of brain. (Genesee, 2000)

Implications on Chinese Learning
Chinese learning involves different brain areas from those in alphabet languages. (Siok, Perfetti, Jin & Tan, 2005)
Chinese reading is strongly related to writing. (Tan & Spinks. 2005).
Implications on Chinese Learning
Chinese learning is the whole-brain learning.
(Scott, 2003)-- the challenge in Chinese learning for
English speakers.
Balanced learning will drive the development of functional neuroanatomy. (Siok, Perfetti, Jin & Tan. 2005)
Examples in my teaching
of differentiating instruction considering multiple intelligences.
(Gardner, 1999)
Summer rain is soft and cool, so I go barefoot in a pool.
But winter rain is cold, and pours, so I must watch it from indoors.
By Myra Cohn Livingston, an American poet, she began to write
poets when she was five years old.

A Spring Morning
I slept without realizing the Spring dawn had come,
Everywhere around me I heard bird song.Oh what a sound of wind and rain last night –How many blossoms had fallen?
SITUATIONS: 诗情
Situation I: Close your eyes and think of yourself as the poet: you are sleeping, and you hear a weak chirping sound, one, two…; the sleep has left you. Opening your eyes, it is nearly the dawn, and the sky is clear of cloud. Seeing the sight, you call to mind two lines of a poem: ________________.
Situation II: Imagine you are standing in front of the window, seeing the falling and fluttering flowers. You love spring. Thinking of beautiful flowers are falling, and spring is slipping by, do you have a tinge of regret? How do you express yourself using two lines of verse:________________.

What we think of as traditional Chinese clothing would be from the Qing Dynasty or Qīng cháo, 清朝 (1644-1912).
The most common and recognizable form of clothing is the qípáo (起跑 ). The original qípáo was wide and loose and covered most of the woman's body. Men were forced to wear the qípáo and a queue in the 17th century.
The modern version is more tailored and was developed in Shanghai (上海 ) in the 1920’s after the fall of the Qing Dynasty (清朝 ).
This was a type of jacket originally worn by aristocracy at the end of the Qing Dynasty. It was known as the Chinese suit and is often seen monogramed with words such as 福 (fu: happiness).
Dr. Sun Yat-sen developed this suit in the early 1900s in an attempt to create a suit, but without conforming to Western style. The Zhongshan suit has 4 outside pockets to adhere to the Chinese concept of balance and symmetry. It was widely accepted by the public and became known as the Mao suit to the West due to his affinity for constantly wearing the suit in public. It wasn’t until the 1990s with increased Western influence that it went out of style.
High fashion in China still incorporates elements of traditional Chinese clothes.
Chinese silk is still a common material
