidays begin on Thursday so I ask

Last Day of School
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
It is hard to believe that this is the last newsletter for 2018. It has
been another outstanding year at Liverpool Public School with much
that we can celebrate. This week we hold our annual presentation
days where we recognise the excellence in our school in all areas of
school life. Letters have already been sent home to the parents and
carers of award recipients. For those not receiving an award this
year, reflect on how much you have grown this year in your learning
and as a person – take pride in what you have achieved.
I enjoyed our Thank You Morning Tea for all the volunteers that
support our school. These people are an asset and in a very busy
world, we all appreciate the time and dedication they have given to
support us all.
Like me, I am sure that you were amazed by our school production
“I’ve Got This Feeling”. So much hidden talent in our school –
students and staff! The success of the night was a result of months
of hard work by our students learning their lines and moves. Whilst
the stars of our show were the students, I must acknowledge the
work of staff behind the scenes and thank them for the additional
hours they put in after school and weekends to make sure it was
such a success.
This year we farewell a number of staff who are moving on to other
adventures. There are so many to thank and each one of them has
been an important part of our school. In particular, I would like to
acknowledge Mrs Sklavenidis who joined our school in 1998. I know
there are many who have valued your contributions to our school
and extra-curricular activities.
Thank you as well to Mrs Barnes, Mrs Markovski, Miss Comer, Miss
Padki, Mrs Cornish, Mrs Yalda, Mrs Lehane, Miss Kubacki, Ms Rae,
Mrs Miller, Mrs Paternoster, Miss Pirillo, Mrs Habra, Mrs Ayoubi, Mrs
Nissan, Mrs Kazemi and Miss Buxton. You have all made an impact
on our community and we wish you all the very best.
Congratulations on a great year of learning. Have a relaxing summer
break and Merry Christmas to all who are celebrating at this time of
year.

LIBRARY NEWS
Reminder to Year 6 Students
As a way of encouraging people to borrow books from our wonderful school library the school has made the decision to supply all our NEW students with a library bag. As our year 6 students are leaving this year to embark on their new adventure into High School, we would like to ask if the students could donate their library bag to school. This would enable our school to build up a supply of library bags to give to our new students who may enrol midway through the year, or to give a replacement library bag to students who may have lost their library bag.
KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS 2019 Kindergarten enrolments are now open for 2019. Any child who is turning 5 by 31 July 2019 is eligible to start school next year. Please call in at the office for further information, between the hours of 9:30am – 2:00pm Monday to Friday. Your child needs to be registered to take part in the Transition to School Program. Also if you are a temporary visa holder you need to apply now for Kindergarten enrolment to make sure that the paper work is completed in time. If you have any neighbours with children who are eligible to start school please pass this information on to them. The school needs to know the number of students who are intending to start school so that we can organise classes, timetables and ensure a smooth start to the school year. If you have any questions please ask. We are more than happy to assist.

SCHOOL PRODUCTION – ‘I’VE GOT THIS FEELING’ This term students had the opportunity to participate in the 2018 School Production ‘I’ve got this
Feeling’ based on Disney’s Pixar movie ‘Inside Out’. In Year groups, students have spent two
terms working hard on choreographing a routine that they performed in front of Liverpool Public
School, family and community members.
Our lead actors, Vaivai, Shahana, Robel, Darlene and Luna co-created and gave a stellar
performance of the five emotions (Anger, Joy, Fear, Disgust and Sadness) connecting the story
line through a progression of life of a primary school student. Students made a great contribution,
both on stage and behind the scenes, and played a pivotal role that made the show a success.
Our sound room team consisted of Hussein, Hope and Hashmad, and our ushers Sam, Lakeesha
and Helena.
Thank you to all the teachers, parents, students and community who supported our successful
production for 2018. We look forward to showcasing our talents to you in 2020.

SCHOOL SENIOR CHOIR
Once again the Senior Choir has impressed the public with their stage presence at Liverpool
Citizenship Awards Ceremony. The students enjoyed celebrating Liverpool’s 208th Birthday along
with exploring the Casula Powerhouse and learning a little about our history and community earlier
this term.
We received a personal letter from the Council commending our young performers as the “stars of
the show” and unexpectedly reunited with an ex student from the 1940s.
We are very proud of the commitment and effort these students have put in throughout the year,
well done Senior Choir team!

LIVERPOOL LIGHTNING SKIPPERS On the 23 November 2018, Liverpool Lightning skippers presented an outstanding performance to
support White Ribbon Day in Bigge Park. The students were accompanied by their teachers Mrs
Williams, Mrs Yalda and Ms Maharaj along with the community and some of our parents.
The team supported Liverpool City Council to help raise awareness for violence against
women. Liverpool Lightning Skippers were amazing at drawing in a crowd as they presented their
item in a new and challenging environment.
Well done to all students who were involved.
Thanks Shawin Maharaj & Georgette Yalda

famous people and food items of particular regions in India. They also participated in a dance
workshop learning “Dandiya”. Children were appreciated for their behaviour and participation.
Year 3 students are going to visit Girraween Public School for their Inaugural Community
Language Showcase Concert in December. It will be another great experience for our students to
