Vladimir Feltsman Piano sept. 27| Folly Theater | 8pm $35 & $25; $15 for 18 and under

When Feltsman asked for an exit visa to leave the Soviet Union, it was denied and he was banned from performing for seven years. Upon his unexpected release, he was immediately invited to play at the White House. Today, he lives in New York State, where he teaches when he is not touring as a soloist or with his fellow Russian Valéry Gergiev. Now a U.S. citizen, this Russian legend is ours to embrace and enjoy.

This ancient land is now comprised of the modern countries of Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia, Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and the European part of Turkey.

Concertos: Italy vs. Germany

The Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin began in 1982 as a courageous display of musical sovereignty against the East German socialist regime, and now, over thirty years later, they enjoy recognition as one of Europe’s greatest musical success stories. This evening’s program probes the complex relationship between ItalianandGermanBaroqueconcertos.Thesolo concerto was written for the best virtuosos of the time, to show off their extraordinary skills; and in the concerto grosso, the musical material is passed between a small group of soloists and a full orchestra.
